Thanks MadMik for the info, never had a burnt clutch plate experience. So didnt know how to identify the problem. Will get the clutch cable changed if necessary. So I dont need to touch the timing chain then, right? Sorry for asking so many questions,I would rather ask than screw up my ride's engine. Wanna keep her for a long time.

If my hunch is right... the clutch cable is the culprit.

    Cheers,

How to check the steerings bearing? just tell the SVC guy?

          I own a fz-16 bought in feb 2012.
Completed 6,500 kms on odo. Very religiously doing all the bike routines since 1st day like chain lubing, proper tyre pressure etc. Did proper run-in. Upto first 1500 kms i used to get 43-48kmpl. After that FE gradually reduced and came down to 40 and 37 and 35 etc. used to get 32-39kmpl. SO i told the same to SVC guys..they said that it will increase with servicings. SO i waited till 3000kms on ODO and then got it tuned but of no use. After that i lived in hyderabad for 6 months and then had it tuned again while servicing there. But of no use. After that when i returned to my home i got it serviced and then the SVC guy changed air filter (5500kms on ODO then ) and tuned it for mileage for the freaking 3rd time. Then it returned 40-41kmpl. But the performance has reduced greatly and the engine really was lagging. So I was fed up with leaning out AFR repeatedly. I asked them to put the AFR on stock setting. Now i can feel the torque, But again 33-38 kmpl. mostly towards 33. hufffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff....
All these times the internals were intact and had no problems. My riding style is 40-55 km/h and 90% city. What might be the problem?? Also I don't ride aggressively..If my ride could give around 45 even before 1st servicing, then it should atleast give the same FE now(6th servicing pending this week) I am unable to find a solution to my prob. pls help me

Sounds like a common problem. Usually it lies between the handlebars and the seat.

What might me the problem, is it the tyres? anything else?

I will give the bike for it's 2nd service in 1-2 days, so how should I explain the problem to the SVC people?
What do you mean by shivering? You mean vibrations or wobbling? By what you have written, i can interpret that, you are experiencing vibes.

In what gear did you touch 50-60?

              Cheerz!!

these are the few sujestions for you which may lead to reduction of vibes.
              1. switch to yamalube SS grade.
              2. Oiling the chain after every 500 km
              3. cleaning the air filter after every 500 km
              4. maintaining the tyre pressure to optimum level( I prefer 30 front and 35 rear)

these steps have reduced my byk vibes. Now I feel the vibes around 80kmph. You can try these steps
              Thanks for the info bro.

Was on Yamalube SS recently. Changed the oil few days back.

What oil is preffered to lube the chain? Any suggestions for cleaning the chain?

Will do the air filter cleaning.

The tyre pressure is maintained @ 28psi for front & 33psi for rear.

              Cheerz!!

Check the carb setting for the bike. I guess the setting has been changed. Also, what was the reason to change air filter so early?

ha ha..That part causes Less FE and perf for some and gives perf+FE for others...Slowly i started believing that each bike is different and only a few lucky people get good bikes...

He said that air filter is considerably worn out and that happens when you ride for 6 months in a city like 'hyderabad' especially. anyhow they didn't charge me for the air filter.. so no worries.
And regarding the AFR, i emphasized the point that it should be set to stock.. and i was there while he was doing the tune.
I heard about some HHO kit which i dont believe fully.
ALso my mechanic said that by adjusting some valves he can increase the Fe to 45-50kmpl...What do you say?

Can any body help me in finding a good service center in Gurgaon? I recently shifted to Gurgaon so no idea about any good yamaha service center here. I have FZ 16 and this will be my 7th bike service.

                      Thanks...

If that is the case, get the bolts of steering tightened. Do you notice any play in the steering?

Also, check for the rear tyre alignmemlnt. Improper fit will make the ride unpleasant.

The best way to check the AFR is by looking at the Spark Plug. It will let you know on what mixture is the bike running.

What valves is he talking about? 50kmpl from FZ?? i doubt this can happen.

Also, my bike was bought in Feb'12 and my paid services have started. Were you getting the bike regularly serviced at specified intervals?

Have observed this in the top gear. A typical vibration like "zzzzz" can be felt. But, it fades out gradually as the speed increases. Got it regularly serviced, regular oil changes.

                          Bike is 1.3 yr old.

Engine oil - BPCL MAK NXT changed on 05/05/13.

The vibe has been coming from the start. The SVC guys say "ye to aayega, bike hai".

Any idea, whether the mid-range torque for the bike is on higher side?

                          Cheerz!!
It can be a problem with the roller rocker arms since thats the technology yamaha uses to reduce mechanical contact and interference between the moving parts of the engine.

Dont worry about the economy.. 33-35 km/l is comsidered normal on fz..
i myself am getting an average of 30-32 km from the day one.. Don't reduced or increased..
mostly depends on the riding style and the city conditions.. Be happy with 35 km/l in city riding..
                              cheers..

                              Ride safe and have fun.

I use the gear oil after every 500 km and clean my chain with kerosene oil or you can use diesel also.
I clean the chain after evry 2500 to 3000 km.

You can also increase you tyre pressure if you want you will feel the difference.
