Yes it happens all the time when I try to start...recently I have changed air filter and spark plug.

The culprit was the leaking carburetor float bowl gasket .

That's a temporary solution for it and I'll be doing the carb overhaul pretty soon.

Check your Starter relay, it's located at the front right next to your battery.
Check the following for loose connections..
    *Starter relay connector
    *Battery terminals
    *Starter motor contacts
Ya I hv to check the relay..

    • Honda Activa vibrating @ 40, please help.

      Hi,

I recently purchased a second hand Activa (2009 new model, 110 cc) from Bikers Highway, Pune. Bikers Highway provides 6 months warranty and 1 free service. It was just 1 week old and i was on my way with my friend in pillion to purchase another Activa from Bikers Highway. The scooter ran smooth for around 15 kms and then suddenly started making weird sounds (ghar ghar sound), struggled to pull but somehow i managed to reach Bikers Highway. Since it had a six months warranty, they took it to their workshop to repair. After two hours they returned with my scooter and said the variator and rollers were damaged, in fact the workshop guy started accusing me and said you must be driving rough, or riding pillion too often or maybe using the brakes too much. I said it's only been one week and i drive it to my office which is only 6 kms away.

Although i got the scooter back and the sound has disappeared, there is a weird problem that i am facing. There is some vibration while i start the bike and open throttle, i have a bad steering ball bearing as well, i would be changing it soon. Could that be due to the bad steering cone set? This happens when i slow my bike on humps and again accelerate as well.

My bike runs ok till 40 and then it feels as if something is pulling it back, a frictional force (a slow ghar ghar feeling) as if something is being rubbed and then after 50 it disappears and the scooter runs smoothly. This is evident while riding single and with a pillion it becomes worse. It's more evident when i am going uphill. What should be the reason? Did the workshop guy use worn out rollers? Could this be due to the roller? I did not have that problem before he changed the rollers. My scooters pick up is okay and reaches 80+ as well. Mileage hasn't reduced as well.

      Kindly help me guys.

Go back a few pages, and read about the full variator/drive mechanism inspection and service video.
This video shows how to disassemble, inspect, and reassemble the CVT transmission systems popular on motor scooters. This includes the variator, rollers, dri...

        Tech Talk with Mo!

The above two will give you an idea of how the scooter works and what maintenance is needed. This is considering the bore/piston are in normal condition and the compression is good.

How many km has the scoot done so far ?
You will need to check the variator rollers, clutch shoes, clutch bell, springs (small and big), drive belt. These parts (except for the big spring) usually require replacement at around 30k km (but may last longer, depending on how the scooter was ridden)
Changing just the variator rollers, but running with a worn belt or clutch shoes/springs could cause poor pick up, sluggishness while climbing up hill, rpm's increasing but the speed not increasing proportionally and vibrations.

          Hi Guys,

I recently purchased a used Honda dio 2004 model which is in a good condition. I have some questions around the handling of my bike. Ive noticed that the rims are slightly bend and i also suspect that there are some alignment issues. The bike pulls towards the left while riding and also wobbles above 60kmph. The bike also feels scary while tilting it at any speeds. I'm looking forward to some valuable inputs from you guys. Thanks in advance

Ok, first determine which wheel is the problem. Put the scooter on its center stand, start it and then rev the engine, P.S make sure the rear wheel is off the ground . If its rotating in a in a proper manner when viewed from the back, then you can be almost 99% sure the front wheel is the problem. Also ask someone to follow you when you are riding the scooter and tell them to check if the front and rear wheels are aligned or are slightly displaced. These problems can be taken care of at any local workshop.

Bro i did exactly what u suggested me a few days ago. On center stand the rear wheel movement was shaky due to the bend rim im guessing. Also while i was getting my bike home from where it was purchased i was following my mechanic who was riding the dio. I did notice that both tires are not in the same plane. So could the fork be out or chasis bent? Im not sure please help and Thanks for your instant reply brother.

This is a common problem on scooters due to our bad roads.Since there is hardly any front suspension travel on scooters, the frame takes a lot of the impact. Get the bent wheels sorted out first. If there is still difficulty in handling the scooter, check to see if the forks are bent. Usually, when the forks are bent, the chassis may also be out of shape. Personally, I feel its not worth the time or effort to get a bent chassis sorted out on a 11 year old vehicle. Unless this is your daily driver and you need to take it out on the highway regularly, enjoy riding it for a few years and sell it. Just my view

I will do as u said taking one step at a time. I hope it gets sorted out before it reaches to the chassis. I bought this bike since i recently purchased the new pulsar 200rs and wanted to use this as a primary bike for short distances. I'm very particular about the handling department of a bike. I dont enjoy riding a bike even with the slightest of handling issues. Thus trying to fix this issue so i can enjoy riding my dio. Thanks for your reply bro and i really appreciate it.

Don't go as far as the chassis.. its very unlikely. These are the things you need to check:

                      1. tires - how old are they ? is there sufficient tread ? - If the tires are older than 3 years (even with sufficient tread left), i'd suggest you change them.
                      2. rim bend - get this sorted - or simply replace the rims for a peace of mind.
                      3. wheel bearings, front and back - highly recommended to have them changed since the scoot is 11yrs.
                      4. Cone set - If you find the front end 'lose' and there is play in the handle bar (hold the front brake and rock the scoot back and forth, you might feel a little play at the handle). But again since the scoot is 11yrs old, I'd suggest you have it replaced if the above 3 things don't fix your problem.
                      5. front and rear suspension might need replacement - can only tell by riding the scoot.
                      6. Finally the fork.. again a rare problem unless the scoot has been involved in a accident or ridden very rashly over bumps and potholes.

the wheel bearings and coneset will set you back by around 550rs each (including labor). try and get it done at the service center.

                          One sad news,

My Activa 2005 model got stolen, 12 days already past, already reported to police immediately after this incident.
Mostly my sister was riding all the time.
And just few months engine work was done. Infact , it was running better than new after such an excellent engine job.

                          2. He doesn't know where I live and my sister's workplace.
                          3. He earns 3-4 times more in a month than present value of Activa.

1% Probability can still be considered in the above case.

2 weeks back before incidence activa was serviced at Honda ASC. The service advisor was surprised to see the oil condition on 2800kms run oil. He said its just 700-1000km old and no need to change. So, I had to speak to him to change it.

                          10% probability to above.?

I am still waiting for police to start taking action. CC TV clip can be easily obtained for that parking area.

Update: Vehicle not found yet. Even police doesn't show any interest in this case. They don't bother to get CC camera clip.

According to them, generally there are 4 types of situations:
                          1. In most of the cases missing vehicle is found lying somewhere after fuel is over, when it's recovered the owner is usually informed within a month.
                          2. Vehicle is immediately sold to scrap for some few hundred to thousand bucks, where it is dismantled immediately within few hours.
                          3. An outside gang is involved in multiple vehicle thefts, who have their own Addas nearby hidden areas outside cities.
                          4. Individual thief, who will change the number and ride till the engine gives up or for some 6-12 months till he's caught.

1 is for lucky guys. 2 for most unlucky. 3 has quite chance of getting it back, as police may trace them down. 4 less chance but if found then its hard to restore back.

Considering, all the above circumstances, presently I would be happy to take Rs. 12,800 from insurance claim.

Finally, I assume that ownership of my Activa 2005 model ends now.

10 years short ownership experience/ review @ 57000 kms 100% city usage: (Few Highlights)
A sturdy built scoot with the most reliable HONDA engine, Very easy to ride in bumper traffic.. Only 1 breakdown when Ignition coil had failed.
Tata Battery had already completed 3yrs 8 months, which is highest of all other replacements.
10g variator rollers were just perfect to speed up 0-60.
Castrol Activ 4AT 10w30 is the best engine oil experienced after engine work.
Setting up proper valve clearances just do wonders. Needs to be checked frequently on older engines.

Been a while.. had my Dio serviced last week, after almost 9 months/3500km.
Was looking to replace the clutch shoes, since the scoot has done over 50k km. Now, the stock oem clutch shoe set cost around Rs.800 while the 'ASK' brand of clutch shoes cost a mere Rs.300. I decided to experiment and bought the ASK ones.. These don't come with springs and had to buy the 3 springs for 30rs. Also picked up an original air filter and this time went in for the motul 3000 20w40 oil.
during service, the mechanic chided me for buying the ASK clutch shoes and said that I should have got the original ones. These did feel a wee bit heavier than the oem ones that were removed from my scoot. And the metal finishing had some extra casting burrs that had to be chipped off using a screwdriver. He also told me that the stock ones come with the springs and three tiny rubber washers.. I told him chalo lets put these in and see how it goes.
Next came the shock, while replacing the air filter we noticed that the new one was not aligning with the screw hole on the air filter box. He immediately told me that this is a fake filter that was packed in original packing !! On inspection we could clearly see the difference between the original and the one i had bought.. the 'markings' were correct, but the metal parts on the filter appeared badly made of thin aluminum. So we just moved it sideways a bit and plonked it in since the old one was way too dirty. this is the spares shop where I have bought spares earlier including air filters for my dio in the past, but guess i was ripped off this time.
Will need to get hold of the original air filter soon and replace it.
Finally poured in 800ml of motul 3000 (270rs per litre after discount)

took the scoot for a spin and everything seemed ok.. been a week now and I feel that the Castrol gearless scoot oil (20w40 or 10w30) helps the bike rev a little better compared to the motul. Even the shell ax5 20w40 that i used earlier was great, but the motul.. nah, i wouldn't use it again on this scooter but will continue to use the 7100 on my Duke. Maybe the next time will get Motul's gearless scooter oil if available or stick to Castrol's gearless scoot oil 10w30 since the scoot is now only used for short runs/errands.
