I guess the legs coming down till my chest is not visible properly in the video. Yes while extension the knees are going all straight, which as per my trainer should go away in few times.

What's the practical use of 320 kg leg press? Unless you're a professional body-building athlete.

Is it true that of all the physically competitive sports bodybuilders are the only athletes who're the weakest on the day of competition?
As I have written earlier too, I am NOT going for lean physique so dehydration is a no-no for me. I have cut off salt intake so that it helps the body to get the muscles in shape and sustaining the size at the same time.
Now coming to weights, there is no hard and fast rule that more weights are only for competition looks. Its for "Myself".

Bodybuilders on main day, rather few days befire that stop taking water so that body doesnt loose water. Imo, they get weak by the constant poses they do, those poses are tough and takes a toll on the body as flexing every single muscle in the body is not an easy task.

all the gym activity seem somewhat strenuous :P anyone prescribe or practice yoga and get a fit body? (:

How do you guys keep your motivation going? There were 2 failed gym attempts before in my life :P One, because I had to travel long to gym which made me discontinue after 3 months. second, because I had to suffer from diarrhea and weight loss. Utterly lost motivation after that.

When i was in college, motivating myself was no big deal..

However, after i started working it used to get increasingly difficult to hit the gym 6 times a week. There are many factors that one has to consider to keep himself/herself motivated.

        Eg:
        • Crowd
        • how close is it from your place
        • if you have a workout partner
        • if you have paid for a personal trainer
        • If you are on supplements

The fact that i a consume around 75gms of protein through supplements keeps me driven.. Supplements don't come cheap so the thought of muscle-loss scares me off because of the amount that i have pumped in over the years in terms of money and time.

Its difficult to keep yourself motivated until you start seeing the results

Motivation for me was a breakup of 9year long relationship. That too she got engaged on my birthday. But thats a different story.
Yes, my main reason was only to channelise my anger in correct direction, I was actually going the wrong way until I entered the gymming life.

Second reason was childhood bullying of me being fat. I just wanted the same people to say "You are not the same".

These two have acted as a catalyst in my life. And rest is history, I am all bulk, good size, aiming for good shape now, and most of all, my strength is at all time high.

Motivation is a big factor for anything you want to let alone gym - thats for work and personal life too. For some reasons we find motivation quickly and for some we dont - at end of the day how much you want it for you matters.

i have been working out for about my age 18 and my main motivation during college days is to look like a fitness cover model. Was way skinny so putting on some mass was my priority - had some good souls who were into bodybuilding for guidance which was a boon. those initial years of training was set as strong base. after started to work was keeping it good at fitness but later as i continued onto work it was on and off. was very off for 3 years in between and started back on where i left wanted to get my dream physique from 2012 been training and learning more on the game.

Being self-motivated is tough and went through loads of motivational videos and others transformations success, but untill unles you want to do it you are not moving anywhere. So as set in my mind after reached a decent physique in 2014; but something was missing - that is what i can do with my body - so moved towards the direction of functional training - set some small goals and conquered them one by one - others started to notice the changes and some appreciations adds bonus points to strive more.

like this quote '1 hours is 4% of you day' - you can easily manage it. Personally i get this 1 hour done in morning mainly for these reasons:
            1. Mornings you are fresh and dont have any stress
            2. before you think of any other work you can hit the gym first and finish it and plan your day
            3. Less crowd in gym - you have most of the gym space for yourself :-)
            4. Evening can be used for your personal time with family and fun and other chores
            5. Mornings you are not stressed with any office tension.

currently my motivation is " Started for Looks but now more focused on what i can do with it " and craving each part of your physique is being the maker and the art itself. Pump keeps it live

Very true about the factors. First I moved away from the gym. So travelling was stressful. Second, workout partner, my close friend stopped coming to gym and I felt boring at the gym looking at others do and then taking my turn alone and without much help. These two were the main factors.

9 years is such a long time and I'm glad you channelized the anger into working out rather than distracting yourself with anything else that is out of the way.

I used to feel that it was important to do it and show the naysayers that I wasn't the same. But after some time, especially when my own health pulled me down, I felt that living to satisfy or prove others wrong was costing my own time and energy. But again I now feel it's an excuse that I am giving to myself which could otherwise be a motivating factor. I wish to overcome this confused state and find a good place to workout again. Even during long rides I feel the importance of having good core strength and stamina to help myself out in case a troublesome situation arises.

Has anyone here experienced good results out of Yoga? Like getting toned muscles and improved core strength? Of course building body is too much to ask for from yoga.

I have gained a little size in the last few months but that has resulted in some increase in fat around waist area too. Now, I would like to start some fat loss program (without losing a lot of muscle mass). Can you suggest some good, interesting, fat loss program? I was looking at Jim Stoppani's Shortcut to Shred on bodybuilding.com. Has anyone tried it? How's it? Any other good programs that one can suggest? One that'll motivate me every morning to hit the gym.

Would also like to add that I have been doing Stronglifts 5x5 for the last 3 months.

IMO all the programs of Bodybuilding site are helpful if done seriously.
If you start this program, stop the strong lifts.

For motivation I have a playlist on youtube of Bodybuilding videos, I watch one before going to the gym

If your a starter then its wise to consult gym instructor or follow the online guides properly. but your experienced then you should know by this time that all the instructor/online guides will not suite 100%, one has take them as foundation and start preparing course/excersize which suit your body.

i prepared my own workout list and following it now , yes getting tummy also difficult as making it slim. will post the workout results in a month.

about prateek i am getting update from his fb posts

Agree, all workout doesnt suit everyone. Trainers will be able to guide in a better way.

I stopped protein supplements for the time being and eating soya chunks. They have good protein amount but cant replace a typical supplement.

fellow gym mates who are doing workout for couple of years suggested not to stick with protein supplements for long duration as its work in negative way, instead they advice protein intake via healthy food. and after all these years i can also endorse there view.

BTW, have to started workout specifically for back muscles ?? which help in long term bike riding ??

Doing extensions and all those lower back weight exercises including dead lifts. My lower back is stronger than what it used to be and it pains less in long rides. Only my bum gets numb

                            • Re: The Gymnasium thread: A guide

Finally got some time to write in this thread. I especially thank prateek and others for keeping this thread and inspiring others to take fitness as part of life. I like to add my life story here so that others can be motivated.

I have been working out and keeping fit for last 13 years. When people hear 13 years they say how are you motivated for so many years. But i have never felt the need for any motivations in my life. I sometimes watch pumping iron of arnold of which i have a copy. Also i have the encyclopedia of bodybuilding by arnold which i sometimes look into for inspiration.

So my motto is prevention is better than cure. Being fit is better than living on medicines and restrictions after 40.

So my story starts from school days. It was towards the end of class seven and class and beginning of class eight that i was selected for our schools foot ball team to play inter-school matches. I was to play in center forward position. I was quite thin but had lots of stamina due to my football practice and playing. During practice my coach said that i had great stamina no doubt but need to improve on power as didn't had power to give punch while kicking the ball. He suggested joining local gym.

Now the problem lies there. Unlike todays kids we didn't get pocket money. So can't afford gym. Moreover we were staying in a small town where people had no inclination for gym. Our house was near the stadium. Every morning at 5:30 am we used to do 45 mins practice of football. So i devised a plan. Since i lived near the stadium i used to go to stadium at 4:45 in morning and start my workout. Since i was a novice and in those days we didn't had accessed to internet so workout was novice. My father used to call be mulla do pyaja as i had solutions to everything.

So i devised a workout plan.

                              My plan was like this:-
                              1. Used to run 5-6 round around the stadium.

                              2. Then would do push ups on the gallery of the stadium. 3-4 sets.

                              3. Then would place some bricks as stand on ground and place feet on gallery and do sets of push up.

                              4. Then prisoner squats.

                              5. Then would do crunches on gallery floor and also would do planks.

                              6. Then would go to goal post and do pull ups and chin ups.

                              7. Then would do calf raises by standing on steps of gallery.

                              8. Finish off with two rounds of jogging.

After this would play football as it would be 5:30 and all will have arrived.

I didn't matter whether it was summer, rain or winter. I used to be at stadium at 4:45 am.

While i was thin i was quite heavy. I weighed around 65-67 kg even when i was thin. Doctor said that i have high bone density and muscle mass.

So it went on. Since i was thin and with these exercises my abs started to show and also the lats muscles started to pop out.
Was talk of the school as body building was not a craze those days. Used to impress my gf then as after football matches my shirt will be clinging to body and the abs and lats will be visible.

But this was short lived as after 10th class i shifted to bhubaneswar for further studies. When i got at bhubaneswar, i realized than guys here were good for nothing. No body played and heck no field was there to play. And then my schooling and 12th was ICSE medium. So you can know how hard it was.

In six months my waist increased from 28 to 34 inches. I was extremely worried.

Then my mechanic on seeing my plight took me to his friends gym. First time i got to see a gym. There was a guy named ghana bhai. He was quite old may be at that time he was 42 years(10 years from now). He was a martial arts teacher. Even though we were so different in age we be-friended easily and worked out in unison.

I didn't get money to gym. But since it was friend of mechanic i used to go their for free in exchange of helping out others in setting up machines.

In 3 months i was back to 28 inch waist. Felt fit and also faster.

Then i started learning kick boxing from ghana bhai. He used to teach me with great attention and also i enjoyed. But after four months he stopped teaching as his students mis-used martial arts. He teaches for defense, but students used it for attacking others. So he left teaching.

Then in mid 12th i left gym due to 12th exam and partly because gym was frequented by local goons.

Completed 12th and went to college. There befriended a guy who was son of one of the best gym of bhubaneswar. He on seeing my passion for fitness asked me to come to his gym.

I went there and was amazed to see it. I said that i can't afford such expensive gym. He laughed at me and said who takes money from friends. You in turn will help me in workout and keep my motivation to workout. I agreed.

So you see where there is a will there is a way.

Then the next part is how i helped him to revamp his gym and all.

Will tell tomorrow. Its quite late and will have to wake up early for workout.

Still believer of early to bed and early to rise. Already too late. Will tell next part tomorrow.

You moved away from a 9 year relationship like that ? holy mother of god...most wont appreciate what a feat that is...but me i can relate to it as i just ended a relationship and in my case i left her...even that was painful...i can only imagine how it would be on the receiving end and many times i just want to run back to her but i restrain myself as she is not a healthy person to be around and if i remember her when i am working out it feels like all the energy is sucked out of me...in those tough times i still struggle a lot....in those times i say to myself its the hormones playing tricks i really dont want her and i regain my composure and plough through my whole body workout routine like a bulldozer.... on the bright side i now have all the time i want to concentrate on myself....even i have made improvements in my workout....i look even better than when i was with her.
