have to see the difference after i find such road again. i feel better pickup response, still i feel problem might still be there, let me check and confirm. Otherwise tappet adjustment will be only option left as i m getting more sound from engine as compared to earlier days.

Yah , 1mm in place of 0.8-0.9mm is ok . Infact if your ignition system is ok and plug newish , it is normal to keep to the max gap . That gives better burn . Yes there is a specific torque mention in the service manual (which only the service center has) .
First clean the threads of both the plug and it's hole(on the engine head) . You can use a blast of carb-cleaner or a drop of nail-polish remover and clean lint-free cloth wipes for this . You can apply a tiny drop of clean motor-oil on the plug threads to ease screwing and removal . Fit the plug in by hand only , and screw it in untill it's finger tight (i.e fully seated in the hole as far as possible by bare hands only - be careful of cross-threading and binds) . It is important to first screw it in by hand so that if it binds or cross threads while screwing in , you can easily feel that and withdraw it and try again . After finger tight by hand like this , tighten a new never-fitted-yet plugused-earlier plug

              • Thousand kms done. Experience so far.
                First 500 kms:
Limited speedo to 40km/hr for first 100 kms. For remaining 400, kept it under 4k r.p.m. irrespective of speed limit[all gears].
                FE: City=36 km/l.
Highway=39km/l. [Just one off trip with 100rs worth of fuel just for the ride]

                Next 500 kms:
Increased tacho limit to 4.5k upto 7.5k r.p.m. and then increased to 5k. FE tested only thrice. Twice in the city where for 100 rs worth of fuel bike returned me 52km/l.
Post 1000 kms, couldn't hold my itch, did a few speed runs of about 20-30 kms 2-3 times[Tacho@6-7 r.p.m. max]. Bike ran 128 kms for 200rs[2.70 lit] worth of fuel.

Spark plug adapter was stolen from a parking lot a few days ago, so yes, that's one new spare part on the bike. Watchman once dropped the bike while moving it without my knowledge when making way for a car in the parking lot. No damage to bike, paint peeled off the crash guard though. Thrice was hit by bikers from behind at traffic signals, some paint from the exhaust end[SLVR] also gone. Tyres on bike are good enough for my needs. Only once they skid bad in sand when I used my normal 70-30[F:R] braking method, my bad. The throw of headlight is adequate too, tested very well on the ORR.

Issues I've faced is with the battery. Sometimes, the bike doesn't come to life with just a click like it usually does. The performance part I won't comment because I wouldn't know much about it. Will try posting as and when I understand more. Right now, for the next month, will be busy with exams. Once done I will try tuning my bike, let's see. Hope I collect right tools by then too[ Right now I don't have adequate tools to even do away with the saree guard].
Here's my Xtreme after one of the speed runs.

You can actually pull the clutch lever whenever there is a problem with startup...
I m also the same situaltion as yours and my bike comes to life with half switch when i pull the clutch otherwise its doent comes to life...
But my problem is only in the morning and only sometimes i face it... not always....
And even i m getting a FE as 52 with 100 rs of petrol(reserve to reserve method)....
The rest i can say is happy riding...

                      .
                      How does that help?
And no, I wouldn't worry about FE much, as seniors in this thread keep saying Hero engine takes a lot of mileage to open up.
Also, I dint mention in my above post. I warm up the bike for a good 5 minutes every day, so I know I burn a lot of fuel there. General drill is that I switch on the bike and then get onto wiping the dust off it.

Its the problem in bike when it does not come to power..... So generally i pull the clutch and voila it starts...
dont know it will help you in any case.. but the problem which i m facing goes away as soon as the clutch lever is pulled in my bike...
Maybe its just with my bike..... So you need not worry about it..
And yes warming up for 5 mins will definitely burn a lot of fuel...so try and warm for anything between a minute or two...

                        • 11k update of my extreme

My extreme has crossed 11k on odo and it is clocking of kilometers like crazy. Monthly it is running a minimum of 2.5k.

So how is the ride. To sum up at 11k then:-

At 11k bike is feeling quite free to rev and picks up rev quite fast. As with my experience of my Joy,pleasure and splendor, Hero bikes gets quite free after 10k and this is also true for extreme, the tachometer just shoots up with slight twist of wrist.

As usual the pull from 6k to 10k rpm has grown more intense and after 11k the sound has also changed, previously the deep sound after 6k was not audible but now it is quite audible. Also since my 99% of running consists of state highways and national highways, bike is always north of 6k rpm and sometimes 8k to 9k rpm.

Mileage is consistently around 55 +/- 5 and with careful throttle it is around 60 kpl.

It runs smooth with some vibrations between 4.5-5.5 k rpm rest all is good. The pads are half worn as i use the brake very less as i control speed with throttle. The rear brake has been adjusted only once and is perfect. I hardly touch the rear brake.

Top speed achieved with stock sprocket is 117 kph at 9k rpm and with unicorn sprocket was 119 kph at 8.8k rpm. Bike was slowly pulling beyond 9k rpm but i had to brake. When my bike was new that is at less than 5k on odo bike was not pulling beyond 105 kph but with some high speed runs and also as the engine freed up the top speed went up significantly.

Maintenance- Hardly i have spent anything on maintenance. Only oil change and chain cleaning and lubing is all that has been done at 1200 km intervals. But after 11k bike is asking some work.

Some of the work that i will do this sunday which is pending since long:-
                          1. Tappet adjustment as it has gone seriously loose and is making very bad noise and also hampering performance as engine gets hot.
                          2. Front shock oil change as fork is not completely returning after compression, will change with Motul oil.
                          3. Front brake oil as it has gone slightly brown and will change before sludge formation takes place.
                          4. Front caliper cleaning and greasing as brake dust is hampering pad returning.
                          5. Air filter change as it has gone dirty and has done 11k.

Apart from these no other work is needed.

Gear shift padel of my xtreme has gone loose at the joint where shifter connects to the shaft.
I tried to tighten it up but to no avail.
What should I do to prevent slipping

Simply open and inspect, what is worn. If shaft is fine then may grooves on pedal is worn or may bolt is slipped i.e, damage thread on bolt. Try changing the bolt.
