Lets call it bixenon. Its a solenoid makes the bulb act as High and Low by moving up and down.

Yes u r right, u should convert it to full DC else, ur batt will suffer. There are threads to read on. Pls refer that. AC+DC bikes electricals are almost same, so that will benefit u. Goodluck

    • I've been through most of the pages in this thread and searched in other threads too but I still haven't found the information I'm looking for: Can the Yamaha FZ16 handle a 55/60W headlight bulb without any electrical modifications?
I would like to test this myself but frankly, I don't have the time. So if someone else has already tested this and found it to be working fine, I'd like to upgrade the HL bulb to a good 55/60W one.

      Any useful information, anyone?

Edit: My friend would like to know the answer for the same question for his Apache 180. The two of us are planning a long trip with a fair bit of night riding so bright lights are important.

Yes defnitly it wil support a 55/60 as its a full DC bike, provided u should use a relay for the new bulb.

          Thanks for the reply.

My mistake. I missed those posts. I found my answer.

This leads me to ask, why isn't there an associated Wiki to each major section (per bike, per major topic, etc.)? That would be so much easier than reading hundreds of pages of posts!

                        • guys.. I read at lots of locations, that fitting ' Avenger 180’s coil (part no. DV111005)/ cost around 600 ' to P150, we can use a 60W bulb.

has anyone done this in PUNE? require contact to reliable mechanic and approx labour charges. I got a P150/ UG3/ 20K KM done.

                          Thanks in advance.

I was not satisfied with the stock bulb installed on my FZ-S, after i put this question in xbhp most of them recomended to install Night Breaker. I installed "OSRAM Nightbearkers 12v 60/55W H4" for my FZ-S. And it did wonders, Light quality improved tremendously. Both Low and High beam are very powerful compared to stock bulb, Using stock bulb of FZ in highway trips is pretty dangerous at night with opposite vehicle, It almost fully blinds you in double road(mysore-bangalore) cannot imagine how dangerous it is in single road. I am using it from a week and no issues with battery.

I am not sure about ordinary 55/60w bulbs. But i am more than satisfied with Nightbreaker.

And you dont need any electrical modification for FZ. You can directly replace the stock bulb with 55/60w bulb.

Its a easy direct fit mod, even the coil sockets are the same, any mech can do the job, if u have some interest and awareness, then u too. First buy, Avy coil+magneto cover packing. Just open the stator coil cover and swap the coil, close it properly with the new packing, connect the socket, U R READY TO GO. No issues, no other components to be replaced including the RR. U can even run with a 55/60W without risking the reflector melting. Go for 55/60W Osram Night Breaker or Philips Xtreme as the cheap items will produce more heat than light. Still want more light? Go for a spot light of h3 35W its rare, but available, will lightup sametime. If u can put a relay in between the switch and the bulb its well and good for ur stock switch as well the brightness too. Goodluck

can you tell me, what is magneto cover?

                                as per another thread,
"Don't buy the full stator assembly kit (magneto assebly as well as coil) buy only the coil (part no. DV111005).
The only modification required on my bike was the neutral light connection had to be modified. "

                                mine is P150/ UG3 version/ 1 year old.
