    • Gladi vs glamour

I drove a HH glamour today, which had clocked 3000kms.

With a pillion rider, the pickup was good and the low end torque was pretty much better compared to our gladi?

What could be the reason? The engine block is same around 125 cc only as against our 123.7cc with a 4 speed gearbox...

But the gearshift was no way in comparison to ours....

      • ^^^Well the characteristics of both the bikes are different though both of them are 125cc bikes...
The glamour makes its peak torque somewhere around 4000rpm as opposed to the gladi who makes it at around 6500rpm...
The gearing also plays a roll... The glamour has 4 gears which are pretty short in comparison to the gladi... Thus making it a better city bike than the gladi because of better low and mid range pull... And thus looses out on top end i think which is around 94kmph...
Gladi has a taller gearing... Its peak torque and power are at a much higher rpm than the glamour... Gives the gladiator a good top end... Around 108kmph...

If you want better low end pull from the gladi, you can try changing the sprockets... I dont know how many teeths etc as i have never experimented on this myself... But top end will surely be lost and maybe also a bit of mileage...

          +1 to that.

the glamour is not as sporty as much as gladiator. the gladiator can be used for some fun biking & lil bit racing but the same cannot done with the glamour. the glamour is a strictly city bike made for easy driving in cities & better mileage. both are very good in their places.
Well I dont want to comment too much on the glamour bcoz i have neither owned it neither i am too experienced in these matters but I have surely ridden my friends glamour
NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

          • Engine oil Review

Changed engine oil to Yamalube 20w40 SG, the engine feels much smoother now.
So IMO the best mineral engine oil for gladi that I have tried is

            1.Yamalube 20w40 SG , 2.Yamalube 20w40 SL ,3.Shell Advanced 20w40 and
            4.Castrol Active 20w40
Personally I feel SG/MA grade oil is better for Gladi than SL/MA2 grade oil.Even though SL/MA2 grade oils are suppose to have friction reducing agents it does not work that well with gladi.

I have heard that Motul 20w40 also is also good but they just had 900 ml cans

            • ^^^ Thanks for the review Arun. Wats the difference between the Yamalube SG and SL?? Are both of them mineral oils??

P.S: Checked my bike mileage in mixed riding conditions which included Bangalore traffic jams and also smooth cruising on inner ring road and old madras road. Not a very accurate check but nevertheless the difference will be + or - 3kmpl max. The bike returned 57-60 kmpl and there is still a little fuel left in the tank.

              • @Prashanth: SL oils contain lower levels of ZDDP , and also has some friction reducing agents and theoretically would give you better mileage. The relatively more ZDDP in SG grade gives you smoother engine and also clutch slippage will be less.

Most of the 20w40 engine oil now are SL or MA2.

                • Thanks for the explanation Arun. Jus checked and my oil is also SG grade.

                      • Hi All,

It might sound like a silly question or even some of you will say that why on you need it?

I would like to know whether Gladi can have complete chain cover? I mean there is no chain guard for this bike, and is it possible to have a complete chain guard for this bike?

                        Cheers mates!

Yes, it should be possible to have a complete chain cover. Older gladis have them.

                          • @ r00kie & prince.of.united : I doubt that because the slot where you fasten the chain cover is missing on RS and SS models.

                            • @prince: I think it will be possible. Maybe some welding n stuff might have to be done... I don know how it has to be done though. Only reason i'm saying its possible is i have seen a SS with a full chain cover in bangalore.

                              • Some 3 grease monkeys three of them without license came and rammed in my back hitting the pointed fiber tail piece hard, causing it to get scratched and right now it shakes as it has become loose...

Is there a hinge mechanism to fasten it, how do i tight it, ? i guess its roken from the inside... pl. explain if you know how the tail piece is fixed if any one of you had worked on it
