  • My new Activa is due for it's first service.I would like honda owners to pour in with their experiences with honda service centers in Lucknow.

What other things should i take care of while giving the vehicle for servicing ?

    • they'll know what to do...just tell them your problems...and if engine oil is to be changed tell them to do it in front of you when u come to collect your vehicle...

      • Hi guys,

I bought a brand new Honda Activa DX in March of 2011. Manufacture date was February 2011, so I have the latest model with combibrake, etc.

Now, it's been almost a year, and I have a few issues/problems with it, and it would be great if you guys can provide solutions to these.

No. 1 - The brakes are PATHETIC I have the tendency to go very fast, and I can't help it. I just can't go slow when the whole road is empty, and I can really speed it up, but the problem arises when I have to slow down or brake really fast. Sometimes, when am going downhill, even after applying the MAX OF BOTH BRAKES, it still won't come to a standstill and I can feel the tyres moving, when they should be absolutely still. I didn't have any problems the first 4 to 6 months since it was brand new.

Now, I know we can change the "brake shoes" or "liners" as we call it here, but is there any way I can improve the braking ? Like performing a mod or something or which brand of "brake shoes" or "liners" are the best ?

No. 2 - It SLIPS LIKE HELL We have a mix of concrete and tar roads here, and when there is even the slightest of water on these roads, the Activa slips like hell. I've already slipped and fell twice with my wife as pillon rider. Thank god she didn't sustain any major injuries. This last Monsoon season, I slipped and had a fractured shoulder But that was mostly coz of the stupid rickshaw driver who came in front of me, and I braked so hard with both the front and the back brakes, it slipped on the wet road

Now, I've checked my tires, and I really don't think they are worn out. So I guess the only thing I can do is slow the way down on wet roads ?

No. 3 - The Headlight. Our roads here are riddled with potholes, and at nighttime, with the "dipper", it's not powerful enough to show me the road properly, prolly coz it can't beat the orange streetlights we have here, and when I use the "upper", the beam is obviously high and is meant for the highway.

So, I would love to change the bulb to a more powerful one. What would you guys recommend ? Halogen ?, etc. Which brand is the best ? How much does it cost ?

No. 4 - What's the best engine oil to use with Activa ? and how much does it cost ? I've only had the oil changed twice. First, the Honda people did it on their first or second service, and secondly, I got it done myself around 5 to 6 months ago. Now, I searched the forums, and there were quite a few recommendations, like the "Motul 4T semi-synthetic oil" or the "Petronas" or something with a "5000T" in it :P

So which oil would you guys recommend ? and will I have to change the oil filter if I go from regular to semi-synthetic (if at all necessary that is).

No. 5 - The horn. It can be sometimes more than enough, but in traffic, people don't even pay any attention to my horn and don't get aside, hence I have to slow way down to prevent crashing into them and brake hard again. Any good horn you guys can recommend ? That would be great

Am thinking of giving my Activa for servicing tomorrow, hence would love to have some advice today

Thank you so much in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply

PS: Sorry for writing this post so big

Yes or apply brakes gently and never apply hard,it will cause skids.

Yellow lights produces the best output,IMO normal bulbs are better than Halogens.During rain, white light loss its power as glare.

Better stick to 20W40 good mineral oils,Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40 and Motul 3000 4T Plus 20W40 are very good mineral oils and cost's less than 300rs.

The horn.Any good horn you guys can recommend ? That would be great
Going to Swap my friends activa's horn with Roots Windtone,They are more than enough for a scooter.Price is 550rs for a pair, then you will have to buy
relay from bosch or roots 130rs and extra wires and labour.

Here it is in my ZMA.

            • Got the first service done for my Activa yesterday.

              Total bill - 215/- Rs.
They charged 184/- for 800ml of engine oil & 30/- Rs. for applying some gel on battery terminals.

How much does that honda 1 ltr engine oil can cost ? Can I buy it & give it to them for my second service ?

Washing wasn't done properly. One guy was applying some liquid polish on all the vehicles after the wash.He had the polish in an engine oil can .Wasn't sure what sort of polish was that so didn't allow him to apply that polish on my activa.

So you mean to say I should stick with the stock headlight ?

And thanx for the info on oil. I'll try to find Motul here. By the way, how much mL will it be ? and how much should I put in my Activa ? This time, am gonna personally get it done by the mechanic and tell him to do it in front of me

About those horns, thanx for the info. I'll have to personally hear them to get a satisfaction of sorts before going ahead with it.

Also, you think they can be installed under the Activa front bonnet thingie (where the original horn and battery lies) ?

Thanx for all the info man. Really appreciate the effort

This amount seems to be perfectly alright.

Yes,As you are not going to do long tours with your Active,Stick to stock and adjust with it. Its very hard to upgrade Scooters headlight.

Wind Tones from Roots are Damn loud. 100% Guarantee..

Yes,I came to know that there is more than enough space for dual windtones in the front portion.

Thanx for all the info man. Really appreciate the effort
                  Always welcome.

                    • Hey,

Am gonna get the Roots Windtone (with relay) installed tomorrow in my Activa DLX, but before that wanted to know. Are they waterproof ? Will they be able to withstand the occasional water wash ? And how do they fair in the rain ? (given we are only 4 to 5 months away from them). Don't wanna dump close to 1k in it and regret later.

                      Thanx

Dont forget to get quality clips and a minimum of 2.5mm thick wires, else they'll short out with time.

                            1. They're water resistant.

                            2. In your scootie they're placed inside the front shell, so it'll be real hard for water to enter.

                            • Guys,

I went to one of the popular scooter garages in my city, and got a little confused.

We are talking about Roots Windtone, but which model should I get fitted ? The scooter guy had Roots Windtone 75 and Windtone Super both available for Rs. 560 each. He had Bosch relay for Rs. 90 and another "chalu local" relay for Rs. 50. Is Bosch relay good ?

Also, I went to a car garage/shop, and he had Roots Windtone 90 for Rs. 550, but when I told him whether he'll install it in my Activa and whether he had a relay, he denied that and told me to take my Activa to a "scooter shop".

So, what do you guys suggest ? Windtone 75, Super, or 90 ? and how is Bosch Relay for Rs. 90 ? or should I insist on Roots relay ?
