    • Can someone confirm what is the weight of the variator rollers on a honda dio (Jan 2007 model,102cc one)
I have seen the activa's corresponding part (at a regular spares shop and he wanst sure if dio used the same ones)and it said '11GR' (11 grams i assume).
But i think the dio has 10gram weights (because i have confirmation that the scv lead 100 UK model which is the same dio that's (was) exported to UK has 10gram weights)
The honda asc is as usual unhelpful and always 'no stock saar'
      Anyone??

not recommended, unless you are going to upjet, remove the airbox(and fit it directly on carb). And even if your going to do this, this looks like a cheap local make stuff that will definitely harm ur engine in the long run due to improper filtration. STAY AWAY.
If you want a tiny bump in performance, you can play around with the variator roller weight or install stiffer clutch /torque springs.

Did you read this Tech Talk with Mo! ?
To change them, you need to open the left hand side casing (which houses the variator/clutch & its springs/drive belt) and then change the rollers (you will have 6 of them)
Check if they have developed any flat spots (ideally they should be rounded, but they will develop flat spot[s] after a few 1000km.. ) mine have been the ones that came with the bike and they have run for 35k kms. And i noticed flat spots on them at 25k kms which have gotten more 'flat' and thus need change now. I got some rollers from the USA thru a friend, so i will experiment with some change in weights.
the performance increase will be small (mayb just a little more nippy in pickup) but at least will not damage the engine.

the closest alternative would be the wego... but it cant beat the activa's reliability!! you never know when the wego wud go off production or get an upgrade and then spares issues. the honda engines are bullet proof!! (if serviced & maintained regularly.. the honda ASC is another story ) and the activa has a higher resale value than a wego.
if you plan to keep the scoot for a loooong time, i suggest you getting the activa. if its only for 2-3yrs max then the wego..

Even I have the same question, but I would really suggest you to avoid the crappy "Zapper" series of Activa and get one of those more jagged ones (check the pic attached). I really hate the stock Zapper tyres that I got with my Activa. I've slipped quite a lot on these and have suffered a broken collar bone

I am still doing more research on Activa tyres and I do think these will give more grip.

I would really appreciate any more info on this matter from the more experienced xbhpians

Edit: The attached pic is of Nylogrip FE from the MRF website. It showed me these when I selected "Scooter" and "Activa" options. Here's the link...

Edit II: How about Ceat tyres ? The Ceat Secura Neo for Activa looks pretty good. Here's the link...

Ceat says it provides "Excellent cornering stability" This is exactly what I need. I've fallen from Activa mostly coz some ass*hole came in front of me out of nowhere and I had to apply the brakes real hard or try to take an immediate tight turn and fell. Also mostly coz I applied the front brakes and the front tyre turned and slipped

The zapper's 3.50 would cost you approx 1100rs + the tuff up tube around 320rs. The zappers are good in the dry but in the wet its a different story...(especially if you inflate the tires to more than the recommended, which most people do).
The tire from the mrf site for activa is from the older activa's that came with this tire (the current gen activa's come with the zapper's too). This tire is good too but the ceat ones you have mentioned are better.
Go for the ceat's with the tuff up tube (and keep the tube that comes with the ceat as a spare)... am due for a tire change for sometime now & will be going in for the ceat+tuff up combo this time..

Tell me about it. It was rainy season last year when I broke my collar bone coz some bastard autorickshaw driver just pulled a U turn on the road in front of me without looking and I had to apply the brakes real hard. I severely scraped my scalp and suffered collar bone fracture That asshole didn't even have the courtesy to stop. He literally ran away

Alright buddy, that's great. Do let us know for how much you got the Ceat tyres and if you got the Secura Neo model. Also, do we get some money for the old tyres ? Would really appreciate your input and your experiences with the Ceat ones.

                        Thanx a lot in advance

The last time i heard about the prices of the ceat almost 2yrs ago, it was around 650rs (while the zapper costed me almost 900rs without the tube)!! Yes, the ceat secura neo model is widely available and most of the activa's, kinetic honda's i see around and at my mechanics workshop run on ceat's..
I own a dio and i was skeptical about the ceat's cos they seem to have a bigger contact patch than the zappers.. so i thot they might affect the nippy pick up of my dio a bit so i went with the zappers the last time.
I have never fell down due to skidding but almost 'lost' the front end once during a turn, and i always slow down if its raining.

Money for the old tyre not sure.. maybe 100rs if its still in good shape.

I have completed my first 1000 kms day before yesterday on my aviator. The mileage I am getting now is around 42 -44 kmpl (Only city driving). The performance of the scooter is average, but the first servicing was terrible. They just washed, changed oil, some screw setting with carburetor and that's it. No air filter clean, no spark plug clean etc. I am facing some balancing issues, I don't know why? While taking a turn at very slow speed, applying very slight rear brake pressure, the front steering feels heavier or wobbles without pillion rider. Even after going through potholes, the same problem arises, the rear portion tends to wobble slightly,( Not with the case with WEGO). The tyre pressure are full according to manual. Starting issue is there, in morning. The rear suspension is very hard, big problem for pillion rider. The scooter engine is good, refined. The speedo needle constantly moves like jerking( no smooth movement ). The headlight brightness may be very very good, but the focus is very bad even after best adjustment, Can't see the road properly, ( Help needed for xenon light fitting, if applicable on aviator.)Will fit a Xenos Remote Lock FW 45 this saturday. Found a dealer in kolkata. I am not sure how much useful will it be... Help needed on this regard. The locks are not good, the keys just don't go in smoothly even after oiling. The front disc brake problem has gone a lot. The front wheel is moving a bit freely now, but it jams at a particular point and then again rotates freely. The Honda Servicing is really bad, The technicians just don't communicate with the customer properly, don't explain a problem thoroughly, etc. Didn't received the registration number yet after more than 1 month complete. Within 1 month, I am facing so many minor glitches, don't know what would happen after 2-3 years.
I personally wouldn't recommend anybody to go for Honda aviator, in kolkata, the roads are very very bad, no comfort, no good mileage, etc. Rather go for a bike with big wheels and good mileage, they are better in metro cities. I had driven Hero Winner for 5 long years, the scooter handling was far better than Aviator.

                              Regards,

                              Arindam Saha Choudhuri,

Wobbling of the Speedometer needle was also there in my 1 year old aviator from day 1, Honda guys are just worst in servicing They just washed my aviator in first service and in second sevice They scratched it in side and when i told them they backfired at me that the scratches were there when I dropped it off at service ! I made them replace the scratched side.
And after first service my aviator's power got really low, and honda guys couldnt solve it..... I just did some DIY Air Filter cleaning and Tuning of Carb and cleaned the Sparkplug and woosh ! it was running like new !

I do most of the service my self from then, its easy . And go to asc when I need to get something replaced !

I have even done LED mod in brakelight and removed the color of aviator's speedo Click image for larger version

+1 (most of the times even the washing is not done properly).. i have heard stories of them 'nicking' parts from newer bikes that come for service and replacing them on other scoots.. (i have seen them do this myself, when i had repeatedly complained that the rear brake was binding since after the third service ,and guess what when i went there again after a few days for poor mileage, we noticed that spring near the rear brake was missing and they just pulled it off another scoot that was there for service and fixed it on my scoot)
pathetic service most of the times and you have to literally shout at them or escalate teh issue to honda (like i have a few times) for them to do things properly.
