Ok for 180UG3, here is the simple & easy steps you have to follow to use 55/60W bulb.Originally posted by sagarpadaki View Postcan i put a 55W bulb in my 180 UG3 without changing the stator coil?will i get the full 55W illumination? and also will it affect the charging of the battery?also stock UG3 comes with HS1 socket.can a H4 bulb fit into it without modification?
Buy Avenger 180's coil ( which should cost 550 r 600rs ) & Install it along with 55/60w bulb that's it.
& Dude afaik all the pulsar's came with H4 socket ( except P220 which has H7 socket) so please check once again.sigpicAll India Permit 1+1

The HS1 and H4 bases are NOT the same. The only difference is the the spacing between the two tabs on the bottom edge of the bulb base. The H4 has smaller spacing, the HS1 has a wider spacing. This difference in spacing will prevent the bulb from seating properly in the headlamp socket. The solution is to flatten them with pliers (easy) or to break them off (more difficult and risky).Originally posted by Shreeni0403 View PostHS1 and H4 sockets are same. You will get the stators in almost all Bajaj ASC.

Dude I have a Unicorn which has HS1 as stock and H4 will fit directly into it. You need not bend anything. I donno to which bike you had to bend itOriginally posted by iamvik View PostThe HS1 and H4 bases are NOT the same. * HS1 is the term for the PX43T base halogen bulbs. HS1 can be replaced with H4 P43T.
* H4 is the term for P43T base and P45T base (round base, instead of three prongs, old style on it's way out) halogen bulbs.
Karizma, Uni, CBZX, Hunk, Apache RTR, Pulsar (except 220) all these i have seen, come with HS1 (PX43T) bulbs, and can be replaced with P43T H4 automotive bulbs.
HS1 bulb The only difference between the HS1 and an H4 halogen bulb, is that the middle pin at the base is 1-2mm thicker. Hence the notation PX 43t compared to P43t. The middle pin they refer to is not the pin where you plug in the wire. The pin they refer to is the middle leg/tab/prong that locates the bulb in the holder.
PX43T bulbs have a wider center tab motorcycles can use P43T bulbs in place of HS1 (PX43T).
P.S - In my earlier post I mentioned that sockets are same, not the base.Last edited by Shreeni0403; 02-23-2010, 12:06 PM.

You are mistaken. I changed the bulb in my FZ and that too had a HS1 bulb from Philips. A standard H4 (P43 obviously, not P45) would not sit correctly in the holder since the tab in the holder is meant for the wider gap of the PX43t bulb base, thereby preventing full seating.Originally posted by Shreeni0403 View PostDude I have a Unicorn which has HS1 as stock and H4 will fit directly into it. I have with me 3 different bulbs: the original Philips HS1 from my FZ, a Philips H4 and a Jagan H4 (an Indian brand, supplied as replacement bulb by Maruti). The difference is clearly ONLY in the spacing between the tabs that I mentioned and indicated in the image before. The electrical connectors themselves are identical. Feel free to check this for yourself.

I ve mine and my friends running H4 on bikes like Karizma, Uni, CBZX, Hunk, Pulsar without any bending of bulb. Infact even the R15. I wonder how its not sitting in place in FZ !! No idea.Originally posted by iamvik View PostYou are mistaken. I changed the bulb in my FZ and that too had a HS1 bulb from Philips. To check it, gimme sometime (probably next weekend), i will post pics after installing in which I have not bent anything.
I ve used
55/60w - Philips Crystal Vision, Halonix, Osram Nightbreaker
90/100w - Philips Rally Vision
Currently running on HID.
Which are all P43T base H4 bulbs and are direct fit.

It may have been possible to fit the bulb correctly in all the bikes that you mention but for some reason, the FZ headlamp has, what I presume, the correct design for the HS1. I've not seen HS1 headlamps, the bulb holders in particular, from other bikes so I can't comment on them. In my old pulsar, I had fitted a 178 mm autopal headlamp with a P45t 55/60W bulb.Originally posted by Shreeni0403 View PostI ve mine and my friends running H4 on bikes like Karizma, Uni, CBZX, Hunk, Pulsar without any bending of bulb. A H4 P43t bulb does enter the HS1 PX43t socket in the headlamp but the two tabs at the base of the bulb will prevent the circular face of the base from sitting squarely against the corresponding surface on the headlamp. Despite this, the spring clip can be fitted and the bulb does sit firmly, though incorrectly. The filament will therefore be incorrectly positioned inside the headlamp.
On another note, I agree that the P45t bulb is on its way out. It was a transition bulb base from ordinary incandescent R2 bulb to halogen incandescent H4 bulbs. All new cars use the P43t base now.

I too vote for it, there's no notching of tabs for fixing it. H4 and HS1 are fully compatible.Do it Yourself, what so ever, if Possible

I may know why the H4 bulb doesn't fit directly the FZ but does fit other bikes.
The notch formed by the tabs/pins at the base is wider in the HS1/px43t than in the H4/p43t. The tab in the FZ headlamp fits in between the pins on the bulb and is designed to fit the px43t. Since the tab is wider than the corresponding gap in the p43t, that bulb will not fit it directly.
I think that in the headlamps of other bikes, instead of a tab that fits in between the pin of the bulb, there's simply a notch into which the pins seat. Since the gap is designed for the wider px43t, the narrower p43t too will fit in.
Can someone confirm this theory? If this theory is correct and most bike headlamps have the second design, the H4 is compatible with the HS1 but not vice versa.
