It is an asbestos packing and after repeated opening and fitting it gets compressed and thus will leak and cause sound.Another area is secondary injection pipe located on the head which has a packing. If that packing is not replaced each time it is opened then it will leak and cause sound.Since you mentioned the noise is after opening head cover then it is the secondary air injection. And piston slap will never occur in new bore.Regarding selling and buying it is no use taking a decision in a hasty mind. You will loose money. Since you have done the work under the HERO motors and you have bill it is there responsibility to do all things that is related to bore and head. If some problem is coming after work is done then it is their fault and they must rectify. And thread stripping as mentioned by mechanic then just give the example of my joy and tell them that my joy after running 3.18 lac km and after 2 engine overhauls still running like new bikes and heck can even make new 100 and 125 bikes eat dust and all bolts and nuts are OE that came from factory and single bolts has not been changed.

Yeah the other mechs are winding him up for some reason as i have complained against them in the past...sibunji i must give your phone number to the SC people so they can consult you before they do any major job
....just like you predicted the metal pipe on the top of the head cover packing was gone .... the head mech told me today and thats what was making the "chik chik chik" noise....the compression was lost due to carbon deposit on the valve and the valves being brand new done only 5000kms as they were replaced when changing the bore kit i asked how is this possible?....the first reply was bad petrol....i knew this is what they say as i have replaced 3 valves already on the old bore and on your advise i now go to only this company owned bunk far away from my place ....told them that and the head mech called another senior mech in this very big hero SC in chennai....that chennai mech instructed him to change the valve guide and told he has four Xtreme bikes with the same fault like mine on his table...he showed me the valve i will post a snap tomorrow....they have opened the bore once again just to check if the compression loss was due to busted ring and the bore is good he said...so they are going to replace the valve guide + new valves will get the bike tomorrow .

Your thoughts on defective valve guides sibunji is this a manufacturing defect

If possible some day ride to here and you will get rid of all your problems and will also do a mega road trip and also i will make you see orissa in detail.May be when you require a complete engine overhaul just ride here.
If you lived nearby i would not have to worry at all...at one point i thought of just sending the bike via train to your place....if nothing works out i am ready to hit NH5 will take me 3 days to get to your place but it will be worth it i am sure .

On a sad note our new splendor+(2010 run only 20k) got stolen yesterday.
Very very sad to hear this but here in my place cops do actually find bikes like this in one piece so dont lose hope was it taken from your work site or home ?

Now places thro' which compression can leak or make chik .. chik
    1) piston rings worn out ( oil pump faulty??, More heat was felt when you were riding those 5k kms.??)
Yeah bore was stripped open its good .

This is something even if i told them to adjust they will do it by hand only...will buy a feeler gauge and take it to SC next.

Yeah the packing on this one was gone the head mech said so they will replace it ...will ask them about the reed valve .

Yeah they changed it as a whole kit...bore+piston+rings...the box even had the packing in it.

    • Hi, Its about to be a year since I bought my CBZ Xtreme. The average I got is 42.7
My last servicing just got over. Recently one of my issue was not addressed by SS inspite of telling them. On 2,3& 4th gear when my rpm meter goes between 3-4.5 the front panel starts vibrating and creates a strange sound. This never used to happen before. Its different than the engine sound. Any suggestions?

it cost almost 1500 for set i.e ( small sprocket , bigger sprocket , chain )

Sorry to hear your experience after re-boring at ASC...
Anyways you have warranty, so you don't have to worry much.
I haven't get the work done on my Hunk yet. Need to get it done ASAP.

And regarding valves, my engine is drinking oil atleast for the past 5k kms, there should be enough carbon on valves now, more than bad petrol can do. But never felt bad compression!
So their claims about valves having large carbon deposit is wrong.

My old valves which lead to compression loss :

read about it all here :

as soon as the valves were changed it ran fine for a few months then again it will start loosing compression ....then again i will run back to SC they will change it again...even after i tried 2 diff. petrol bunks the valves were going kaput with the carbon build up....i thought after this bore was changed it will stop for good but it didnt...the head mech is saying changing the valve guide is the last resort as there is nothing else that can be done after that .

satsonji i myself saw the new valves today it has carbon deposit just like the above picture ...will take a snap for you
            tomorrow .

Regarding your engine work i would suggest you visit NAGAPPA AUTO chennai first and ask the lady for the head mech...usually only the head mech operate on CBZ...if you can try to avoid talking to the dickhead supervisor fellows ....they have a habit of changing parts without asking customers(personal experience ) but they have some pretty experienced mechanics .

5K no compression loss ? just wait and see what happens .

Just hoping this valve guide replacement will fix it once and for all .

Lack of a few drops of timely oil . Now open it , check the wear level on chain & sprockets then decide whether to buy a new one , or lose a few links on this and continue for sometime . And don't forget the oil .

Please check the valve seat and angle. Too little contact with valve seat will result in valves overheating, valve guide and stem oil seal going kaput.
Also a Too hot valve will cause fuel to gum up on the valve.
Did you replace the oil seal last time ? If you are replacing the valves again the replace the guide and seal.Make sure you get new valve guide installed by a competent mechanic/lathe because Head can be damaged easily if proper care is not taken.

                    Experts Please correct me.

Time to get a new chain kit. Removing some links will take away the ride feel (IMHO)

17k is too early for chain to become unusable.
IIRC, when you posted your Hunk's pic here, chain guards were not present.
Did it cause the early wear?

Have been reading this thread for a few months to gain knowledge about various problems and caring methods..

It will be helpful if you people can tell me on how to drive bike till first servicing..

I have been changing gears at 3-4000 rpm and choke start and idle for 3 min in mornings...

Congratulations on your new ride Rohit

Here are some tips which I received when I got my CBZ last year

                          1. Do not cross speeds of 40-45km/h till your first service.

                          2. Shift gears in the 3000-4000RPM range.

                          3. Try to maintain proper speeds for each gear, this might help you a little
                          0-10km/h -1st gear
                          10-20km/h - 2nd gear
                          20-30km/h - 3rd gear
                          30-40km/h - 4th gear
                          Beyond 40km/h - 5th gear
                          4. Avoid lugging the engine, meaning too low RPM for a specific gear, say in your 5th gear when your speed is around 10km/h. You'll hear a "thad-thad" sound when you lug your engine.

                          5. Avoid constant speeds, try varying them.

                          6. Change oils at 150-200 km range, this varies from people to people, some feel its good for the engine, some say the current engine oil we get for Xtreme is good enough till first service. Experts might help in here

                          7. Don't worry too much about running-in, enjoy your ride! Most of the bikes tolerate our bad run-ins as well unless we go overboard with something. Just keep loving her and treat her like your own family member (Mind you family not a relative ), she'll reciprocate the love in no time

And yes one more thing to add, with CBZ, patience is the key. My bike got buttery smooth past the 5000km mark! uptil then I felt the bike to be really harsh. You'll also start to notice all sorts of engine harshness, vibrations and a lot of things. Just get them noted at your next service, make sure you are satisfied with the job and vroom you go!

You got some awesome seniors here helping you so if you have anything that bugs you, feel free to post in here. Without them, I know where would I've been

All the best with your ride! Ride safe and congratulations once again

Dear, one more thought, you were riding your bike for some time when it was drinking oil. Most of the burnt oil would have come out as fumes and might have caught up in the stuffing inside the silencer. So get it checked and cleaned or changed before you start riding.

Wear is inevitable! But you will need to get it checked. Check the chain play by removing the rubber on the lower chain case and see if it adheres to the specifications mentioned on the same.

His is a new bike. :P Not even 2k on the odo. :P

Also an update, the DC configuration is working perfectly, no battery issues, nothing. Also, I remember reading that top end will reducing because of increased weight after rewinding, I would be a specimen to dispel that myth, my top end is unaffected even after rewinding. And the chain case, got a Chain Spray yesterday. Sprayed it a bit and some black gooey stuff was dislodged from the chain. :O
