      Is is good or bad
Then for which oil should I use
Up to now my bike works fine without any issue
If available, use motul it's a lot better than castrol.

Any chain lube is fine as long as they are made to use on 'O' ring type chain.
Note: do not use lithium based 'grease' on chain. These grease is for entirely different purpose.

If you want to grease the parts, like cone-set, joints etc... Use lithium based grease.

To lubricate chain buy chain lubes, if you can't find any in your place, then you can use gear oil. If you can't even find that, then use 'new' engine oil to lube chain.
      Cheers.

The whole set would cost you around 6k. If your bike is still under warranty shoot a mail to Yamaha customer care and get in touch with they will replace the entire kit under warranty.
You have to bear the labor charges alone. I just got my piston kit replaced last month under warranty.

        • Clutch cable

Today I changed clutch cable in my 2009 FZ-S. But the length of the cable is not correct so the clutch is not at all fully engaging inspite of complete adjustment.
The part no is also the same as that of old but the new one is slightly bulgy than old one.

Is there difference between clutch cable for 2009 & 2012 models??

          • Currently I am using castrol 20w-40 active engine oil
Should I move to synthetic oil
            What are the brands
            What are the benefits
What are the service intervals after using synthetic oil
Did you guys change the chains and spocket set? If yes what is the mileage
I have change 2times front spocket (both sides so 4times) and didn't change the chain and rear spocket
            Now mileage is 23500
Should I change whole chain set?

I used new engine oil once, to lube my Fz's drive chain. But found it wont work for much time, as its not that sticky as Gear oil.
& i even found, dirt easily catches the chain when lubed with new engine oil compared to chain spray.

Better move to Semi-synthetic Engine oil rather than Fully synthetic. Coz its enough for Fz16.
Fz16 manual says we can use 20w-40 or even 20w-50. As it is summer, you can go for 20w-50 grade.
Brands of Semi Synthetic : VALVOLINE 4T PREMIUM 20W-50
                SHELL AX-7 4T 10W-40
                YAMALUBE 4T SEMI SYNTHETIC 15W-50
                MOTUL 5100 15W-50
                MOTUL 5100 10W-40
                PETRONAS 4T 4000 10W-40
The best Value for Money here is Petronas 4T 4000 (cheap and best) The Next Value for Money is Valvoline 4T premium synthetic blend.
Being a bit expensive but best for Yamaha Fz16 are Motul 5100 and Yamalube Semi synthetic 15w-50.
Shell Ax7 too performs very well.
First prefer for MOTUL 5100 4T , IN CASE, if not available, Go for YAMALUBE 4T 15W-50 SEMI SYNTHETIC.
If Yamalube is not available, go for Petronas or Valvoline

Sorry i forgot to mention the remaining answers for your queries
Benefits of semi synthetic oils are Better lubrication inside, which infact gives better protection from Heat. Good anti friction properties, Good viscosity.
Better performance on long rides. Semi synthetics disintegrate at a slower pace compared to conventional oils as they have a blend of synthetic formulation mixed with mineral oil.
This formulation really helps. Semi synthetic oils have ability to withstand high temperatures and pressures, better clutch engagement.
Coming to its Drain interval, I recommend to change semi synthetic oils every 2500-3000 kms. It depends a lot on your way of riding. If ripping hard, change it ever 2000 kms. For normal riding, you can extend it to 3000 kms, but do check the oil level 2 times or atleast once a week.
Or else keep the chart like this :
If its MOTUL 5100 or YAMALUBE semi synthetic, Change it every 3000 kms.
It its Petronas or Valvoline, Change it every 2500 kms.
It its shell change it after every 2500 kms.
Changing the chain sprocket depends on its extent that it has been worn out.
Generally an unlubed, dry chain dosent even last for 10k kms.
A well maintained chain kit lasts for 24k- 26k kms.
Do keep the chain clean always & lube it with chain spray , if not found, use SAE 140 Gear oil to lube the chain.
Just get its teeth checked. If they are about to be worn, or if they are worn, do get it replaced.

Yamalube and Motul would give you similar performance.. I would say Motul is the better one.
