also look into sony xperia E.. Its around 9k i think.. Android 4.1.. Nice device.. Look that also..
Unfortunately, Sony is not one of the brands they want to pick. Its either Nokia or Samsung.

I have heard mixed comments from salesmen at stores - some swear by Android, others by Windows.
Someone even said, using a Windows device can get "irritating" after a while!
I personally use an Android based phone, and did have a chance to look at & navigate through the Lumia 520 & Lumia 720 in a couple of stores. I really liked the user-interface, & it is a welcome change from Android. Felt comfortable in 5-10 mins of usage on the demo phone. Can't really talk about real world feel of using it day in & day out.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Is the user interface simple enough for a newbie?
Build quality does look really good, & the colourful UI only adds to the visual appeal.

Only apprehension being how easy is Windows OS over Android, for a newbie?

I seem to agree on the Samsung part. Anything lower than dual core or 1Ghz RAM sucks in their Galaxy range.

My cousin bro has it.. i have used the lumia for 2weeks.. started hating android after that.. (personal opinion) and for a newbie the interface is real simple.. the ones used to android will need some time to spend with the phone for understanding it.. the colorful UI is there to make it attractive..

Guys, how is the Nokia Lumia range? Android phone without good processor sucks big time. Any views for the Lumia range?

Nokia & Samsung are the only brands being sought.

The Nokia Lumia 520 seems to be a very nice device, & a great value proposition in the budget.

The phone usage shall include moderate levels of social networking & whatsapp.
Infact, this is the only branded phone with rich features at this price tag. I think this phone suits him for moderate use. Heavy users will find lack of windows apps and a little slow performance.
Sometimes the screen tends to freeze when an incoming call is coming and u have doubts about the batt capacity.
These problems I saw in my friends phone. Don't know others are suffering from this same problem
Other than that its great VFM phone.

Lumia is really good series and IMO best value for money. Get a 720 if budget permits, 920 is a little tit bits thrown in over 720. Good build, smooth, fast and its a Nokia.
