Thanks bro for ur update, but about the kerosene thing, I didn't want to mean kerosene/diesel as lubricant, I wanted to know whether we need to to use it to clean the chain before lubricating? And what should be the interval for chain lubrication?

Generally we use Motul chain cleaner.but brushing with kerosene can be used for cleaning purposes only.happy cleaning!

Going for my last free service (6th)..6000km on the ODO..should I get the carb cleaned? Not so happy with my SVC,so would change it from now on,even if that means riding an extra 12kms. Gotta change my clutch return spring..somehow it broke. not changing oil as am super happy with Motul 7100 FS. Any other suggestions for 6th free servicing?

That is a good habit but since you don’t like to be told what to do or what not to do, why are you asking doubts about clutch straining, TPS, aftermarket CDI, chain guard, wider seat etc, etc. to other bikers here?

              Hi Subhradeep & Speedy,
Fz-s & Fz-16 have O ring type chain, which actually don't require much of lubrication. Most of my friends & me use Motul Chain lube for O ring type chain. Most of it, is used to keep the dirt & rust away.
For cleaning I use both, Motul cleaner & Diesel. Motul chain cleaner when on the go or when I'm lazy. But I get good result with Diesel/Kerosene. Kerosene is not freely available so I use Diesel.

What does owner's manual say? Refer page 6-5, #25.
Though I'm not sure about the performance impact but it will increase it's life.

don't want to stretch your doubt for too long, but
i think you can use at least diesel to clean the chain because the dirt gathered on the chain is (majorly) due to 'oil' based chain lube, diesel is also 'oil'.ok,then lypophilic (lypo=oil or fat, philic=loving) diesel must attract lypophilic oil based chain lube and go down leaving behind a clean chain, just like we wash our hands with soap! cleaning with diesel is much better than cleaning with water as it will will not pose danger of rusting.

Thanks Abhijitkn for your reply, could you please tell me whether I should ask for any specific type of motul chain lube/ there is only one generic chain lube from motul? And what should be the interval for chain lubing?

The normal motul chain lube would suffice. They can be used on a wide variety of chians, it's written on the chain lube bottle itself.
The interval of lubing depends on the environment your bike is ridden in , if its more dusty or slushy conditions the frequency of lubing will be more, if its dust free and slush free then lubing every 1k kms will do just fine.

                    Cheers

Mate, why mess with the cooling ? And this reduces access to the parts. Is that worthwhile ? Just a personal opinion mate.

                        Cheers

                        • Just thought that it looks cool.

I have a few other questions.
                          1. I plan on changing the air filter(K&N). Will it void the warranty? Also, instead of using the model for FZ16, can I use the universal one?
                          2. After changing the air filter, do I need to tune the carburetor?

                          Thanks again.
