But that's a fact abhi,even i was shocked when the mech of bajaj sc in the city was filling 15w40 in 180.He said 180 requires a powerful oil and hence he poured castrol power 1 LOLZ..i think every body is ignorant about this fact and end up screwing up their engines.

@gotlo--why don't use Motul? Motul contact details is already there on another thread,contact them and voila,u can have motul at ur door steps(If ur in residing in a city).

@gotio: In Delhi every oil can be found as it is Nation Capital. Do try to get into contact with other Delhi Xbhpians andsort out this oil matter.

I too was given Castrol Activ 4T when asked for P180 oil. Castrol Active 4T is xW40. But then when i demanded xW50 i got Castrol GTX. I took it home and before i opened the bottle, my brother asked "is that 4 stroke bike oil?" So then i did some research and found it was car oil. So i gave the GTX back, and thankfully, the shop returned money. Then i asked him for Activ 4T Xtra which is xW50. He said he doesn't stock it because there is no demand, all pulsars use Activ 4T. Then i went to another shop, a castrol dealer. He had Xtra. But still he asked me why i am buying Xtra!!! Then i told him, P 180 needs xW50.

Nope! Buy Castrol Active Extra.

yes have done that, if you go through the oils tthread you will notice i have already got in touch with the motul distributor, he has given me an address. Need to go and check this weekend.. my problem was even those people who stocked motul had only synth in w50.. i want to use mineral till atleast 1.5k to 2k kms. will see if this shop whose address i got stocks mineral or not.. damned office have to wait till weekend

and about the runnin-in, believe me guys , my ride is gonna kick some ass, i am doing it with a surgeon's precision
not ripping it like some a*hole neither am i driving it like a sissy.. following all that i learnt here about running in, to the T
maintainin prescribed rpm, doing engine brakeing, taking all gears thru the rev range, opening up the throttle beyond the limits sometimes and then letting the engine cool... etc etc im doing it all odo read 950 now in 16days .. just need to shift to better oil this weekend
so guys, we are going to raise the bar in terms of pulsar's reliability quotient

Reliability comes with Responsibility and if you miss that, then forget about reliability.

Maybe you didn't understand my post fully. I use Activ 4T Xtra. What i was trying to convey is that, although Pulsars need xW50 oil, most owners, mechanics, oil distributors, service centers, etc... use xW40 oil hence killing the bike.

In fact, i dont know what oil my A.S.S. used after my last service, but it went bad after ~350km (100km city + 240km long). The 240km long had a lot of speed dashes and was 5 hours continuous with ~5min break/hr. Oil went black, engine was heating up much quicker, etc... So i put Activ 4T Xtra. That has lasted the 240km return journey + 2 months. Not sure of km.

Every oil turns black after a few 100kms of riding. so, no need to worry about its color. and about the lubrication then in our conditions Mineral oils are good enough for 1000kms.

@gotlo : buy motul 3000 15w50 mineral oil its excellent costs only 230 life ~1200 kms...if you cant get it in delhi than its real shame (kidding)
@Ayson : any oil turns black after a dozen kms ... if you are still in running in process than your engine is also supposed to get very hot within few minutes
@abhi : In pune pulsar and CBZ overhauling ratio is completely 'ulta'...man you came in shirdi, pune is not that far from there

I went to Singhgarh (fort ) on last sunday with bike to the top with pillion doing just 15-25 on astonishingly bad road...even with such circumstances bike has given millage of 53 KMPL which is 6 km plus to last figure, this is a serious FU from my bike to our dear central gov (my bike reves "you raised the petrol by 3rs. FU I increased the millage by 6kms")...

Also bike has done 2000 kms YYYAAAPPPPYYYY liberty to rev hard WOW
bought a can of motul 5100 15W50 for 380rs. today
dealer told me motul 5100 price is again hiked to 450rs something.
I will drop my bike for 2nd servicing tomorrow
any advice?

@ceaser : I think you said somewhere back that oil must not be changed when engine is hot, why is that?
Can I change the oil at my place? is the used oil of any use?

You extracted real juice of your machine. It gives absolute pleasure when one gets a higher fuel efficiency on premium bikes which is even bigger than the feeling of achieving fastest speed.
Waah re baba waah!! Tujhe kaise maalum pada ki mein SHIRDI mein tha. Jadoo ho gaya re BABA. Anyways, my younger brother also studies in Pune. I donot know his residing place, but as i come to meet him then will meet with you too.
Now, its a real challenge for me to extract some real figures out of my bike. As almost each of us are getting 50kmpl, now its time for me to upshift gears and extract 60kmpl from my bike.

Only worry on changing oil when engine is hot is that, oil is well distributed in each and every part so not every drop of oil is drained, make sure you leave it for atleast 15-20mins with oil nut open and try to drain full oil by tilting the bike to both sides. & you can do it at your home, i from last couple of oil changes am changing the oil at home by using the tool kit provided by the bike or you can buy your own tools.

But, i know that CEASER has his own reason of not draining oil while engine is hot

Again my post was misunderstood. What i meant was the ASS probably used xW40, so, maybe, the higher operating temperature of the Pulsar engine reduced its life.

My bike had done ~7.5k km when this happened, and i was used to my bike not heating up at all for small ~2-3km rides. Infact, clutch cover is usually comfortable to touch. But when this happened it was heating up quickly even from short riding.

After the oil change to Xtra, things went back to normal, and the oil is still red after ~400km.

Just a peice of suggestion if you like to take as you reside in delhi,
You may get your next service in Suman Autos, the Only bajaj dealer in Noida, may be you find service not up to the mark, but they take care of bikes well.. atleast i got positive response from them, regarding engine oil, they use Valvoline 4T 20w50 the recommended Oil, i m still running comfotably. crossed 1300 as of now.. not a single pin of problem
Try it bro.. wonder if you get satisfied with the service, else go for castrol Bike zone SVC they are quite responsive, specific, gentle and atleast listen to you....

Today, i did a small GP run of 40kms, Clocked 121KMPH 2-3times and then cruised at 70-85kmph later on.


@ALL, I noticed after high speed run that there was a "Gas leaking type" sound coming from the engine, and it was gone when i parked it and came after watching movie. What may be the problem?? is it anything related to speed that i did??

Touched 116 yesterday on the highway,this is my highest speed attained on my machine by ME.

GAS LEAKING SOUND? some thing like ''TIK TIK''? jaise paani tapakneki aawaz?? i hear it every day/everytime man.
