  • Hi Seniors,

I new to post in this place, but use to go through your posts.

Mine is a xtreme - 2010 model clocked 9k KMs in Odometer.

This may be already answered question, sorry to ask it again.

Currently Iam using stock HH 10w30 mineral oil.
Now I need your valuable suggestions on using Mobil One 4T 10W40 Full synthetic engine oil in my bike.

    1. Will there be any problem in using this ?
    2. If it is advisable, what are all the things to be checked regarding this ?
    3. If I switch to full synthetic, Will it cause any pblm to switch back to stock oil ?

    Thanks in advance.

    • @raj 11 ,

      welcome to the forum

There is no problem in using a full synthetic oil and later switching back to mineral oil.

In my honest opinion , your engine has clocked only 9k kms , ride for atleast 15k kms and then switch over to full synthetic oil . Let the valves set in.

Some say its a myth and you can use full synthetic oil right from day 1 , but allow some wear and tear on your engine and then switch over to full synthetic.

Basically once you start using full synthetic you will start enjoying the smoothness in your ride and you will not want to switch back to old mineral oil.

Just make sure that you drain out the old engine oil completely before you pour new oil

        1) I am going on a 600km trip shortly....the roads i am going to encounter are in very good shape....so most of the journey will be on 4th and 5th gear only....should i change to stock sprocket or continue with the uni sprocket for this trip?

        2) can i use bearing grease for lubing the axle rod /bolt/sprocket etc ? i asked for lithium grease and the shop keeper only showed bearing long life grease from veedol and castrol .

        3) Just poured a new bottle of HONDA genuine 10W 30 oil so i didnt take it to SC to fix the bore oil leaking problem....dont want to waste the new oil so planning on going on my trip with the bore leaking ...is this ok ?

I couldnt make the carb cleaned the SC guys dont do it at all....i asked the head mech he just drained the float bowl thats it....i would have to fight it out it seems...: (.

From my exp. of using motul 5w 40 and 10w 40 300V for 30000+ kms i would advise you to not waste your money on synthetics and stick to mineral oil and drain it at correct interval.

I change oil every 3k kms . Could not convince them to clean the carb since they argued that opening the carb will only ruin it further. i was like .

Even my regular local mech does not want to mess with the carb .
3K seems to be very good and the bike stays smooth throughout this period ? and yeah they seem to be very lazy to touch the carb .

Thanks mate-well actually i did not have any idea about the engine oil when my bike was new,so by not checking,or by mistake put 2 times 20w40 grade oil after which the mileage of my bike dipped to the lows of 30-31kmpl... but when changed to 10w30 the mileage was restored to 40+....

            • @ sarbanoxley did you installed full unicorn chain and spocket or just the front spocket?
whats the milage difference you felt. how is it on heavy traffic?

              @ Sibun

Today i cleaned chain from a local workshop and lube it with lubricant oil. I also checked the spark plug. its not soo clean but not soo bad. the mechanic said there is a little bit more gap he adjusted with some axe blade and fitted. after that i changed air filter my self. Air filter cost 130rs. when i enquire about spark plug on a shop he said its 76rs. is it that much cheap. ???
which spark plug is good. whats the life of stock spark plug?

              • @ATHUL4R 4K kms back i got the DIAMOND chain kit installed and no just installed the front sprocket from the unicorn not the whole kit....on stock setting driving in heavy traffic used to be pain in the rear...have to do a lot of gear changing...with this setup i dont have to worry about constant gear changes...the bike covers more distance in each gear...also i dont know its my imagination or not but it pulls from slow speed even in 3rd gear without jerking....on stock sprocket it would jerk if dont maintain correct speed in every gear....mileage i can only tell after i switch back to stock front sprocket.

But it would take you some time to adjust to the uni sprocket ....first i didnt like it at all as the pickup has gone down a bit and forgot to change it in the morning just before i went on my trip....only after covering 10kms i remembered but it was too late by then ....so cursed myself and hit the highway....immediately i could see that the engine felt more relaxed ....the more distance i covered the more i liked it....cruising at 75-80km/hr all day even with 170Kgs felt so easy .

Yeah bike stays smooth , no hassles anywhere . Engine is smooth , gear is smooth. Some of my friends say that clutch is hard , but when i got it a bit loosened ,i was not able to shift gears properly . I encountered false neutrals and the had trouble down shifting.

But got the clutch adjusted , now gear shift is smooth and normal .

so u installed DIAMOND chain kit of front 15t and back 42t kit. is this the same config of unicorn right.
how much it cost you? After checking the milage plzz let me know. what milage you getting with diamond kit.

yesterday i changer airfilter . left one is old and right one is new. cost= 130rs. I feel the filter paper is hard in my stock one and lite in my new one. when facing the new filter just below the sun i can see yellowish so it transfers 10-15% of light. but the stock (old) one is not passing any of the light it acts like a cement wall.

Spark plugs are cheap unless you go for Iridium or others costly ones.
I had recently changed spark plug, my bike was refusing to start, so couldn't search much, got a MICO-BOSCH UR3 DC plug (for Pulsar/Discover/Avenger), Rs. 70. It does its job well!
IIRC, even the recommended NGK shouldn't cost you more than 100.

                        • Is there a real difference between those stock spark plugs and those expensive iridium plugs you get ? Any one using it ? please share your experiences !

Though I've not used Iridium plugs, I've read in many places that they're not worth the money!
Hero recommended NGK are good enough.

                              • I've read recently in ZMR thread that Hero now sells/recommends Champion plugs instead of NGK, it seems there is some contract change.
