I have, and not really noticed a difference.. considering my scoot has always been butter smooth with just the regular oil changes.

That said.I recently cleaned it as the winter effect got my tyre busted.Replaced it with CEAT ones.Cleaned the air filter etc.

    PROBLEM FACED:-

    1. Squeaky Rear Brakes.

So how much would it cost to replace the lever on the hub as its rusted during the rains?
How much does stock air filter cost?
Not sure about the brake cam lever but my guess is around Rs150.
Check if there is sufficient pad material, and if so, slightly rub the brake shoes with some sandpaper or a hacksaw blade and clean the drum surface with some petrol.
The cost of the stock air filter is around 170rs , a bit cheaper if you are able to buy it from a local spares shop. But beware, a lot of fakes in 'oem packaging' are being sold by local spare shops.. i was conned a few months ago.

i have used a lot of brands..
        1. honda 20w40.. the one that was sold until around 2009..and they later switched to 10w30's
        2. castrol activ 4t 20w40 (jaso ma.. normally used on motorcycles) least satisfied with this oil.. the fe took a 2kmpl hit with this oil and lost a bit of peppiness. mind you this was when the scoot was relatively new with around 12k on the odo.
        3. shell ax5 20w40 .. wonderful oil. did a couple of long runs (to nagarjun sagar) with this oil
        4. Castrol activ scooter.. 20w40 JASO MB gearless scoot specific grade (no longer available).. i would say the best IMO.
        5. Castrol activ scooter 10w30 JASO MB (replaced the 20w40 mentioned above). No complaints, scoot used mostly for short runs these days.
        6. Finally, motul 3000. 20w40, currently on this oil.. seems to have taken a minor hit on the fe again.. refinement as good as ever. 6 months since oil change, done around 2500km.. oil change and service due this weekend (weather permitting)

Conclusion.. these scooters (or for that matter most engines) are happy with regular oil changes.. And don't forget to change the gear box oil (use the ep90 oil.. i get mine from bharat petroleum, mak spirol ep90)

Since it has been sitting idle, i suggest you get the carb, clutch side opened and cleaned up and change both the oils.

thanks a ton dude. will call you today for pointers on motul 3000 and EP90 oil.
yep a lot of things to be done.

including rear tyre and rim change.

another question. rear rim seems to be a bit bent. should i get it fixed or just buy a new one and chuck this off ?

if the bend is at the lip you can easily get it hammered and set in place.. i had a similar damage probably due to hitting a stone and tire pressure was probably low. but if the wheel is not tru but rust free, try to get it fixed.. if its rusted, get it replaced. i guess a new rim is around 500rs.
if you notice a wobble and feel that the rim in bent, in most cases it is the rear wheel bearing that has gone bad. to replace this bearing, the gearbox has to be opened. a simple job but make sure you use the oem bearing.

dont paint directly over the rust. you have to first sand down the rusted area, and then apply a coat of red oxide followed by a coat or two of spray (available in cans) or enamel paint - you can buy these stuff at almost any hardware store.
btw, where exactly is the rust ? If its under the panels and not visible outside, you could apply a thin layer of grease around the area that's prone to rust. get hold of the nulon grease spray..it isnt as thick as regular grease.

And yes, you can buy just the side stand spring from any local spares shop.. should cost you around 20 bucks.

An old 2006 activa needs a bendix pinion (gear) change.
Was thinking of replacing it myself. Cannot figure out its location
Even checked that dio(lead) manual once to figure this out but got nothing.
Is it an easy job ? Any special sized tool required ?

you will need to remove the clutch side cover and the 'bendix pinion' thingy will be located on the top left corner hidden under a cone shaped cover. if you watch closely, you will notice that cone shaped cover in the video below
This videos will show you how to open the clutch assembly.Once you open the clutch cover then all u need is a size 14 box spanner and Tommy handle to open th...

I suggest you get it done from a mechanic.

Problem.- it takes hell lot of time to start now days, once started, no problem in riding, you can still do 80kmph with it, engine works awesome. But only problem is of starting it.
Too many kicks and then it starts, what is the problem?

First get the valve clearances checked and adjusted to spec. You might notice a slight increase in compression (a bit more resistance when you kick start it) when you set the valve clearances correctly.
Also if the spark plug has done over 20k km, time to replace that as well.
Do these two and let us know how it works out and based on this we can proceed further with checking other things.

Valve clearance was adjusted in Jan and now again two days ago. Earlier after adjustment, it used to work fine for months but this time even after adjustment, problem has become less severe but still its noticeable.

My scoot is not idling properly, often stalls during riding when throttle is closed completely. ODO is little over 20k kms now. Valve clearance (tappets) never done so far.

What's the spec for intake/exhaust Sid?
