Thanks mate for your update, will check in the coming weekend.Bit confused about from where to cut & join & how much to cut.

What is the purpose of that rubber cover near the intake area of air filter cover????
I have posted this a few pages back. Are you talking about this rubber piece??

If so then even I've always had the same thoughts.
It seems the only real function that rubber piece has is to hold the pipe coming from inside (from the AIS probably).
Other than that this rubber only serves to create a problem while removing the air-box cover

If you are looking to remove that cover to take out the air-box cover then see the replies below my post in the page I linked.

        Cheers!!

Glad to see somebody from Bhopal .Coming to the post , I did take the bike for the usual service and at that time I told them about the hanging indicator and as everything else was intact ,the mechanic simply applied some glue and it back to the same .Sadly that joint gave up after few months and I have been riding with a hanging indicator light since then ,they are glowing and obviously I still use it.Hopefully will get a permanent solution the next time I take my bike to the SVC .

If you look at the design of the piece, it is actually a "seal"
this is to allow the air to be sucked only from the rear of the bike.

            • Hello ! I am new to this forum and have a few qts, hopefully it would be answered here.
I own a Yamaha Fz 16 which has done around 12000 kms. I wanted to know if the following requires to be changed ?
              a. Engine oil and if so which one ? Mineral or Synthetic ??
              b. Brake oil. What kms normally do i need to change ?
              c. Air Filter ?
              d. Lubrication of the Chain ? ( Can it be done by myself rather then giving it to the company every 500kms ) ? If so what do i need to lube it and how ?

I am not very happy with the Yamaha service center here in chennai where i am presently giving the bike for service, I dont know if they really do change the required items above or just top it up. I am completely new to bike ownership and have no clue how they really operate. Is it better to get all these mentioned items above and get them changed in front of your eyes ? Kindly Advice, Thanks again.

                Thanks Mik. That makes sense!!
Wouldn't it help the airflow if the space from where the air-box takes in air were more open?
                Just asking...

                Cheers!!

Cheapest jugaad!! buy feviquick for 5 bucks INR get hold of the hanging indicator wriggle it back inside the designated area and apply the Feviquick all over between the edges liberally. Hold the bulb and then blow air evenly across the edges till the glue dries up. And there you have it as good as new.

                  Cheers,

Ans: I hope you have been changing oil as per recommended by the manual every 3k kms or the specified period. You may decide to shift to SS or FS grade. Personally would recommend shifting to Motul 7100 20W 50 if you want it to be lighter on your pocket. If you don't want your bills to run high then mineral oil for city runs are good enough.

                  b. Brake oil. What kms normally do i need to change ?
Ans: Not needed. Unless the bike is nearing 2 years of ownership. Then one should bleed the brake lines and fill in DOT4 preferably.

                  c. Air Filter ?
Ans: Yes. Get the spark plug changed as well.

                  Air filter=INR between 250-275 and
                  Spark Plug = INR between 105 - 110

                  d. Lubrication of the Chain ? ( Can it be done by myself rather then giving it to the company every 500kms ) ? If so what do i need to lube it and how ?
Ans: Ideal lube is diamond/Motul Chain Lube/OKS/TVS chain spray. If you want to be really cheap then you can use SAE 80W/90W gear oil. Chain should be lube at every 500 kms.

Ans: Chennai riders should be able to help you on this one.
                  Kindly Advice,
                  Thanks again.

I use that rubber seal to keep my small ziplock bag of bike papers inside.quite handy.

Almost had a horrendous accident today.a bike hit me directly on the left side.its front tyre hit my pillion, thankfully nothing serious.I was downshifting & immediately put my foot down so that bike doesn't fall.sprained my ankle a bit.but dunno how the gear shift lever bent & twisted downwards.fixed it from a roadside mechie as svc was far and it was hard to ride like that.its far from perfect & gearshifts have become more clunky(noisy) which wasn't there before.
Visiting the SVC tomorrow.what would be the price of the gear lever thing? Do I have to buy the whole set which consists of 3 parts?

                      • hey guys,
i've been modding my fz-s for a while now..i've installed a BMC air filter, but no other performance mods.
i'm thinking of changing the spark plug to this :
                        NGK Iridium Spark Plug : Yamaha FZ16 - 550.00Rs
i read somewhere that high tension cables should also be installed for actual performance gain..what cable do you recommend? NGK/MSD/Splitfire?
also, what other modifications do you suggest?

The HT cable will give enormous gains if you also installed a bigger bore and forgot about the larger displacement.
Sadly the HT cable alone on a basically stock bike won't give you much gains except for a lighter wallet, That may give you more speed and power due to the change in the power to weight ratio.

Save your $ and get some decent mods.
I've done a couple mods to my FZS and haven't touched the plug or cable.

I already bought the spark plug and the splitfire cable ( together cost about Rs.800), I'll survive on the $ dept.
although, i'm not keen on installing a bigger bore..what other mods have you done?

                            • Hi guys, today I rode my friend's Hero Hunk. I felt the engine was so refined and rev friendly compared to my FZ. The engine sound is crisp and bless full.
                              Have anyone experienced the same?
