Owning a a piece of biking history -- Honda Cub C90
Thanks kb!!Originally posted by kb100 View Postis it a honda cub......
but it would have been " is it HONDA CUB??? " instead of " cub.....", there is a ahh & aeh!! in it so 50% for my dear k b
Here you go with this pic>>>

Hmm!! ..." in all probabilityOriginally posted by dr.cr View Postyes, a cub in all probability

More confident it is a Cub with a SMILE !!, but there is bit of hesitation SO,
here you go with 75% ( the bike w/o seat

If said " ..ICONIC" & " ..truly a UNIVERSAL MACHINE", if it is Japanese, then there must be no DOUBT!!!Originally posted by frankpilli View PostNo doubt its a Honda cub, now com-on Muthu anna, u should agree
Thank you Frank !1, but all that I can give you a 99%,'coz as on date I have only that much, wish to give 100% Wish to share some thing about Honda CUB, ( mine is a 1976 C90)
( the below words are not mine, but was a inspired by these kind of words by great Bike Gurus , who have done a lot to this Bike loving fraternity )
....." When the original C100 Super Cub was released in 1958 it was a major revelation. Bikes at the time were notoriously unreliable and difficult to ride so they only attracted die-hard bikers, mostly of the greasy Wild One variety we're led to believe.
The C90, with its step-through frame, automatic clutch and four stroke engine (no need to mix two stroke oil and petrol), was so easy to ride that it enticed a whole new generation onto two wheels. And in an age when bikes spent more time in workshops than on the road, the Honda C90 was - and still is - virtually bulletproof.
Honda has sold some 27 million of the little blighters over the last 40-odd years and that's more than any other bike in history. In fact, if Honda - which was a small business when the first Cub was released - hadn't had such success with the C90, it's debatable if the firm would still be around today. Think about that next time you jump on your FireBlade or SP-1 mister. The original bike had a 49cc engine and churned out an awesome 4.5bhp - just enough to get that old skin off the rice pudding as you topped out at 40mph. Today's model runs off an 85cc engine which produces a giddy 7.5bhp and is good for an indicated 65mph (downhill, tucked in, tail wind etc). But who cares when you can get 120 miles to the gallon and don't even have to worry about servicing. Hell, you couldn't break a C90 if you tried. Ask the Purple Helmet display team - they've been trying for years but the little buggers just won't die.
The C90 has, without question, become a transport icon and you'd have to have been living in an extremely remote corner of darkest Africa not to have seen one. Actually, even if you were, you probably saw some cobber on a round-the-world C90 trip. the C90 is truly a universal machine.
Significantly, when Honda rolled its 100 millionth bike off the production line in November 1997, it wasn't a Gold Wing or a CBR600 - it was a C90
Now some pics>>

i think so & may be ours is the only market where a Cub (derived m/c) did not make success, which partly might be due to very late market entry & rest due to foot gear. Hand shift would have given an added appeal as a better easy rider to twist-n-go mopeds/ scoots. With rotary shift grip & rear brake moved to Lh handle it would have gained much interest. 'Street' was a good run about for city limits true to the Cub origins.can this cub be related to a Hero honda Street?

Honda CUB -- INDIA --- Face Value
Plenty of good machines did not make success in India for NO REASON !!Originally posted by dr.cr View Posti think so & may be ours is the only market where a Cub (derived m/c) did not make success, which partly might be due to very late market entry & rest due to foot gear. few among them lot is " HH Street " ,Ford Escort" etc.,.........
No Buddy , I can't agree with your wish of "Hand Twist & shift gear change" system would have made the "HH Streets" a success
Practically for easy city commuting ..NO CLUTCH & ROTARY gear shift pattern at your foot is the best , accepted world wide , what ever may be the, city road condition & how cumbersome may be the traffic .
So there is no question of shifting the things LH to RH or vis-versa
Yes , as you said Honda's , previous version of HH Street, took world by storm , was sold more than 20 million units ( If my memory serves right), before the damn thing was passed on to Hero Honda guys
But poor Honda guys, thought this will be smash hit, at least at the big Cities, with overflowing traffic!!
But, over cautious Indian consumer was not ready to pay 40K + for a Bike without CLUTCH
!!
Luckily , by God's grace HONDA CUB was not passed to HH group, otherwise , THE BIKE WHICH MADE HISTORY GEOGRAPHICALLY for past 5 decades , would have lost its face at least in India ( this is my personal opinion , there is nothing for debate or no offense meant on any individual or group )
PS: Just today a full time biker, claims himself as BIG bike enthusiast for past two decades at least......
* Compared My Cub C90 & a Honda CD 125 twin,...and asked { argued } few points.......which made me faint almost
** There are few guys, as many of us aware.....asking ...Can I buy a BOLERO or a Maruthi ?
Which one you recommend ??...like this....

What i proposed was that Rotary shifter (no clutch) & rear brake if provided at handlebar will free the feet to do whatever wading, kicking, scraping etc one feels to get through on crowded roadsOriginally posted by powertwin.... Indian market saw 'HH Streert' as a step-thru moped with gears or as a motorcycle without clutch. Both configurations don't make as easy to ride as twist-go moped/ scoots. One might think: 'No clutch? good, foot gears? oh! & pedal brake?? hmm.. shall get a proper motorcycle instead! or may be automatic scoot so no worry about controls.
Next i'll ask for foot boards

Need a Final Belt driven noiseless Moped @ My garage!!
Dear Frank,Originally posted by frankpilli;706324........ How do u do all this? whats your strategy? i really suspect you have a[Uhighly developed network of Informers[/U] & Detectives

Just imagine.....just 100+ kms from your home town....just half an hour stayed there.........now The ...India's first Indigenous Moped(??
)...that to a " Belt driven" Moped .......a 1972 model LUNA , was picked to my garage
* Before going into the history, or rather mystery of checking out, wether LUNA was launched at 1972 or 1974 . when Kinetic group..laid their hands on bringing down a Step through Moped " DUCK " LUNA on their own efforts or with some Foreign Collaboration is immaterial for us now !!
Before going into the topic which deserves, a big debate"...India's first Indigenous Moped(??
).
that bold question marks & sarcastic punch,, holds a million dollar value!! Doubt even present " Kinetic Engineering" , management, will be able to answer some of our " DOUBTS".......which we'll look into after...now here are the pics of my 1972 LUNA

Front & rear wheels are 19" against later TFR, double ++, etc had 16" as in our latest TVS mopeds

a pivoted & spring loaded leading arm type front Suspension, against Telescopic suspension for TFR & its successors

Rear left side , came the Free Wheel engage & release set up>>

Steering bars are SPLIT bars, oozes out of the bottom yoke, can be raised & lowered individually, cleverly Meter clock @ the middle!!

Beautiful rear !!

and Horn tucked inside the Head Light, at the bottom side of the H/L, like this>>

Great Front:-

Profile, can see the Belt in housed, inside these quality side covers

Wondering why the name of this moped, turned face among our Biker's fraternity, as Duck LUNA, Camel Luna etc.,....
tried all my trick with a simple point & Shot CAM...to see , wether it looks like a Camel or a Duck>>

You actually traveled to the place to pick it up? then we could have met up. This Luna model, i have faint memories of seeing it on road in the mid 70's. If i remember correctly, the belt runs in the reverse direction and connected to the rear wheel through a small gear box which also houses the Free Wheel engage & release set up.Originally posted by powertwin View PostJust imagine.....just 100+ kms from your home town....just half an hour stayed there.........now The ...India's first Indigenous Moped(??

Who are WE !!!
Really felt guilty, for missing " Southern Raid 3", even though I have explained our Leader ( Srini Kasup) few weeks before, but not revealing the 100% inside story!!
After a hectic Journey from Chennai to Coorg, Coorg to Ernakulam and Ernakulam to Chennai ( via Coimbatore)...8 riders from "Roaring riders club" / Chennai visited my Garage on 2 nd October, incidentally yet another Guy(Mahadevan) , who knew & rode only Bullet all these years , dropped into my garage all the way from Chennai, bit early this morning, to pick my 1972 Jawa, which was restored exclusively for this raid!! ( ask Srini kasup ), want to pass this '72 "Forever Bike" to a guy who is really capable of participating this kind of events in future.....on whole .."A really LIKE MINDED GUY""
.
Another classic bike enthusiast Pratap Henry, for whom I have already restored a James Ml & now fixing some issues on his Norton Dominator Model 7....who was the guy pointed his fingers at me to Mahadevan
, visited my Garage , exclusively to have a look at my new acquisition " BADAL" !! ( Hope , our Two wheeler enthusiasts , never mind me posting a Indigenous machine " BADAL",, a THREE wheeler though!!
)
Now let the pics tell the remaining story>>>>
before that @ Srini kaskp & other who participated in the Southern Raid:-
Wish you guys share your memorable moments @ xbhp, either in a separate thread or here

The one which I got it restored exclusively for this raid...is seen partially in this pic>

Without Naga roadking
>

With Naga & Karthi >>>

The other side of Maha-DEVAN!!>>

Out spoken !! means no blah!! blah!!....he means what he does...
Mahadevan>
Should I say Jawa Maha or Royal Maha??

sorry nothing more than a Cup of Tea for these Roaring riders...

>>.>.....

Pratap, trying his hand on my BADAL!!
...see Maha starring @ Pratap's Domi......wish this man , would own a classic twin...soon..very soon
PS: Have to share about this Badal & me acquiring it...but not now, some time next week after RE 700 twin story, which is yet to be completed as on date
Few more new comers to my garage for this year's Aayutha Pooja ( a festival for Machines,...which we love love them!!)....stick along till pooja holidays( hmm!! till next week
)
At last Mr. Royal MAHADEVAN, has picked this " forever bike" from me...
....Jawa Maha!! Jawa Maha!! ...hm!! sounds sweet, keep collecting...ride safe buddy

She is now ready to scorch the Tambaram ( Chennai) streets by Maha!!>

Now say........WHO ARE WE????
