I have always been a yamaha fan because of their reliable engines...

N Congratulations i see that you are going for the R15... Its on my list of want to have bikes too... Someday

What about riding conditions there?? you said having alloys wont be very nice because of bad roads... R15 is not the best on bad roads...

Which colour are you goin for?? I am in love with the Yellow R15....
The engines are reliable, there's no doubt about that. It's the small niggling issues that crop up time to time that bother me.
I wont be selling my Gladiator and will be using it to go to my college everyday. That's where the bad roads are. In any case,it's too good a bike to be sold. She is my babe now. Permanent one.
The R15 would be for city blasting, occasional touring and pose value. I had decided to go for the P220 but one look at the R15 in racing yellow and I was floored. If things go as per plan then R15 would be in my stable soon. And yellow it is.

Great man... R15 in yellow will surely be pose value.... If you don mind touring too much go down to chennai... N hit the tracks... That'll be home turf for the R15... Handles so well... On a straight it is the 220 on nice curvy roads the R15 rules... Hopefully i can buy the R15 when i start working...

I have tried to sell the gladiator a couple of times now... Didn't happen... Guess i am not goin to sell the bike ever Shall always be in my stable... Have plans for her...

P.S: The gladiator thread has surely taken of recently... Lot of activity which is good

      • Well well well, looks like a lot has been buzzing here!

Got my bike serviced recently, the 1st bonus free service done at Bangalore Wheels. They did a good job as usual and the bike's running fine.

The day i had to give the bike for service, i went to MSP Moto World as it's on the way to my college. I had missed one of my earlier free services and due to that reason, the service guy at MSP refused to accept the bonus free service saying that they'll not get some reimbursement n some nonsense. I had limited cash and couldn't shell out more for a paid service so i promptly took the bike to Bangalore Wheels, where the bonus free service was taken into consideration without any hitch. Mr. Sampath, the person i spoke to, mentioned that the owner can avail of the particular periodic service anywhere in the country, after i told him what happened at MSP.

The service was good. But the bike's tail-light bulb was replaced even though it was working fine. Reason given - fuse problem. Also some preformance additive was added along with the engine oil and there was a slight improvement in acceleration for a few days after service. Now, it's the usual.

Thumbs down for MSP, Thumbs up for BW!
Right now, 11 Bhp at 7500 Rpm.

        • After summer shower for 1-2 days in chennai i oberved immediate rusting formation in the Front disc pad.

Enquired one of the SC guy .. He says i have to religiously clean it everyday and rusting is a very common problem even for a brandnew bike and Fz also faces similar problems of surface rust... and claims that even if you hand it to us we will just rub emery paper n give it to you back...

The same surface rust of found on the Chain also... the sides of the chain started bcoming brown.. upon SC guy inspection, he claims nothing cud be done and sprayed some motul n gave me back

The tiny nut holding the wire that leads to the CV carb is rusted once again even after replacing it during first service..

I think yamaha guys needs to change the out sourcing vendors who give them such low quality nuts n screws n bolts which are not even given a proper zinc coating... Badd...

Regarding the mild squeak during Idle, SC guy claims he cannot adjust the tappet now and it s due only in the third service when they can go ahead to adjust its clearences.. and claims R15 may make more noise as it s a high speed motor and the clearences have wide adjustment lengths,,

So is the rusting problem occured to anyone of you in front disc pad?? like me??

          • Now that the odometer has crossed 550kms, he advised me to ride in 4-50 kmph bracket and max 4.5k to 5krpm and if riding in highway asked to touch even 60kph...though engine is new....

He says low speed may causign knocking and in rare cases valve bends...

            Your comments pl?

I guess the main cause for so much rusting for you is because you live in a coastal city... In bangalore i haven faced such rusting... I also accept that something should be done to avoid this... If you can find Yamaha contacts try writing to them about rusting in your bike see what they have to say... I shall too if i can get some contacts... N if its surface rust try rubbing it out yourself for now...

Secondly, i'm pretty sure tappets don't squeek when they are not adjusted properly... If it makes a tak tak noise then get it checked... Otherwise don... The SC guys will just screw up your tappet adjustments... N yes gradually increase speed as you go through your run in... That would be my advise... It helps the engine settle down gradually at all rpms...

              • No Prashanth,

I am 6kms away from beach and also thgere are so many other bikes running in disc setups and i have enquired my colleagues and none have faced such problems.. they are also very well in chennai and their vehicle also faces the same hardships....why should mine alone rust.. i feel my lot is of a inferior quaility..

SC guy says the same problem may occur in FZ and in rear disc of R15...ok will a Zorrik or WD-40 help me to prevent further rusting?? Mine is brand new vehicle man and am talking about loads of rusitng issues..

RX was trouble free vehicle... never faced such problems... even rusting problems or engine noise issues...simple and powerful design... yet reliable...

If thats the case... Do try n contact some executive at Yamaha... Tell them SC is not taking up your case properly... N that is y u are contacting them... Tell them yours is a new vehicle and that you are finding all these problems... Hopefully you will get a good response in the sense maybe change of those parts etc... If they don give a good response... I guess you can pressurize them...

WD-40 should work... Try it out...

                    +1 to what prasanth said

after 8 months & 4200 kms of ownership. I never faced any such problems & neither prasanth has faced any such problems.
As prasanth told you should get the number of the service engineer of chennai and should explain him about your problem. Maybee he can help you out. You can get the number of the engineer from the SC guys.

                          • the ride is otherwise ok... no starting trouble.. tried using auto start when engine was cold.. it also also happened without issues as parts are new...

Prashanth@ What does a tappet mean... I beleive it s not touched till now by the SC guy as he claims its due to be adjusted only in thrid service ...

He says R15 faces similars squeaks in run in period and being a high speed motor its adjustment clearences have more + and - 's comapred to gladi. and better to ignore the squeak..

I remeber madhav saying hearing a similar sound that ceasded post 3rd service...

Prashanth@ if R15 is your choice then i congratulate you for your decision but all yyou to know is you to be ready to spend lot on spares,a SC guy during casual talk about the kind of problems that occur in FZ and R15's, claim that there are many R15's whihc have come for service which are around 1.5 years old and whose Cone sets are due for replacement when they clock around 11k on their ODO's.. So high speed bikes have thier own limitations of failures owing to the nature of their engine configuration.. i think you can have a R15 for weekend and gladiator for daily commutes...

A cone set of R15 costs 3k... By the by what is a Cone Set ??

I said i would want my next bike to be a R15.Lets see when that happens.I think by the time i could buy one there will be a lot more bikes to choose from. For now, as nightwing said he is goin for the R15.and as u said he'll be using the gladi for daily commute to college and R15 for better city roads.

Tappets work to quite down the noise and give a uniform surface for the cam lobes to work which open and close the intake and exhaust valves.

I am not too sure what the cone set is... As far as i know it has to do with fork and handlebar.Somebody else could enlighten us on that.

My second cousin based in Delhi, a Electra owner and long distance cruiser, claimed about his team mate as a crazy rider who made it to the badrinath from Delhi Non stop in 24 Hrs in YAMAHA Gladiator...

                                2. harish--my brother-in-law and a newbie. with only one full ride behind his back, he is one excited chum who is raring to burn the highway on his pulsar 200cc. .......... and so on ............ """"""
