    @ param0504 :

route posted by shahbaz63 : recommended for max speed / less time as most of the road is part 2-way golden-quad expressway. once u get off the express highway towards waiee [about 35 kms before satara] u will have about 13+ kms of twisties before u land up in panchghani, from this route.

route posted by padfootmoony2006 : recommended for the sheer joy & thrill of ride, since its part of the mumbai goa highway.

before u take the left turn from poladpur towards mahabaleshwar, dont forget to indulge in steaming hot kanda bhajjiyas & missal-pav @ hotel shilpa [name might've changed now] located @ the exact right hand side of the junction u gonna take left from ;-)

once u take the left, its 45+ kms of stunning twisties right up to mahabaleshwar - watchout for errant & notorious state transport bus drivers here - loads of blind curves on this road - has always been my favorite.

in old days a sub-section of this ghat was referred to as radtondi cha ghaat [rad = crying w/ tearful eyes & tond = mouth... years ago, state transport buses & truckers used to sh|te their pants off driving up on the inclines of this section ;-)]

if that doesnt incite u enuff, dunno what will ;-)

    ride safe mayte!

Shahbaz and myself did a ride together this month..to mahabaleshwar....we went via NH4...bombay pune highway....and came via NH17..
If you are going via NH4.....just watch out for a right turn after the Talegaon phata toll......which goes towards lavassa (Mumbai Pune bypass, that goes via Balewadi)......once u take the right.....keep riding along the road....for about 100kms to find a bridge under construction.....u will find a diversion there saying not to take the bridge....just below the bridge take the right to head straight towards wai...panchgani and mahabaleshwar...!!!! Cheerss.....!!!
thanks whymail ... thinking of ride to mahabaleswar in last week of april...

          That's way cool.
Mahabaleshwar has always been a fav for bikers.
Don't miss out on the 'bird watching' - every Saturday & Sunday evenings @ venna lake & the main market area... it's just as invigorating as riding the bike itself
          Cheers!

This road is not in best of conditions. Many bone jarring stretches are there.

EGAD! the poladpur > mahabaleshwar is that bad now is it?

shucks, was planning a sortie on this route myself this weekend.

guess will drop the plan for later.

              thanks for the heads-up tho!

Yes.I was in a scorpio and still roads managed to get inside. Best is to go from pune side and return back by same route.Bit longer, but saves lot of time.

jeez man... u felt the road inside a scorpio?
riding to mahabaleshwar from mumbai > pune > waiee route is like riding from thane to dadar - a monotonous & boring ride except the last 13 kms of ghats till panchghani.
thanks again for the heads up tho!
on the weekend, i will keep sucking suds back home instead then!

                              duly noted.
                              and u mentioned 120?
perhaps u were mentioning the CC of the avenger engine & not its speed!
even if i touch 70kph the vibrations get so unruly that i fear she wud unsaddle me!
my top speed during my daily commute is suppaawsome 50kph!
but not to worry... i will hold on to my own enroute.
i love konkan & its roads.

oh yes, mere dil ki baat........... Lote Parshuram, its been 2-3 years i had been there............ I used to go there almost every year...... Sometimes on bike or sometimes in cage..... I particularly love that spot before the entrance of lote parshuram where you can have amazing view of a few beautiful villages in the valley and konkan railway......

and to add to your list Hedvi, anjarle, Keshavraj, the ferry near dabhol and Kadyavarcha Ganpati................ phew.. the list will go on and on............. I love Konkan........

edit:- Anyone knows the road & traffic condition in Kumbharli Ghat ?? Its been on my list for a while now.... and since we are going that way (till chiplun) i am thinking of coming back from Karad (NH4). Though depends on what time we start our journey back and of course on any update on road condition.....
