Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
Hello all,
1. I own a 2010 Honda activa deluxe and a 2011 Honda dio. Both crossed around 4-5k kms after the last service. Iam thinking about doing the next vehicle service myself for both the vehicles. As both are currently having no other issues what periodic services should i do other than changing engine oil and gear oil?
2. And also what brand and type of engine oil is recommended?
-Thanks.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
Clean / replace air filter if needed. And at every 8k interval, i'd suggest you open the left side case and inspect clean out the drive components such as variator plate, roller, drive belt, clutch shoes, springs etc.. if you are not familiar with what am saying, then i suggest you watch someone do it first before you start monkeying with the tools)Originally posted by Alfinwilliam View PostHello all,

Here is what I mean (similar setup to most of these scoots): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EjW-iSP-Q8
Engine oil, motul / castrol gearless scooter engine oil 10w30, or 10w40/20w40 regular motorcycle oil from brands like shell, veedol, motul. I haven't had issues with any brand as long as the oil is replaced at around 3000km intervals. And remember these scoots take in around 700~800ml max during a refill, so don't over fill it.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
I have an aviator 2014(110cc).
Its only above 50kmph the scooter feels smooth. Below this mark its engine feels rough and coarse.
Feels as though the engine breaking(on de acceleration) is bit too much.
The oil has been replaced recently.
It has done about 20000 kms now.
What could be the cause?

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
What is the history of the scooter ? If it was neglected earlier and suddenly one decides to change oil/service, it might not always fix some issues where the damage has already been done.Originally posted by baymax View PostI have an aviator 2014(110cc).

Watch the video in previous post and get those parts checked/replaced if needed.
In short, drive belt should be in good shape, the rollers shouldn't have too much of a flat spot on them, clutch shoes should have enough material on them and not worn thin.
Replace the gear box oil also.
Replace air filter if you haven't in the past.
Next have the valve clearances checked and adjusted to spec.
If the carburetor has been fiddled with in the past (or never been cleaned), get it cleaned and adjusted at the svc or by a mechanic who works a lot on these scooters.

The oil has been replaced regularly by the previous owner, and me too changed it once i bought it just for mind sake.
Together with the oil change the svc guys replaced the engine mounts, spark plug and airfilter.
The scooter had a slight handle bar sway for which they replaced the cone set, but still its not perfect.
I think the transmission oil is untouched and due replacement. How much would it cost?

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
The gearbox holds around 100~120ml oil. Get a half litre bottle of either castrol or mak (available at most bp petrol bunks) EP90 oil, and half a litre iirc will cost you around 120~150 rs.. and it will last you 4 oil changes.Originally posted by baymax View PostThe scooter was bought second hand recently.

Never buy gear oil that's sold by local 'brands' in pouches.. get a branded one in a bottle as mentioned and for peace of mind change it every service or once in 6-8 months.
As for the coneset, try to get the steering nut adjusted (sometimes it takes a couple of adjustments to get it right). If it still doesn't fix it, it could probably be that it was either not installed correctly (the race needs to be seated flush and flat with the steering stem, some mechanics just don't bother to ensure that its seated correctly and not at an angle).
Apart from that, perform the inspections i mentioned in my earlier post.Last edited by s1d; 10-27-2016, 11:32 AM.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
My Activa will be completing 15 years shortly. Scooter has given me excellent service and I plan to retain it for as long as possible. I gave it a total makeover 2 years ago. Only bad part is the front suspension. It would be nice if it had the fork and disk set up from the Aviator. How much would the cost be for the:
1. Disk brake kit
2. Front forks
3. Alloy wheels
5. Front mudguard
I am also planning to pick up an old Dio (2008) which has just done 16K kms. He's quoting 18K but I have offered 15K.

The idea seems cool, but you would probably have to spend a lot (around 6k or above),you could get used parts from scrap centers at much lower rate.Originally posted by P3T3R View PostMy Activa will be completing 15 years shortly. Get a 10 inch alloy wheel from Yamaha ray zr. (12 inch alloys found in most scooters,if used might upset the equilibrium of your activa as it comes factory fitted with a 10 inch wheel)Last edited by sarinsari92; 12-11-2016, 09:42 PM.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
make sure the body panels are in good shape. A full set of panels will set you back by at-least 12k.Originally posted by P3T3R View PostI am also planning to pick up an old Dio (2008) which has just done 16K kms. He's quoting 18K but I have offered 15K.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
Are you sure? When the Dio was launched they were Rs.800/- but within a few months they increased to around Rs.2500/- or so. Even now Safex bikes is selling the whole set for around Rs.2900/-.Originally posted by s1d View Postmake sure the body panels are in good shape. The coloured panels are all ok except for a bit of fading and scratches. The black portion below the seat is faded and near the rear footrests there are minor cracks. Other than that the front tyre is almost bald. Rear tyre is brand new, battery and horn replaced and insurance renewed 3 days ago.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
Yes, back in 2007 when i got my dio, the entire panel set (excluding the black plastics, i.e. center/underseat black plastics) was around 2000rs.Originally posted by P3T3R View PostAre you sure? It had then shot up to 8k and now is about 12k (last year when i checked)
I don't think safex sells it at 2900 for the entire set, even their prices are around the oem prices. Check their website. Just the front upper panel(the one you remove to access the battery) costs Rs.1500 on safex.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
I have seen a Dio (old) with both the alloys of an Aviator along with the telescopic forks and Disk Brake kit.Originally posted by MR ACE View PostI have a doubt. The rear tyre of avaitor is same as dio's front & back. Is it possible to fit the alloy wheel on the dio on front & both?

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
For gear oil, you can pick up the Castrol GL4 or MAK spirol ep 90 (easily available at most bharat petroleum petrol bunks). Just ask for "90 gear oil" and use only reputed brands and not local stuff that's sold in pouches.Originally posted by GJYOUNGISTAAN View Postso got castrol active scooter oil for change today.
also want to change the gear oil. any suggestions for this.
The scoot takes in around 120ml of gear oil, so get a half litre bottle and it will last you long time.
Why are you skipping the services at the asc? I'd say you do atleast the first two services at the asc in your presence.
