good to see shell jumping in to the scooter oil segment.
i have used the regular ax5 20w40 in the past and it was a good oil. Had done a few long rides (300km round trips) on that oil.
the price would be around 260rs I guess.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
I always wanted 10w40 mb oil, which is sadly not available in our market......I have tried 10w30 mb oils of castrol, motul & gulf ,all work's fine but it's too thin during summer...so I switched to car oils which contains friction modifiers just like jaso mb oil..shell ax5 is a ma rated oil so big no no for it....so far helix has worked fine , ultra smooth, low vibrations and same fe.....what I believe is that car specific oils are safe bet on scooters which runs on dry clutch and separate gearbox...if you are cost conscious then you can try shell helix hx5 rs 316....Originally posted by s1d View Posti don't doubt the oil, but the price..woah !you are better off getting the shell ax5 or castrol / motul gearless scooter oil.these scoots are happy with mineral oils with a oil change every 2500km-3000km.

yes, the car oils would work just fine.Originally posted by suj View PostI always wanted 10w40 mb oil, which is sadly not available in our market......I have tried 10w30 mb oils of castrol, motul & gulf ,all work's fine but it's too thin during summer...so I switched to car oils which contains friction modifiers just like jaso mb oil..shell ax5 is a ma rated oil so big no no for it....so far helix has worked fine , ultra smooth, low vibrations and same fe.....what I believe is that car specific oils are safe bet on scooters which runs on dry clutch and separate gearbox...if you are cost conscious then you can try shell helix hx5 rs 316....
i have used the ax5 in the past with no issues. and i do prefer the w40 grades too.
as long as you are changing oil regularly at 2500-3000km intervals, any oil in the w40/w30 grade is good depending on outside temp/how the scoot is used.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
Hello, We recently bought Honda Activa 3G & I am really concerned about where to give the bike for first service. Any one from Bangalore, pls help me out!!Being best is not about beating everyone. It's about how much you learn from others and make yourself even better

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
the only thing done during the first service is an oil change and a wash. so you could give it at any authorized service center.. but i'd advice you to stick around while the bike is being serviced.Originally posted by ankur2smart View PostHello, We recently bought Honda Activa 3G & I am really concerned about where to give the bike for first service. Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
Hi guys
So I've covered 13500 kms on my 2012 Activa (It turns 3 today btw)
I've noticed that the rear tends to slide quite a lot even if the roads are moderately damp. Dry grip is perfect. Tread depth is also within the safe limit
I guess it's time to change my tyres, or should I hold out? Can anyone recommend tubeless tyres for the 2012 Activa (Remember, this came with the TuffUp tube inside)
Also how much would a new set cost? Tubeless as well as tube?
Thanks in advanceEat, Sleep, Ride, Repeat.
Gear ON. Engine ON. Big grin under helmet... GAME ON !!!!

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
If it came with the zappers+tuff up tube , I'd suggest you stick to them or a ceat tire+tuff up tube (am not sure if this rim can hold a tubeless).Originally posted by Vignesh Padmanabhan View PostHi guys

The life of these zappers on my '07 dio never lasted beyond 14k km. They were bald by 15k. This is for the rear. On the front they lasted me 40k km (or more i guess)!
If you have sufficient tread depth, then first start by ensuring the right tire pressure (30-34 at the rear depending on the load).
Check the tread depth at the center because that's where most of the contact/wear is.
Finally, if the grip is simply not what it used to be like (i know the zappers are not good in the wet, especially when they have run more than 10k km) then get a new tire+tube.
The last time i bought the zapper tire (i think 5 years ago), it was around 1000rs.. and the tuff up tube was around 460rs a couple of years ago.
I am using the ceat tires now and its life seems to be much better than the zapper plus the tire is cheaper (got it for around 750rs) and grip in wet is especially better than that of the zapper (i believe due to its tread pattern), though i always use the tuffup tube (its saved me a few times from being stranded with punctures).

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
I think changing oil every 2000km vll be safe bet on these scooter....remember these scooters doesn't come with oil filters, combined with high revving nature , oils gonna have tough time inside these small engine...Originally posted by s1d View Postyes, the car oils would work just fine.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
2500km is a safe bit. i've have pushed it to 3500km at times. these scooters do not have a wet clutch and hence there will be no 'clutch wear debris' in the oil.Originally posted by suj View PostI think changing oil every 2000km vll be safe bet on these scooter....remember these scooters doesn't come with oil filters, combined with high revving nature , oils gonna have tough time inside these small engine...
some scooters like the suzuki's do have an oil filter as well.
the important thing to follow is a regular oil change, keeping 2500km as a safe limit (of course people are welcome to change oil even earlier!). But if you constantly ignore / extend oil changes, you will ruin the engine in the long run. Oil and engine technology(materials that go in to making these) has come a long way and they sure can hold up for 2500km at least.
I've done well over 50k on my dio and this is my experience. My scoot runs just fine with good compression and is on the stock bore/piston and has only been thru regular services (under my watchful eyes
)and no engine part replacements (except for the recent replacement of clutch shoes and the periodic air filter/spark plug)

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
I agree with you on all the stuff you have mentioned ,but these scooters always run on a very high rpm ,so it will take the life of the oil sooner than motorbike...Originally posted by s1d View Post2500km is a safe bit. i've have pushed it to 3500km at times. these scooters do not have a wet clutch and hence there will be no 'clutch wear debris' in the oil.
