since ma bike is new just 350km....bought before 2 weeks
i once went above 80km/hr will it cause any problem......upto what speed can i go during run in?

    • ^^^Fuel gauge is not very accurate at least for me... N i don really know what each division represents... I just use it to see when it comes close to Empty so that i can fill again... N it would be recommended to keep below 50 or so...

What other options do I have? Castrol?
man there's no probs. in that... i have FZ and the recommended grade is 20W40, but i am using 15W40 Semi.syn.(recommended oil for R15)... one must only check whether its xW40 it means don't go for xW50 or xW30, you can easily use it... my roommate has Gladi and he's using this oil for ages...

Hey Buddy, I saw the Yamalube semi synthetic container and it was written 15w50 on it and not 15w40.

I was told that Yamalube semi synthetic does not come in 15w40 grade. I think both of you must be using 15w50.

          • ^^^You can try Agip if you can find stock of it... Don no if it has a semi-synth xW40 version... But it does have a fully synth one which i am currently using on my bike... You can check if they do have a semi- synth... After using the synth for around 3500km now... I am greatly satisfied with it...

            • Yamaha Gladiator SS

I think during run in period upto 1500 kms i have read people suggesting to ride in max of 40 kph and within the 4000 rpm range..

my gladiator ss is new and right now i face the first problem which is nothing but rusting of washers holding the engine head and also the metal base which holds the twisted metal tube. it also showed signs of rust..

the speedometer needle is not accurate and shows signs of the psrng being weak as to the rpm needle which is smooth and accurate..

Ride as such is smooth.. how to deal with these problems.. when asked in the showroom service center they just shrug their shoulders and claim why i dint notice while taking delivery..

NO buddy its 15W40 itself which is the oil for R15, costs 415Rs/-(in kerala)...
go to the SVC and ask for R15 engine oil which is Semi syn. version... 100% true...

                  Hi Sriram,

Congratulations on your buy... Which city are u from??
I am greatly surprised that the service center guys are acting so indifferent about your bike and actually telling that you should have noticed all this while taking delivery... They in the first place should see to that the product they are delivering to their customer has no faults... Tell them that you are going to complain to consumer courts and higher authorities in Yamaha... Do complain to higher authorities Yamaha about this carelessness... Such attitude in my opinion should not be tolerated...

                    Hi Prashanth,
I am from Blore too. Where did you buy AGIP engine oil?

He quoted almost the same price too! Infact I bought it and then saw the grade - 15w50. And returned it. He said only 20w40 and 15w50 Yamalubes are available. But as you said I will ask for R15 engine oil.

                        • Bahh.....I am switching back to Motul whichever grade it comes in as soon as I can lay my hands on a bottle in Lucknow. The 5100 in 15W50 had the bike running much smoother for longer periods as compared to Castrol Power One especially in the summer. Will be raiding the Bajaj Probiking SC for anything Motul in XXW40 grade.
The current Yamalube mineral oil is just crap.Avoid. One of my friend got my bike serviced at a new Yamaha SC and they used the normal oil in bike. Now I am stuck with it for 2000kms.

                            Hi prashanth

Thanks for your concerns... i hail from chennai.. when i took delivery it was in a bit of a hurry so the tyres were poorly inflated///

can you check out the picure i have attached and marked the areas of corrosion... can we go ahead n ignore it or demand them to do a workaround during first service

your help is greatly appreciated... by the by what model of vehicle is yours and since when you r using it

pl check my pic and let me know... thanks in advance

                            • ^^ I cannot see the corrosion clearly in the pics... But i'm guessing most of the rust would be surface rust as the bike is new... So ask the sc to polish n scrape the rust off, they do this usually using a steel wool...

N one more thing is being from chennai i feel that there are greater chances that you face this rust problem often, as it is a coastal city... i know they do anti rust coating for under chassis of cars... So you can try that for your bike too...

N also, if Yamaha SC is not ready to deal with the rust, you should surely complain and not ignore it... Especially because the bike has not even crossed the run in period and already you are getting rusting...

N my bike is the same red/black gladiator as yours... Its a July 2008 model...

                              • Gladiator ss queries

                                Hi Prashanth

First of a big thanks to you for taking the time and looking into the picture,. i was quite concerned about this as it is a critical part in the engine rather than a stray nut holding somewhere in the rear... I will post a high resolution pic so you can compare your vehicle also and let me know about it..

As you gave me a advice i will try asking those guys to remove it if possible or else dont know whether to go ahead and complain and whom to complain is all a question now..

I am in the run in period and clocked 200 odd kms and riding in the 0 to 40 kph range and keeping the engine under 4000 rpm rev range.. did you maintain the same things.

What maintenance routine do you follow.. are you a mechanic yourself for small things like chain greasing, handle barf alignment etc??

i found a list of yamalube made fluids to be applied for various critical areas in the vehicle.. Will share you that info..

How much have you clocked and what top speed have you touched till now? what about color fading? chennai is hot through out year and i fear the red fading soon? thanks a zillion again for reading,, and commenting..

Wish we form one hell of a team to maintain our bikes in pristine condition !! What say you ?
