It is high time that we take responsibility of our own safety. Inner Lanes (as you call it) or the fast lanes (as I would like to call it) are MEANT for vehicles who travel at a much higher speed. So, if some1 wants to enter any of the fast lanes, it is their responsibility to check/calculate and then decide when to actually 'enter' these lanes. There is no way that the truck might have appeared out of the blue on the road. The rider MUST have definitely misjudged the speed and distance or else he must have been too busy to bother (like 99% of the people on the roads). Look at the innumerous people who travel on opposite side of the highway to save a kilometer or probably a couple of kilometers for a "U" turn. Why dont these people fear that some1 might just come and bang them head on! It is utterly frustrating to see these people. If we want to move towards ... (I mean 'towards') developed country standards of roads and traffic, we have to accept such (driving down a couple of kms for a U turn on highways) facts.Originally posted by Revverend View PostI take the old mumbai pune highway road to commute to office and back daily. Saw a freak accident today and i am totally shaken down right now.
Ride Safe Guys and remember safety is not only for you when you are with a pillion.

I dont understand when we shall even remotely move close to developed country standards of safety, discipline and respecting road/lane and traffic rules.
I am finding this medium of venting out my frustration due to a couple of incidents that have happened with me in the past couple of days.
1. A foolish tempo guy banged my car from behind, at a good enough speed because he forgot to notice my car waiting for a turn, a good enough 50 mtrs ahead of him. The damage was bad enough to not take my car home. In the garage now.
2. Following day, I was supposedly 'overtaking' an elderly gentleman (F U) from the left at a speed of 32kph (thats like super slow) on baner road, since he was riding at abt 25-30kph in the first lane. I was riding on his left when the road turned towards right. This mr. FU did not bother to turn right, and hit my bike from the rear. He was so irritated by this 'act' of mine (overtaking from left and gradually turning right alongwith the road marking) that he started yelling at me. I obliged him with riding in front of him at speeds slower than 25kph and making him do the same.
3. My cousin was returning from Bombay (e-way) in a tavera late night when his driver supposedly dozed off. He is now in ICU (out of danger but with multiple fractures) with the driver having 'walked' his way home.
So, I believe lets help, but in no way pity or sympathize with people who end up in accidents thanks to their own fault/carelessness. If I had my way, I would beat the guy further and then take him to the hospital.
A big middle finger to all those who ride slow in the 1st lane. Its time that we accept that some roads WILL have very fast moving vehicles and we need to be extra cautious on such stretches.Originally posted by vkavadia View PostTwo good points you made there.
About the RVMs and about riding safely for the pillion if not for yourself...
I'm sure most of us here ride with RVMs. I would feel very uncomfortable riding without RVMs.
Going at 100 in the leftmost lane is a strict no no but sometimes you can't help it when a maruti 800 doing 40 is in the fast lane..
Well like they say.. common sense is n't really common and in the case of indian traffic, its really non-existent.. taking U turns without checking the traffic behind and turning without indicators and the list is endless!
I guess we as responsible riders should either just shut up and stop complaining about the traffic and ride with eyes wide open or every once in a while try explaining a little common sense to other riders/drivers..
That is all.
Ask them to go and study Hindi. They not understanding the local language is very much acceptable, but why did they never bother to understand and speak hindi all these years until they landed up with a job?Originally posted by pratheekkunder View PostHi Guys,
Posting this message out of urgency.
Few friends of mine has been transferred from Bangalore to Pune this week and they are going to reach Pune on 4th June, ie on Saturday noon. Now the problem they have no idea about the city, all of them are girls, so thats a main problem! They are looking out for a decent place currently.Their office is located in Hinjewadi IT Park. So places like wakad, baner would be good! Plus language is also a main barrier for them, as they hardly speak Hindi and Marathi. If not a proper house, a temporary house would for about a week or 2 would be good as they dont know anyone there.
Kindly help me with this! Its just 2 days remaining before they land in this city!
Thanks a lot!Last edited by Controlled Madness; 06-02-2011, 11:34 AM.

Unfortunate...
I'm riding in Pune for a while, I really could not understand what fancies people to drive motorcycle or car without rear view / side mirrors. I faced so many issues earlier since I could not match up with this riding style..many times a person riding in front used to change lane, without signal, without checking if someone is coming from behind, without gazing over his shoulders to check if someone is in the blind spot...sometimes involved in road rage too...that is why my signature used to say 'Riding Hard Way..The Pune way'...but now eventually got used to it. Usually I speed up during exit or entry only if I want overtake any oncoming vehicle and only if I'm absolutely sure abt it.Originally posted by Revverend View PostNone of them look into their rear view mirrors while entering or exiting and vehicles inside have absolutely zero lane discipline. Even the guys on the left most inner lane take up speeds of 80-90 quite close to the entry and exit points.
Godspeed
Revverend
I feel sorry for both & hope the girl will be fine & the boy has learned a valuable lesson & will put up rear view mirrors now...Last edited by abhijitkn; 06-02-2011, 12:24 PM.

But I have to agree with you on all the points here.
Today morning itself, while I was going to office, on one of the long left hander a couple decided to just stop in the middle of the road
I just noticed that female getting down from the bike and slammed my rear break. My bike skid for some distance after which I released the brake just to manage myself from falling. Honked hard when I passed those idiots..
Similarly, I hate those rickshaw drivers who drive on the right most lane at their own pace. And sometimes 2-3 of them are trying to overtake each other blocking the entire road especially on an uphill slope. You just have to wait behind them to get their circus over and move ahead.

Its called the 2 minute plan!! They plan to go ahead of the front/side vehicle over the span of 2 mins.Originally posted by Alibaba View PostFull danda leke nikla hai tu (You have taken the baton in your hand now)

You should also see the 10 minute plans on the E-way post 9pm. These are typically laid down by truckers coming in the 1st lane, who wish to overtake another truck, which is typically in the 2nd lane.
Typical speeds of truckers in the ghats doing these antics:
3rd Lane: 10kph
2nd lane: 25kph (fast)
1st Lane: 30kph (superfast)
All slow vehicles like cars and volvos are expected to follow/takeup the service lane.

Worst part is people honking at you from behind.Originally posted by Alibaba View Post

Just today while returning home from college.
I was on a 2 lane flyover where one bus was overtaking another bus at roughly the same speeds.
I was behind them and there was nothing i could do but wait till a bus finishes his move. So im driving slow behind him.
The this guy on a passion Keeps honking like crazy.
Im so irritated by this but dont pay much heed.
This guy then squeases through the small narrow gap between the two busses and goes ahead.
After the bus crossed, i overtook it and continued onward.
Then at the next signal i stop, this same guy right next to me taps me and says, "Fast bike leke, Aisa racing ka saman pehen ke admi fast nahi banta, Gaadi theek se chalana seekho."
Translated-"Buying a fast bike and wearing all this racing stuff (gear) doesnt make you fast. Leaen how to drive properly."
Hearing this i was left totally shocked and didnt know what to reply.
So i just nodded my head, closed my visor and drove off.
Any advise for such people??MY RACING CAR BUILD

I get plenty of such idiots while travelling from Balewadi to Baner or in city so all i do is keep my music on so let them bark as much they want, as i know if he does some stupidity which results in our both crash than i have 1% higher chance of survival than him any day and again on plain road i will be seeing him in my RVM.Originally posted by vikram kumar View PostWorst part is people honking at you from behind.

@Vishwas uncle (aka from now on 'Ninja Chacha') Thank you for the engine oil
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
