Not sure if they were racing down or was it the old man who was jaywalking.
It was around 6 30 AM
The accident happened around 6.15 am. We passed the spot at 6.45. The guys were not "drag racing" as was published but the guy who crashed is a fast rider - so can't comment. The group he was riding with reported that he and another guy clipped away from the main group after the toll at Uthandi and when they reached the spot they found both riders down.
In all probability it was a combination of both jay-walking and speeding which led to the tragedy. I say jay-walking is a strong possibility as I witness it every day.
I ride on the ECR simply because it's the best road in Chennai to ride in the early mornings - but good tarmac, fast bikes and empty roads are a potent mix and if one is not careful, tragedy is just waiting around the corner.
By the way, The TOI report is nonsense - the others did not flee the scene - in fact they stopped at the risk of their own life and limbs to get the ambulance for the downed riders and wait for the cops. I know this because I saw them waiting at the side of the road.

The article on TOI was pretty stupid. There are numerous accidents due to so many negligent mistakes by everyone on the road, but this incident takes so much light because it was a SBK involved..! So every now and then, when a life is lost...its just another column...but when a SBK involved accident occurs...police go around saying that they have "planned" on getting surveillance cams fixed along the route. Where was their tiny brain when there was so many lives lost from 100cc bikes...?? Even 100cc bikes are capable to reach near to 100kmph and run over any jaywalker...!
Mistakes do happen...lives have been lost...but its pathetic to see BIKERS as a whole being blamed here...atleast by these so called media news mongers..!

Rajnikanth is still right; every time an accident occurs, the mistake is on bigger vehicle; here SBK is bigger than (jay)walking

A group of 5 or more bikers joining together and calling themselves as speed demons and doing DRAG & CIRCUIT in city traffic is a stupid thing and such idiots should be caught and penalised severely.,
It happens every weekend in Besant nagar.,Marina ,ECR etc. ,
Biking is to enjoy ourselves and not to disturb other commmuters.,Last edited by gmagesh14; 12-12-2011, 09:44 PM.

You cant educate/teach a old-man the risk of jaywalking, with such a poor vision and sense how do you expect him to act quick or even wise on that matter, we all know who lives on the roads near mayajaal.
As a fast rider I am responsible to mind my speeds based on where I ride. An incident like this can be avoided if atleast one of the victim acts smart..
My point is cops has to take measures to control speeds near residential, what's the point holding a speed-gun hiding under a tree in a empty no-man stretches. let the motorist enjoy the speed where he can. Take measures to slow down a speedster when he doesnt controls himself.
I never advocate on safe driving, but in this case its a poor old man and a loss of life which bothers me._________________________________________________

This is what I thought too, offlate, I think there's a huge difference!!!Originally posted by Ri$hiThere is no difference between the jaywalkers and animals
- Animals are scared of their life & cross the roads more quickly
- Animals don't wave hand to a speeding vehicle to cross the road
- Animals know the consequence of what is run over by a vehicle
- They say...animals have only 5 senses, that provokes me a question within...does that even apply to such idiots?Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Yes - It could be a mix of Rider's fault and the under reacting jay walker. May be of age (or usual way of jay walking) - The old man might have not reacted well - It has happened to me as well (On the NH45) - It may not be totally avoided - But we must try to *restrict* ourselves to do controllable speeeds - It may be 120 kmph for me - and for others it may be 150 kmph - Ability to react sharp and stop on time matters and i hope we all learn a thing or two when it comes to how general public see us even when we tour on road - I'm not advocating do 60 kmph on the ECR - Do 120 kmph *where possible* and restrict to slower saner speeds around the corners (Similar to the one where the last accident happened)Photo Gallery[/B]

Hi.. I'm Jason from Mumbai. I will be riding from Banglore to Valankanni (Tamil Nadu) next week and I need to know which i the best route I could take. I have no idea about the road conditions in the south and am solely depending on the default route as per Google maps. I need your guidance in finding the best route. You start the game with a full pot o' luck and an empty pot o' experience... The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck.
