First of all,Congrats for your new bike! Enjoy and Ride Safe! Just follow my tips :

After getting the bike, keep it below 40km/h till first 1000kms.Your engine is new and will need some time for settling.Do the First oil change @ 150kms,then @ 500kms and then @ 1000kms. You can do max 60km/h after 500kms.Service center may not do oil change at these intervals,so get the oil changed from a good local trusted mechanic. Just an oil change, dont do any other things and never say this to Service center, they wont give you warranty, use oem oil from Yamaha itself. .

Also better if you get a saree guard,it can protect your bike from damages caused by falls. My Personal Experience.

        • Hi Aneesh, thanks for the tips bro. I'll surely follow all your instructions, except for 40kmph till 1000km. I really don't think I can keep myself at 40kmph. I average around atleast 55kmph in my TVS XL Super. But I'll try my best to keep it under recommended speed. I know a mechanic from quite long time. He has kept my moped in good condition for these years. So I'll get oil changes at proper intervals.

Oh I almost forgot Saree guard, it is a must for me. As I'll be driving with my mom many times.

Ideally, you may need to check the RPM. Speed is a factor which is variable. I normally keep myself below 4500 RPM Km untill 500 and then keep below 6000 RPM untill 1000 Km.

The Yamaha User Manual also say the same. If you dont have a Tachometer, then you would have to depend on Speedometer (keeping the speed in 40~50 Km/Hr.

Basic Idea - Stick to Basics during the first 1000 Kms. Follow the instructions given by the manufacturer.

Because the Motorcycle engines normally sets with in 1K. For Car Engines, its already set by company itself (computer controlled run in period). So u dont need to worry about the run in period. You can see that, cars are getting oil change in 10K.

It is going to be a big leap from TVS XL to Yamaha SZR.

            Enjoy Biking.

Sometimes engine wont settle @ 1000kms,So usually some people follows runin period till 2000kms for future engine life and mileage! So you saying that only one oil change is needed @ 1000kms?

Hi guys, good morning to you all. I need color suggestion for buying SZ-R. I want to know, which color, black or blue has better lifetime in long run. I mean which one don't fade out easily and retain its quality? Personally I like both of them and the decision will be made on how they look after few years.

It is a very personal choice when it comes to the color of a bike. The truth is all colors will fade if exposed to sunlight for long time. So the question is which color will look better even after the prolonged exposure to sunlight.

The quality of paint also matters a lot. I have seen splendors (red ones) which have faded to the core..

I also own a Honda Unicorn, which is almost 7 years old. The paint is intact.

With Yamaha, the paint quality is of high standard and there is very minimal fading effect.

However, my personal choice was Black when I selected the bike. The reason was because of reduced fading effect.

It was also matching with the engine and alloys..

Again, color is a personal choice.

There is a flip side to Black - it will get heated very fast as black color will not disperse light. It absorbs the heat.

So theoretically, the petrol vaporization is more in black color. Practically, I have not noticed a big problem.

SZ-R is a beauty in any color. Hats off to the designers. A perfect bike after Honda Unicorn in Indian 150 CC Segment.

                          Enjoy Biking

My bike have 1 liter of fuel in it, and fuel indicator shows empty . Dont worry, it has 2 liter of reserve capacity. One thing for sure, Yamaha made this gem of a bike but completely screwed up in Fuel Gauge thing

About oil change, stick to the manual and service schedule. Your bike will be fine. Make sure you read entire manual. Keep posting your experience

Not only the guage the tanks also faulty. Run up the bike till the bike stops and shake the bike and you'll see that theres still some fuel remaining in the tank... But unusable.

Try pulsar tankpads. Though cheap they'r worth it. Am using it on my ZMA. And they also look hot.

Ex-showroom price according to Yamaha site is 56K. I think the on-road price is too high. Please tell me the most recent price in Karnataka. I may be purchasing in a week or two.

In yamaha bikes the 1st gear is abit above than the rest, so you'll find it easy to learn. Unlike my zma in which we'd get mixed up.

Do an oil change at 150kms(While keeping speeds below 60). Then at 500kms(While keeping speeds below 80) and then at 1500kms(By the time you'r doing this. You'l be touching 100~110).
The above's a form of hybrid run-in not too soft not too harsh, just perfect for a new bike.

Blue's just right. Cause black or blue has a tendency too loose the bling, check out FZ's which are more than a year old and you'll know what I mean.

Congrats. And since its you'r first time riding a geared bike SZ-R's the best choice, cause the engines just perfect. You can even stop and then start riding even in 5th gear, theres no engine knocking and theres not even any slack. So in short its almost automatic.
