  • Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator

    Hi Guys

I just hope you all are having same amazing rubber burnin season all over.

Guys, I have Honda Aviator HET and today's date i just happened to clock 8000 on the odo, Timely serviced and everything seemed just like a smooth silk butter until i came to a very annoying section. Fuel Effeciency!!!

At the time of second service i used to get the fuel average of 40-45 kmpl and now its just 33 kmpl. I used Honda's engine oil for the first two servicing and on third i switched to Motul by Suzuki 4T 10W40 (pics attached)

My riding mode has always been to 40-50Km/ph unless cought in traffic. After i switched to Motul, i noticed that it had removed a weird sound off my exhaust and its feeling good, but lasted only for a week or two and i got that sound back on attached to my exhaust again. Also i noticed that the acceleration had gone bit stiff.

So, guys can you assist me with this one, Appreciate it alot.

JASO-MA2 is recommended for motorcycles with wet clutch.
10w40 will be little thicker than 10w30 at working temperatures. 10w30 JASO MB is recommended for higher mileage, it also has lower oil-change-intervals.

Added thickness 10w40 oil muffles the engine sound, esp for first few hundred kilometers.

      How does spark-plug looks like?
When muffler/silencer is cold, check if there is any wet/dry carbon deposits in the exhaust outlet mouth.
What carburettor is used in Honda Aviator HET ?

How do you check fuel economy ? Normal FE will be around 38~40kmpl in city traffic... a bit more on open roads.
What else was done on third service ? I hope they did not touch the carb.
This oil you used seems to be the motul 3000 (rebranded as 'suzuki' oil). this is a general motorcycle oil since its a MA2 grade. Of course you can safely use this oil in the scooter as well. But yes a w40 oil might make the scooter return a little less FE (maybe around 2 km lower but definitely not a whooping 10 km less)
I suggest you stick to the stock honda 10w30 oil ,especially if the scoot is used only around the city for short runs.. which is what most people use it for. This oil is a JASO MB grade made specifically for dry clutch (i.e. gearless scooters in our country) and is way better than a regular MA/MA2 grade in a scooter. If not the honda oil, then get castrol's gearless scooter oil which these days is available in 10w30 JASO MB.
Also note that you should never use a MB grade oil in a wet clutch system (i.e. most of our geared motorcyles) but using a ma/ma2 in scooters is alright.. just that mb is better.
If you read my previous post, I have also mentioned my feedback on using the motul.. it does take a little nippiness out of the scooter.
And finally how much oil did you use ? You must be filling up only around 700~800 ml max. Anything more is a big NO.

        • Honda Activa Maintenance Schedule

Hello guys, needed some help with Activa's maintenance Schedule

I bought my Activa in 2013 November and out of the 4 free servicing I actually lost 1 free servicing due to delay and so in 2014 I had a total of 3 free servicing + 1 paid

In 2015 until now I have done 2 servicing for a total of 6 servicing until now. Now the guys in the service station never filled out the info in the booklet for each servicing and I never knew about it and so never bothered to ask.

However another issue is I have an extended 2 year warranty which begins in November and my next service is due in november. I have the extended warranty booklet and it starts with 6th service as in the image below. But my next service is gonna be the 7th, so how shall I go about making an entry in this booklet?

Also I am getting my bike serviced every 4 months. Every 3months seems like a waste to me since my daily usage/ monthly usage isnt that high.

The svc did not even tear out the coupon or make any entry for the free/paid services ?
Don't you have the bills from past services ?
Anyway, I just suggest you take this extended warranty booklet and have it filled up from the upcoming service onwards. That way you will be covered under warranty since they are filling up the coupons and preferably with their rubber stamp(which implies that they are honoring/continuing the warranty by taking in these coupons)
And hereafter keep a copy of the bill and job card(take a photocopy/photo and sign on it with a comment mentioning something like 'extended warranty service no. xx)

No they tore off the coupons for free servicings but never made entries in the last page where they were supposed to make. I do have the 2 bills from the servicings I did earlier this year. I also have teh Original paper which states when my warranty will be starting. But my issue was as I said before, in the warranty booklet it starts with the 6th servicing. How should I prove to them that its the 6th servicing if they demand for it?

if they did tear off the coupons, then they probably have it entered in their computers... no worries.
just make sure going forward they make an entry in the owners manual also (usually one part of the slip is torn off and the left over part will have the date and svc's signature)
most likely they will not demand for anything... since this seems to be a practice at most svc's. they just tear off the coupon without making any entry/signature on the manual. so going forward just ensure they make an entry in the owner's manual also. not much you can do about the past, so ensure atleast in future you sit on their heads to get the work done.
And as i mentioned earlier, every time you sign the job card (at the time of delivery) make sure you enter some comments before you sign it (like say 'second service' or '6th service/extended warranty') and keep a copy yourself.
The more you keep stuff under writing the better it is for you if in case something goes wrong.
Living in Hyderabad and having dealt with these asc's i do know how lazy they are at times. There is a svc at Krishna nagar and a mech named 'raju', not sure if he is still working there, but he is a factory trained mech and a sensible one among the others i have seen.
I personally quit going to the svc since the 4th svc of my dio and came across this local mech with whom i have had most of the services done in the past 6 years with zero issues on my Dio which has done over 50k km till date. The engines on these scoots are super reliable

Is the sound that you mentioned from the exhaust like tick tick coming after you turn your Aviator off after a drive ? Mine has the same problem and its engine oil need to be changed as well. I have heard it from other bikes so its not a big deal i guess.

Like a month or before I took my Aviator for servicing to a local mechanic and when all was done I rode it and while giving it full throttle it gives the sound like a Hayabusa. I sort of like that but feels odd at some times. Does an one know the reason for that ?

The 'tick-tick-tik' sound from the exhaust is completely normal and occurs on most 4-stroke bikes with a caton. that is the sound of metal contracting.
sound like a hayabusa ??!! should definitely hear it man!!
btw, i hope you guys stick to filling up just 700-800ml of oil max. i know a few mechs who dump in 900ml to a litre which is strictly a big NO.

Nice! I would also go to a local Mech but since the activa is under extended warranty, I have to go to a SVC

Not really. Your engine is covered by Honda incase of any natural damage to it for 2 additional year. Although you do pay slightly more at the honda SVC but thats ok, nothing to fuss about. Repair of engine damage not covered under warranty would prolly cost Big $$$

                              i don't doubt the oil, but the price..woah !
you are better off getting the shell ax5 or castrol / motul gearless scooter oil.
these scoots are happy with mineral oils with a oil change every 2500km-3000km.
