  • TIK TIK NOISE FROM ENGINE AT A SPEED HIGHER THAN 55-60Km/HR

    hi folks....

i am having an issue.... my bike yamaha gladiator type-ss

7 month old .... actually the problem is related to tappet setting

the mechanic told me that in summer u should loosen the tappet..

and also he changed the idle RPM of engine to 1100 ...

hence i am facing the problem at a speed greater than 60KM/hr

the ghungaru(tik tik noise) like sound coming from engine .... plz suggest something ... he(mechanic) is right ???oil has been changed last month only.. even after reporting this problem to him5 days back...setting done properly ..but the same issue ..he says it is because of heated engine . ..plz suggest solution over this

    • ^^^ Go to another mechanic n get the tappets set... See if the problem persists... N i don think the summer has much to do with tappets...

Second choice is Honda Unicorn and third one is pulsor 150 .. Which one should i buy and what is the exact milage of gladiator,Unicorn and Pulsor in Bangalore city condition.

        • @ CHETZ: Depending on Riding style and maintenance of the bike gladi can give anything from as low as 40 to as high as 65... An average mileage therefore from the bike would be around 55-58 or so...

Unicorn i believe should give around 55 or so in city riding conditions. Again as with all bikes riding style and how the bike is maintained will play a roll...

Pulsar also should be able to give around 50 or so in city riding conditions.

For me, this decision would boil down to how much you would be willing to spend. I mean the cost of each bike.

As he is a salesman and does a lot of riding around the city. Also the riding posture and ergonomics will come into play.

From the three you have mentioned i would advise you to go for the Unicorn. More power and good mileage and also very comfortable.

One more thing i would like to mention is maintenance will be needed for all bikes. The regular services have to be done.

One more thing is that. If mileage and low maintenance are a priority. Then you can look at few of the HH bikes likes ambition, splendour etc. They will not disappoint in these areas.

Thank You very much PRASHANTH LOBO for your valuable information.

He has very strong personality, weight arround 80 kg and hight arrond 5.10" so cant go for HH
otherwise i strongly agree with your sggetion. What is your openion?

Intial cost is not a problem for me.

As u discussed about posture and ergonomics ,which one is good?

Please suggest me the best option in those three bikes , i will go for that bike only.

            Thanks and regads

i dont think i need to explain you anything as prasanth has explained everything about the bikes you have mentioned. But I would suggest say that the final fight would be in between the unicorn & the gladiator. Both have a comfortable ride posture & a smooth engine. The gladiator being a 125cc would surely have an upper hand in the mileage. But the unicorn is backed with honda service centres which are in a pretty good numbers when compared with the yamaha service centers. Being a 150cc the unicorn has got a good power. The unicorn has a good mileage when compared with the other 150cc's. The claim made by the overdrive india on gladiator's mileage is 70 kmpl overall. I even accept that in our riding styles the mileage can change drastically also

I have not included any of the bajaj bike (p150) because i strongly feel & experienced the low quality of bajaj (personal opinion & experience & not directed towards anyone). So If you want a low maintenence bike then the bajaj might not be your cup of tea.

If you buy a gladiator then the cost difference in the price of unicorn & gladiator can be saved & be used in the petrol or something else.
I think i have explained everything . So take your pick

Riding posture etc is what makes ergonomics... Its is how well a machine is made to fit a man... Well from your given options i still think that Unicorn is a good option... I would't want to confuse you more but GS150R is another good option. I'm picking Unicorn over the gladiator because of the following reasons...

The difference between Unicorn's Mileage and Mileage given by Gladiator on average would be about 5-6kmpl... On the long run it wont make a lot of difference...

For example: Think if Unicorn gives around 53kmpl average...
For 1000kms you will need around 18.9 liters of petrol which will cost around Rs. 1037
If we take gladiator as giving an average of 58kmpl
For 1000kms you will need around 17.24 liters of petrol which will cost around 948...
The difference is less than 100 rupees... Which i would say is minimal for the extra power and the Honda Reliability...

Also the Unicorn will be a better city bike than a gladiator in my opinion... Both are relatively sluggish in lower gears... But it will be less noticeable on the Unicorn

Got confused because there are so many HH bikes in that segment... I meant Passion... Now i guess its Passion Pro or Plus or something

consider the difference in the pricing of the bikes too....then the result is the difference in the bike pricing plus the fuel costing.....

and as far as reliability is concert...Yamaha is something which can be trusted closed eyed....guess u won't disagree on that....

yes the honda & yamaha are very reliable.

in the mileage part also if driven conciously as i hav mentioned already in my previous posts it can return around 65kmpl. My gladiator was giving around 60kmpl when i tested in city driving conditions where there was frequent braking & clutch usage my bike was returning 60kmpl

                      Hi Chetz,

I would recommend you SUZUKI'S "GS150R".iTS THE BEST COMMUETR in the 150cc segment. The main +point is comfort which is important in case of your daily commuting.....apart from it, it delivers good mileage of 55km in city(optimal riding)..And please check the following link...it wil clear all the air.

                      brothers in arms

Please do test ride of all the above and go with your heart.......

Initial cost was not a problem for him so i didnt factor that... Yes, there would be a difference if i factor initial cost and not only running costs...
If money is initially available then i would recommend going for a 150cc any day over a 125cc... Especially with the kind of mileage bikes like Unicorn and GS150R are giving... N when we compare Yamaha and Honda in India... On the reliability front i would still go with a Honda

                          Hi guys,
I'm planning to buy the Yamaha gladiator(gonna be my first bike) , the Yamaha dealer that I have here has told me that the ss type is out of production and that new graphics are gonna come on the bike. Do you guys have any idea about these new graphics. Also any tips for a first time biker. lol. I hope I have a good experience with the bike.Do the yamaha guys sell good helmets?
I would rather be riding my bike thinking of God, than sitting in the temple thinking of my bike.

So the gladiator is going to have another makeup. this can be a very interesting news. Have to see if the new graphics are good than the previous one. I dont have any idea about the graphics maybe others can help you out. I am sure you would love the bike by the way it handles & it is a perfect bike for newbies.

I dont know if the yamaha guys have a good helmets or not but i know this much that they have very stylish & very high priced helmets.

I am very dissapointed that the yamaha has learned nothing from bajaj or from its success of R15. It should launch a good 4-valve bike & not redress it's old bike. I hope that it is not launching the same old gladiator with no difference in the engine.

I'm guessing there is no difference in the engine though a 4 valve engine would make a really good addition(I'm new how does the 4 valve engine excatly help?)

whoaaa the bike is looking very cool & i loved the colours.

Actually in conventional indian bikes we use 2 valve engine which means there are two ports on the engine cylinder or i would say 2 holes. One hole(port) is for the fuel to enter the engine cylinder & the other hole is for the exhaust gases to go out after burning. In a 4 valve engine there are 4 holes over the engine cylinder 2 for the fuel to enter & 2 for the exhaust gases to go out. Due to the 4 holes instead of 2 the engine can now take in more fuel efficiently(more fuel=more power) & can evacuate the exhaust gases faster & easily. Due to the 4 valve the engine can do the combustion faster & efficiently. So a 4 valve engine can be revved to much higher rpm which is not possible on 2 valve bikes. The pulling power(torque) also increases due to this system.
