Couldn't quite get what you meant by saying that a newbie cant handle the performance of Yamaha?

I mean he is not buying a FZ1/R1.

To summarize, I think unless you are well to do, a yamaha could become a burden for you. If your parent is paying for you, I only hope that he/she is not a govt. employee and not sacrificing anything else for your fun.
Older gens of Yamaha FZ/Fazers had FE problems.. Newer ones with Retuned carb are more efficient and give out better FE figures in the range of 40-48 kmpl based on riding style.

FZ is one of the most rider friendly; easy to use, easy and comfortable rider seating, superb cornering characteristics: in short a good baby street fighter. It is cheap to maintain as the parts costs are not astronomically expensive.. doesn't need any major maintenance besides the regular servicing, chain lubing and periodic maintenance prescribed by manual as is for any other bike. Bullet proof engineering and butter smooth gears.

coming from a 1st hand owner with over 22,000 km log of ownership. Would rate this bike to be easy peesy for a newbie.

      Cheers,

When I was a newbie, too many of my friends had injured themselves trying to understand their vehicle's limits. At that time, we had Rx100/135.

And you're right that this is not a super bike, but you know, our body is so feeble, a simple sudden braking during a fast turn is enough to send us towards the clinic.

True, and can happen with a cycle also.

And my first ride was dad's splendor. I changed my vehicle a few times since then, but dad still uses it, 16 years later.

The thing with Yamaha is that they accelerate pretty fast, but the newbie riders don't calculate the distance needed to decelerate safely and end up under/over/aside the obstructing vehicle.

So, it's actually how rider rides, not with some kind of bikes or brand!!

So he is good to go with FZ anytime, because it's easy to handle then any bike today and it's grip is also nice, which i guess is most important for some new people..TS already have ridden old splendour and now graduating to FZ so i don't see any issues here!!

suggesting a cheaper but better alternative of fz minus the looks=p135
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
                        #overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

Fast acceleration is not a problem that is associated with Yamaha.
                          Doesnt a P220 accelerate faster than a R15?

So according to you, a newbie shouldnt buy a Bajaj bike as well.

IINM these days the bikes that have pretty good acceleration come with both front and rear discs.

Its not about a particular brand. And here OP is not a total newbie.

                            Abi

I am applying filters to narrow down my list below.

I believe you said that you are short and lean, and I am lean too (very). So, meaty motorcycles won't look good for us even if they are designed/faired well.

You said you ride a hunk; can you tell me if you look good on that bike? Check yourself out while riding in a mirror/reflecting surface somewhere next time and let me know. If you do, then 150cc bikes can be included in the list.

I believe that you are looking for good power, so the standard commuter vehicles won't do for you. So the classic splendor, etc., are out of the list. With what knowledge I have, I believe you can test ride a) bajaj discover 125 ST - they just released it and it will help you with your intercity commute, and b) honda cb twister - this will help you with the city traffic; the prime reason I took it as against all others was its small frame and light weight.

You will notice that I am limiting my recommendations to 110 - 125 cc range. I do have some suggestions on 150 cc and above, but I would like to know if you are comfortable riding on those.
