Nice tip i twist the throttle a little and when i "feel" the pull i twist it a little bit more and it once takes few seconds and it reaches 75-80km/hr and i cruise ....i will try to do exactly like you do ...have a 300km trip coming up this week .

Yeah i have similar query as well...say i am cruising at 80km/hr then i see this truck and close the throttle ...the speed comes to 70 km/hr due to engine braking...then i pass the truck and accelerate to 80km.hr again...will riding like this ok for the engine ? cause i never let my engine "brake" ...i always pull the clutch no matter what speed it is...even on short trips i close the clutch hundreds of times .

      • ^^ Engine braking is always preferred. That is the best practice if you're in the correct RPM range. Even in car manuals, it is prescribed to use more of engine braking. However, if you're down-shifting from say, 120kmph - just for the sake of using engine braking, you're causing damage to your engine. It is fine for those high-revving, high displacement motorcycles on which engine braking is a must. Check a few videos on YouTube for better clarity.
I have been using this technique for years and thankfully, have mastered it. Best practice to ride consistently through dense city traffic and effective traffic signal management.

Also, please take care not to use the clutch too often (of course, only when you're in the correct RPM range). DO NOT use an oft-used method to downshift - by holding the clutch continuously and downshifting a few gears. Like you do when you anticipate a stop/at a signal. Instead, ride cautiously - keep down-shifting gradually (engine braking) and then finally to the lowest gear and neutral. Not like holding the clutch and down-shifting from 5th to 1st/Neutral at one go.

Absolutely! I used to use the clutch about 2 years ago on my brother's P150. But after a while, learnt to use Engine Braking to my advantage. I've seen so many people downshifting from 5th to 1st at one go, the sound from the gearbox is heartbreaking!

Using clutch and allowing bike to move freely/using top gear while going downhill is the reason for majority of accidents on ghat roads.
              What you practice is right.

              • Imran bro, relax....it is normal with new chains. The chain is brand new, not ridden and hence keeps on becoming loose. Nothing to worry about. IMO, no cutting of links required as of now. Take it to the SVC and get the needful done. Proper cleaning and lubrication and a few hundred kms (or even a 1000) will surely improve the chain tension. Stop worrying so much. Enjoy ur new ride! The ideal way to tighten a chain is to match the number of turns of the chain-tensioner screw on the left swing-arm bar with that of the right bar. 2 mins is all it takes to adjust the chain tension - see how they do it at the SVC and try it yourself the next time. Do everything possible within the warranty period. If something goes wrong, you can easily put the blame on the SVC guys!

                  • Dont know why but majority of Hunks are facing problem as Imran bro is facing. My friend owns a 1 yr old hunk and same problem. chain makes sound while driving bike. . .
I guess something is wrong from company side.

After chain develops uneven tight links it cannot be adjusted to correct setting, and the loose links will be more loose hitting lower chain guard. I think this is also one of the reason. My Hunk's chain is more than 25k old and started showing this problem at 21k. I had to remove the lower chain guard anyways because of my fat rear tire, and the problem disappeared.
I am not recommending this to anyone but just noting down my experience.

                        • I was driving alone on NH6 Highway at 65 Kmph and a brand new Unicorn with 3 ppl passed me at 70+ kmph. For a moment, i thought it was Electric bike as I couldn't hear the Uni's engine sound but then all i could hear was its moving chain. I was shocked for a while as it was cruising effortlessly at 70+ kmph with 3 ppl and boy was i feeling jealous. Wish I had same refinement and smoothness as Unicorn

It is simple, you didn't hear its sound because you are closer to your bikes than his. Same thing when an extreme or hunk passes, you will not be able to hear his sound. And regarding 70+ let your bike run for more. My bike has run for 6.5k and a service is due, but suddenly the bike has become very smooth. You will not be able to hear the sound and it pulls effortlessly. Give some time for engine to free up. My extreme was feeling so poor on buying that i thought my joy had much better pulling power than my extreme. But as the kilometers are piling the bike is undergoing a complete transformation. Now the bike has gone smooth but do not expect unicorn smoothness as this bike is tuned for performance. With bigger carb, hi-lift cam, and aggressive firing and timing, slight vibration is present to give the bike a performance feel.

my bike had similar problem when she was on stock, however after 25k kms, when it was changed the problem disappeared.
