Re: Duke 390: Long Term Ride Review
This is a fantastic image. I have the first page of this thread open on my laptop at all times. I occasionally open up that tab and scroll through some of those amazing pictures. My teammates have gone absolutely bonkers with this behavior considering I show them the same photos everyday and talk about a bike that will come sometime in the future.

Re: Duke 390: Long Term Ride Review
Test rode the Duke today. But, not on a free road, but on a side lane where I could go to second gear max with speed up 50-60kmph.
In terms of power delivery characteristic, the bike feels similar to my R15. The way the power is delivered is very non intimidating. The low end is poor and the bike wakes up post 4k rpm with the typical R15 like thrust coming in at above 6k rpm. Of course, other than that, this bike does not share anything with the R15. The actual amount of thrust is much more than any other bikes I have ridden like the R15, P220 or the D200. This bike has so much power that afterwards, my R15 fell very sluggish and slow even post 7k rpm. The exhaust sounds rorty and is par for the course.
So, in conclusion, this bike seems to have the power the spec sheet suggests, but the power delivery is in a very friendly way - No fear of any wheelies or rear wheel skids.
The brakes have the bite but sadly the feel was not anything better compared to the R15. I was expecting more from the steel braided lines.
And regarding the starter, the starter has a mind of its own. Some times, the bike started in a jiffy and at other times, it needed an extended press (around 5 secs). (I stalled the bike twice.) Nothing deal breaking, have to live with it I guess.
And delivery should start by August end.Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

Re: Duke 390: Long Term Ride Review
Just got back from an orgasmic test ride at KTM Marathalli. My timing was great and there was no queue. Gave my DL, put a couple of signatures and the showroom guy gave me the keys. Said I could use only the ISRO road an not the Outer Ring Road, and that the fuel was low. Disappointing, but on the bright side, there was no pillion.
The seating position wasn't much different from the FZ. Had no trouble finding the gears and brakes. There was no heat at all. Maybe it wasn't ridden for a good 10 minutes.
It took forever to start the bike. Had to hold on ignition switch with a slight throttle to a point where you think the battery is gonna die before it roared into life. (Not exactly a roar)
The clutch was a bit weird (for me). Stalled twice before I could move an inch.
Reached 70 odd kmph in less than 100 metres.
There was definite knocking at a speed breaker on the third gear. The second gear is good enough for the speed breakers.
~150 metres and I could feel the heat on my thighs.
Post the speed breaker, accelerated hard, until the next speed breaker. Reached 80 something at the end of second gear, just touched 3 digits in the third and I had to slow down. The throttle response was great, and power and torque in the second gear was mind blowing. Had the FZ like pull till 5k rpm and the R15 like mad rush post that, but In multiples of them. I felt like I was gonna be thrown out as I started accelerating from the second. Was getting used to that and the bike reached 5k rpm and I felt I'm gonna fly. What can I say, definitely a roller coaster ride.
Went down to the end of the road and took a U turn. The second gear couldn't do it without a semi clutch. Will need the first gear for anything below 10. The turning radius was pretty good. The engine heat was still bearable.
Came back to the showroom via the same route. Went into the sixth gear for name sake and it was able to pull from 60 without any knocking.
Braked hard at one speed breaker to test the ABS, but it wasn't hard enough for the ABS to get activated. The brakes didn't feel much different from that of the R15. (Without the ABS that is)
The horn is a joke.
Engine note is funny, but not a deal breaker like that of the D200 (strictly personal opinion)
Wish it had an analog tacho.
The engine heat when I reached back at the showroom was unbearable. Wanted to go through the options on the console and I just couldn't do it when sitting on the bike. Had to get off it.
The mileage shown was 24 odd. Had forgot to reset it before I began my TR. My guess is 24kmpl in pure ripping mode would translate to ~35 in normal conditions, which is outstanding.
The tyres were okay. It was dry road and there were no big curves in my TR. So no clue as to if it sticks on the road like superglue. Felt same as the FZ.
The showroom guy said the TR bike was the Pre launch one and all the hearing issues are resolved in the delivery ready vehicles and would improve further after the first service. Personally, I wouldn't take one from the first lot.
The only reason I can think of why the D200 owners aren't impressed is that the tall gears probably makes it feel like you are riding an automatic/gearless in terms of speed. But then, the time taken to reach the end of the gear isn't much different.
Definitely a proper and worthy upgrade from all sub 250cc bikes in India.
2.14L OTR, or 2.31L for the 1 year EMI option from Bajaj.
Still quoting a waiting period of 3 months.
need to find a way to stop near and dear ones' nagging to get a cage on wheels for that price.

Buddy, I posted the link to that comparison. No where is it written there that the duke makes 46hp at the crank.Originally posted by mohitahuja View PostIt's from the above review where they did dyno tests. Use Google translate and go through it

May be I missed it because of the terrible work Google translate did. I'll check it once again. If this is true then what better can we ask for.

Re: Duke 390: Long Term Ride Review
Test rode both D390 and D200 today in Hinjewadi. The test ride location chosen by the dealer wasn't really great. The roads around Infy, TCS has quite a few speed-breakers.
First rode the D390 and the dealer's guy sat on pillion, and he hardly allowed me to ride 1 km. After reaching back I complained that I wasn't satisfied with the ride. Then he asked me to go alone and take a bigger ride, which I did. Then I rode the D200 and took an even bigger ride.
I can now understand Chinmayakar's feedback about low end pull of D390 vs D200. I rode D200 for the first time. Back to back riding both the bikes, I can say that D200 has got a good initial pick-up rush, which is not quite there in D390. The first time on D390 I was quite cautious & careful. 2nd time pushed the bike a little bit more, but not much due to the speed-breakers. Frankly, the experience was bit underwhelming as far as the acceleration is concerned, but that should be because I didn't get the road to go beyond 6000 rpm. The handling & braking is of course good, though couldn't test much due to the limited test ride. No heating issues. Stalled the bike once or twice, but its not a problem with the bike, rather a case of the rider getting used to the bike. Ergonomics is very comfortable.
After riding D390 twice, became familiar with these bikes, so developed more confidence to push D200 even more in the third ride. Had quite a bit of fun. I loved the way these bikes build their revs; its a refreshing change from my ZMR. I now think I will be satisfied with owning the D200 too, but the D390 package and price point is too good to ignore.
Damn, I now want a 10 km test ride on a good stretch of road on both these bikes, so that I can experience what the other guys have written! But I'll have to show some patience and wait for my D390.

Re: Duke 390: Long Term Ride Review
Surencameo are you mentioning about the tail tidy for 7000rs. Is it really available with Indian dealers? Please can you confirm this please.Originally posted by surencameo View PostSeems like a storm after all the silence and boredom, people started to receive the delivery??? Good news.
@MG: The KTM India website says "390 Duke now in India" and also mentions "Clutch - Wet multi-disc clutch / hydraulically operated." Is it cable operated or hydraulically operated? Kindly help explain if possible.
Next is my plan of designing the number plate for the 390 while it reaches me. I am for sure going to remove the saree guard, rear tyre hugger, and the knuckle guards while I take the delivery. Inquired the dealer and he quotes 7000 INR for the one in Austrian release pictures, I do not think it is a tail tidy. The regular embossed "IND" plates are all over and no more a premium. Can anyone suggest something different and unique? Thanks for your help in advance.

Hey I also went to the same place at around 2:30 PM....there was no 390 inside the showroom and nothing outside. Where exactly do they hide the test ride bike?Originally posted by eliksir View PostJust got back from an orgasmic test ride at KTM Marathalli. My timing was great and there was no queue.
