Shreeni is right, an HID produces less heat than a normal halo. Startup time it heats up than a halo but once it stabilizes, heat reduces. Dont worry, u cant think of a 130W with the stock assy, or still u badly need of it, keep a bowl below the reflector to collect the reflector in drops
. Dude, I changed 3 times in 6 months just because of a 90/100W halo, but I love its performance with the stock reflector. Top portion (LB, 90W) of the reflector will melt and eventually u switch to HB for better lighting and within no time, that too. As long as u r not going to use a 100W, u r safe, on city rides glass become brittle due to the heat and the city b2b traffic is the main reason as there's no mcuh cooling for the glass. But this happens mostly on cars loaded with low quality halos. Iamvik, is also right about the UV radiations, but mostly all HID bulbs have enough protection sheilds from UV emissions, but beware of cheap halos can mess up the thing badly.

I'm not sure about the quality of the UV filters on cheap HID bulbs from China. The UV radiation from HID bulbs is much higher than from halogen bulbs and the UV filter is more important too. Sticking to Philips or Osram bulbs is best.Originally posted by sajjt View PostShreeni is right, an HID produces less heat than a normal halo. Can you tell me what you mean by "halo"? Is it a physical component of a lamp or are you referring to some characteristic?

@guys many of you keep asking what is the difference between the normal ballast and the slim ballast here is a pic see the difference
The black one is the slim ballast and the silver and black one is a normal ballast.Converting Halogen / HID headlamp setups to FULL LED.

Dude, I was just refering the shortform of Halogen

I agree with u in emission of HID is higher than on halos, but its got a better UV control else, the poly carbonate glass will change colour in no time. No one reported such cases in my knowledge, but there r people says once u use an HID, reflector will fade or melt all just rumours. Even our Suzuki Mech was quite sure about the fading
when he saw HID was installed, pretends to be a dare devil, I've kept and my mech changed his opinion now
. I am using an HID for 1.5 Yrs on my car and no changes so far, and it clears the doubts, for me atleast.
Navnish, here's my promo for u

New Design
Guys check this out.
New HID's designs have come in the market now . Its just one complete unit . The bulb and ballast are attached . So you just need to plug it in and connect it to your stock wiring harness and its done. No tension of mounting the ballast no tension of anything . But these are currently expensive . Once the prices will go down am planing to get a few to test

. Is it same with all the bikes or only Unicorn ??
I got 3 custom clamps made to project the headlight unit 1" ahead so that bulb doesn't touch.. But isn't it very complex just to mount a bulb !!

Definitely good. Technology does seems to progress quiet fast. I'm sure soon we will be discussing about installing LEDs on our bikes.Originally posted by navnish View PostGuys check this out.

But is it possible to change bulbs, separately?Been There, Done That; Better!

LED automotive bulbs are already available but they are yet to prove the performance in lumens. They consume very less power but higher lumen LEDs requires very good heatsinks which makes it complex in size aspect. There are lot of direct fit LED bulbs but mostly suggested for interior lighting, exterior deco and fogs.
H3

And here comes the latest hero on torches and aux lamps SSCP7 LED capable of driving 900 lmn and supposed to be the brightest single LED costing around $15 with heat sink but not a direct snap on to the conventional reflectors.

Here's its beam shots

HID help
Hi guys,
I need a small help. I had previously installed a HID in my RTR180, but removed it last week due to cop menance. Now, I would like to put the light back on, but as an extra accessory - so that I can use it when I go on the occasional all night ride...
Now, my bike is not converted to full DC, and previous configuration used an extra switch for the HID. Now I'm planning on removing the halogen bulb, and retain just the HID (it has both). Now please go through the pics in the below link. My query is, can I use the red and black wire in the last pic to the switch and control the HID with that?????
Looking forward to some help....

Thats enough to light up the HID. But without DC conversion or batt charging boost how long u can ride with an HID? Since its an H4 bulb, u need to fix it to an H4 sealed beam, which is considerably bigger than any compact aux lamps, so it may affect the overall looksl too.Originally posted by lijok View PostHi guys,
