500km? Whoa! That will be great fun! No, shouldn't affect your run-in much. Just take breaks every 1 hour for about 10 minutes or so. That way, you're also allowing your engine to relax. Read this:

And I warmed up properly today and the bike was totally fine. Guess, that short warmup didn't heat up the engine well.

Any help on the chain hitting the cover issue? What are the symptoms of having a loose chain (tight chain as well)?
That's a nice cam your friend's got there! Glad to hear the cold start problem was fixed.
Chain hitting the chain case, your chain seems to be too loose. Tighten it and you should be fine.

500 KM?? its gonna b a long ride indeed. do take breaks in between ur ride (60-80 kms) and adjust ur rear shocks according to the roads (stiffer if mostly highways ).also check ur tyre pressure (28-30 front, 30-32 rear) before u take off. keep first free service period in mind 500-750 km and act accordingly.u might have to service ur bike @ a different Service centre.in that case keep ur booklet and documents with u.

Hi Guys, having a strange issue these days. Have to start with choke these days if bike is parked for more than 6-7 hours.i know its cold but i didnt have this problem before.in early morning its understood but not in afternoon or evening. and i always have to twist throttle to start otherwise it would just stall. to make it worse idle RPM needing frequent adjustment, sometimes it overshoots by itself upto 2.5 and if i decrese it some time later it is low enough to keep my bike idle.wth!! . checked my airfilter/spark plug.found ok.any other reason??

      • Sorry for late reply ...they changed new valves+oil seal and guide :

The mech told me it must be the valve guide thats at fault...if it was bad fuel he said both the valves would have suffered the same fate... is he correct guys ?

valve guide that was replaced :

They also opened the engine AGAIN just to see how it is...it was all good .

They told me even though the engine was torn apart to check i dont have to follow the run in again...hope this is correct as i hit 80KM/hr as soon as i warmed the bike to check the acceleration .

See, i told you that was the secondary air injection making sound, my experience of always experimenting with bikes and my specialization in automobile engineering has taught me a lot on bikes.Regarding your query on valve guides, i have the news that some batches had excess clearance in valve guides and thus caused mobile to reach valves and cause valve leakage and carbon. Good that the guides were changed. Actually changing the guides is not difficult but the machinery required and skill is the difficult part. The guides are fit and opened by hydraulic presses and the skill of the guy is important as a slight mistake will damage the complete head. Now there will be no problems of compression leakage. Did you ask them to clean the carburettor.Regarding splendor i think it is better to not find it and instead police must give no found report as a result we can claim insurance.
The funny thing is that yesterday we bought a HERO SPLENDOR PRO with alloy wheel and self start and even more funny is that we have not paid a single penny to the showroom. What happened is that my father was taking my joy as a result it was difficult to market for home. In extreme you know nothing is possible. Also i love my joy so much that if i do not ride it for a single day i feel awkward.
My dad was not ready to buy and wait. But i told if we get insurance we will get money and if we get the bike we will sell it after doing the needful repair.
So yesterday i returned from office at 3 PM and forcibly took my father from bank to showroom and bought a splendor pro with self and alloy. Since the showroom guys know me including their owner, i told them that i will pay after some days. So we took the bike without paying a single penny.I will pay them next month.
My father was not ready to buy a bike with self and alloy instead told me to take splendor+ with spoke wheels. But i insisted that if we buy a bike it must be self and alloy.

Now this is the first time in XBHP that a bike is bought without paying a single penny and without taking any finance. Its like buying grocery from your known shop and paying at the end of month.
The cost of bike is Rs.55000 and we paid Rs.0.
You must read my joy's experience on sunday in splendor thread.

Around 1 month ago, I drove for around 550 kms in one go from 07:30 am to 06:30 pm with break of 15-20 mins every 100km and it was really good. The only complain is hard seat which really becomes uncomfortable and butt becomes to ache. But no Back problems at all. Bike is returning mileage of 45-47 kmpl even now.

I completed my third service 3 days ago and now the bike is more fun to ride as there's less vibration and engine feels good and not at all stressed at 70 kmpl. I believe my clutch was wrongly adjusted and now i can really enjoy my bike as I wanted to. Apart from that, there's no technical problem at all with my bike till now.

Even i felt some sort of back pain after long drives >150kms on hill roads.Seats appear to be stiffer as compared to low end bikes(splendor etc),their seats are way more comfy.

How can you say its 500km long run then, its just normal runs. dont change the oil untill 500km.reduce the idle to 1100 at engine hot

                        • @senior members : i m currently having HID in my bike.m planning to revert to stock H/L.Not because its not working, instead it occassionaly discharges my battery if i keep it on for say 10-15 mins which sometimes becomes inevitable. i wanted to have a setup where i can use Low beam on AC and High Beam on DC (like flash) so that in city traffic or low speed there is no stress on battery and no risk of under lighting while at highspeed/highway even using battery power it will also get charged due to high RPM. i know its not a big deal but it would be better if someone could explain the pin connection and any other item (relays etc)required for this. I doubt my stock setup is still intact as there were some adjustment for the HID. anyone upgraded the battery in new xtreme-11 ??

                              Pretty simple actually.
                              • No sudden changes in speed. ie. No sudden acceleration or braking. Increase speed linearly, slowly.
                              • DO NOT get close to your redline.
                              • Don't lug the engine. ie. Don't putter around at low speed at a higher gear.
                              • Vary your speeds. If you're on a highway, don't stick to one speed, keep varying the speeds.
                              • Don't be afraid to cross 50kmph. Go upto 70-80kmph, but nothing beyond that. Go at low speeds all the time and you're risking glazing your cylinder walls.

                              I also found this:
                              Code:
[FONT=Arial] Do not use full throttle.

Avoid high engine speeds at all times.

Avoid riding at one constant engine speed, whether fast or slow, for a long period of time.

Avoid aggressive starts, stops, and rapid accelerations, except in an emergency.

Do not ride at speeds greater than 3/4 of maximum engine speed. From 500 to 1000 miles (800 to 1500 kilometers):

Engine speed can gradually be increased to the rev limit for short periods. Both during and after breaking in has been completed:

Do not over-rev the engine when cold.

Do not lug engine. Always downshift before the engine begins to 'struggle'.

Do not ride with engine speeds unnecessarily high. Shifting up a gear helps reduce fuel consumption, reduces noise and helps to protect the environment."[/FONT]

Why not change the entire setup to DC rather than have one beam on AC and the other on DC? Wouldn't that be a complication you can avoid?
I don't know about the relays and stuff. But I think you should change the entire setup to full DC and plonk in a 65W bulb. I've used this setup for close to 2 months now. No top end reduction, no battery discharging problems, nothing. Headache free, reliable lighting all the way.

                              • Guys, met with an accident three days back but thankfully It wasn't serious. The bike had some serious scratches on its visors and indicator lights. Since, there was a fall no matter the intensity, I am a bit worried about some internal components being messed up which I want to get thoroughly checked. Any help in this regard on what all should I get checked.

Are these things covered in the Insurance or they require a FIR for an accident to claim for an insurance?

Also, I've asked numerous times at SVCs about stickers but noone stocks them. Why is that? Doesn't Hero provide stickers for bikes?
