  • Hey guys,

Serviced my bike yesterday.... Filled in Agip Synthetic Oil 5W40 grade again... The service was done well.... Except i'm getting an annoying sound from the bike... Most probably the front tyre... Have to check that out... Bike is building revs nicely now...

@Rookie: The oils is good for around 5000km... So changing the oil at alternate services should be ok...

      Hi frnds,

Just want to know how safe to switch from our bikes recommended grade oil 20W40 to other grades like above mentioned 5W40

What is the difference between these grades and is that fine to change the grades for long run. I may get answers for these questions from Universal Threads -> Engine Oil.

But dont have that much time to check now. Sorry, if anyone can provide the information... appreciated!

      Cheers.

You can just switch from a 20W40 to a 5W40 grade... or any other grade... There is no method to it... Make sure that you get XW40 grade... Some people do put XW50 grade oil in the gladi... But i'm not sure if it is good as the oil is thicker...

What matters is if the oil is mineral, semi synth, or synth...
What we usually get put in our bikes at service centers under normal service is mineral oil...
So if you have to switch from mineral to semi synth or synth, you can either flush the engine... Or change the newly put oil earlier than usual... So that most of the mineral oil deposits come out...

there is an even better idea

we should first upgrade from mineral to semi synth. & use it in two services & then upgrade to fully synthetic
actually the symthetic oils hav agents for reducing friction for which our engine is not ready but if we put the semi synthetic the oil would not hav to much of friction reducing agents so it would adjust for the synthetic oil usage.

              • Hi Madhav,

I think my mahcine resmbles you in behavior.. Do you observe this sound even when you increase the rpm to around 2.5k to 3.5 -- 4k rpm ?

When i do this , sound ceases.. altogether.. wondering what could it be? Let me know about it..

                Thanks

                          • ^^ Cant help the scratches on the tank... Very irritating... Black is prone to scratches being seen... Polish helps to a certain extent...

N all three of us ( me, sriram n you) have red black gladi's...

                            • @madhav and sriram: Is the squeeking sound very loud on your bikes?? I tried to see if i could hear it on my bike... And had to get really close to the engine for it to be possible to listen to hear a very very faint squeek...

actually the sound is very eventual ...that means the squeking can be heard sometimes & sometimes not.
