pathetic service most of the times and you have to literally shout at them or escalate teh issue to honda (like i have a few times) for them to do things properly.
They've Nicked my aviator's scerws ! 5 of them ! And I've saw them using my friend's Activa for bringing stuff form their Head ASC to the branch.

      • Hey guys,

I need your help. My Activa is due for its fourth service and it currently stands at 11000 km. It's an Activa DX (manufacture date March 2011). On its third service (close to 5800 kms), I had changed the engine oil and had used Motul 3000 4T Plus (20W40). Now the problem is, Motul oil is nowhere to be found The dealership from where I had bought it last has closed and I checked the nearby TWO CITIES also, and Motul oil is no where to be found All I could find was...

        1. Veedol 4T Plus 20W40.
        2. Gulf Pride 20W40.
        3. Shell Advance 20W40.
        4. Castrol Activ 4T (for Activa), 20W40.
        5. Honda Oil 10W30.

One of above 3 had "synthetic blend" written on it, although I don't remember which brand. So which oil would you guys recommend me to use since I can't find Motul anywhere

I need this info as soon as possible, as I have already given my Activa for service and will be picking it up today in the evening and need to purchase the oil and get it changed by the mechanic while picking up the Activa from the service garage.

Thanx a lot in advance for any info. Desperately waiting for a reply

this might a bit late for help now..(since you might have picked up the scoot already)
you can stick to honda oil (but always better to get the oil from the sealed bottle than from those drums)
i have personally used honda oil(not the 10w30 but the older 20w40), castrol activ (not the newer scooter oil) and shell ax5 -- the best imo was shell ax5
i am skeptical about castrol due to the fakes.. but from what my mech says the newer castrol scoot oil is good.

since winter is around the corner, you can safely go with the 10w30 honda (and its also the recommended grade for the 110cc activas). and during summers (after march upto Aug) you can switch over to 10w40 or 20w40 from shell.

            Hi,

Thanx for the input. Yeah, it's a tad bit late :P Picked up Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20w40, and so far, it's working great This time, I'll make sure to change the oil precisely at 2500 kms

                  • Hi Guys
New in this wilderness. We have a Honda Activa at home - which was being used by my brother and sisters. Long story short - it has not really been serviced for over an year ... the sound is all messed up, dont think it gives anything above 30kmpl, to start the scooter you need to hold the choke down ... and worst of all - nobody at home really knows what has been done and what has not been really done during the last services.

So my question - I am looking for a good mechanic in around Chennai to service it. Advice.

first check if the engine oil is at the correct level! if not change/add oil ! there is mech in tnagar who works on only scoots, and his name is Basha and his workshop is located on the stretch between valluvar kottam and kodambakkam bridge (were you will find a few mechs along this stretch, right around the area were they sell those mud pots) , but i think this will far from your location tambaram.
one other thing you can do is go to a honda ASC and request/befriend them to make them work on your scoot properly

                      • Help

Some issues are with my dio.

1: Front wheel slightly wobbles when travelling with pillion. When i stop for a while & twist the throttle on lower speeds i find this problem.

2: Blinkers always on when you switch on either side(all four bulbs working fine). No flashing at all. What could be the problem?

                        Mileage check.
Last odo reading with tank full on shell normal fuel- 23,232 km. I fill it when the fuel needle on the last of red bar.
Current reading with tank full on shell normal fuel- 23,557 km.
So overall i have covered 325km. Divided it by 5l i am getting 65 kmpl ?

Pls help me out with these calculations.

                        Usage-
                        City use only.
                        Riding between 40-50kmph.

correct tire pressure front & rear_25-30(solo) 35(with pillion)
                          1. Since your tire pressures are correct (maybe increase the front to 28 - i find this perfect) , is the tire in good condition ? and hopefully no rim bend.
you can also ask your mech to check and tighten the steering stem nut (also get the coneset checkd)
get the front wheel bearings checked

                          2. If one of the bulb's is fused then the indicator on the speedo console will stay lit up. But since you say the bulbs are fine, i would suspect the flasher unit or the wiring

                          3. Mileage check.
Which model dio do you own ? The new 109cc one or the older 102cc ?
                          New model (109cc) tank capacity = 5.3l
                          Old model (102cc) tank capacity = 6l

And this is how you should calculate the mileage:
                          1. Tank full - note down the odo reading (A)
                          2. Ride for 200km over a week..
                          3. Tank full - note the odo (B) and the number of litres (C) it takes to the tank full.
Formula to calc mileage: (B-A)/C = mileage

Ideal city mileage for the old model is around 38-44kmpl.
The newer ones should return a FE between 44-52kmpl.
(maybe a bit more if tuned lean)

I wouldn't advise on changing the suspension setup. I find the current setup good enough, never had a problem with handling even on bad/bumpy stretches.
Check the mileage as mentioned by me in the previous post. The best mileage i had achieved on my Dio was 48kmpl on highway. In the city with some spirited accelerations and touching 75kmph every other day for a km or so, and regular traffic,i get 40kmpl consistently (43 if ridden like a uncle ) and oh, i weigh 81kgs :d

                              • 25,031 kms & counting

                                Hello Guys!
My Honda Dio 100cc have completed 25k in one year & seven months . Purchased it on April 2011 .

                                Reliability:
No doubt in this question. Honda is really good on reliability. I don't find any major problems till now.
Small issues: Tail lamp bulb gone by 12k, flasher/blinker set have gone just one thousand kms back(check my previous post)

                                Electrical:
The head lamp is inadequate Low beam is ok but when you switch on high beam, it's pointing the sky(when it's pointing the sky i remember the
                                'Twinkle twinkle little stars rhyme)

                                Mileage:
                                Giving 40-45kmpl.
When you take her on 60kmph she gave 35kmpl on the lowest fe. Keep her on 40-50 kmpl for better mileage.
Edit: 99% i feed her shell unleaded only. 1% rarely fill in bp or hp bunks.

                                Handling:
Handles like a dream in the scooter segment. Easily take it on corners. When i switched rear mrf to ceat tire, handling is mildly improved.

                                Brakes:
For scoot which gives decent feedback. When normal braking those 130mm drum brakes does job well but the panic braking is not that good. A disc brake would have been better.
                                Better than the suzuki access.

                                Ride :
No issues on clean tarmac but when you take it on broken roads, it's bumpy ride guaranteed. The link type suspension is not good for this light scoot.
Not advisable for 2 people ride.

                                Final impression:
If you love to zip zap the traffic were your home is located inside city, Look no further. Buy this light scoot for Looks, handling & decent power.
IMO You will love the dio when you are pissed off with geared bikes inside dense traffic.

                                Kms done: 25,031

                                Mileage:Highest 50 ,lowest 35

Max speed done till date: 65 kmph.

Longest Distance covered in a day: Almost 200km

Pros: Looks. Handling & decent power for city runabouts.

Cons: Better headlamps. Should have given a front telescopic suspension. Disc brake is needed for panic braking.

I wish this scoot comes with 125cc, lc, fi with 10-11ps, telescopic suspension & a disc brake at front.
