Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Is honda shine really fasfer than fzs or my bike needs serious adjustment. Last night my friend was roaming around in the street, he said let's have a shoot out, since it was late night i thought why not. And to even things out there was a pillion rider on my bike hardly of 55 kg. First i drove the fz and he was on shine. I was never able to catch him till 3rd gear, in 4th i was able to keep him behind but with little bit distance. First he thought i am the one who is not driving it well and then he sat on the fzs and i was on shine, the result was same. Can you tell me the reason is it my fzs or because of shorter gear shine has crazy initial pickup?

Fz is NOT slower than shine. Maybe you need to get your bike checked.Originally posted by Aakash Singh View PostIs honda shine really fasfer than fzs or my bike needs serious adjustment. New problem!!Originally posted by ramprasadkamineni View PostHello all
Posting on behalf of a friend who owns fzs 2012 model with 30k on it which only returns 26kmpl
It has been timely serviced
Airfilter, sparkplug are replaced in the last service
Carb is cleaned and tuned at a trusted mechanic (it returned 40 when the carb tuning is done)
Rear tyre is Michelin pilot sporty
The mileage figures are the same from the past 3k kms
What might be the issue??

Bike won't start after parking overnight
Reason: petrol flow is rich
Mechanic says that the float pin has gone kaput and suggests for a carb change and also recommended Apache rtr 160 carb which will be a direct fit.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Hey, I can't really say about the apache carburettor, but I have replaced my fz's carburettor with Pulsar 150s carburettor. My mech also told me that it's a direct fit, and that the original carb is Super expensive.Originally posted by ramprasadkamineni View PostNew problem!!

Is there any difference in the performance after the carb replacement and any improvement in mileage??Originally posted by abhishyam2016 View PostHey, I can't really say about the apache carburettor, but I have replaced my fz's carburettor with Pulsar 150s carburettor. Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Yea, the typical fz low end torque is not so pronounced now. But it's not much of a problem. The bike revs better near the top end. Basically 19/20 ka difference hai. Nothing major, but for the initial week or fortnight you will feel it.Originally posted by ramprasadkamineni View PostIs there any difference in the performance after the carb replacement and any improvement in mileage??
My bike used to give excellent average with the original carb as well (40+ in the city). There's no major difference, it's maybe improved marginally to 42 or so in the city.
Overall, if you're not too emotionally attached to your bike, it can be made to work. But you will feel a difference. Also, a lot of tuning and adjusting is required to get it right. But don't overdo it, else the carb will start leaking when the bike is on the side-stand.
Please let me know if you need any more information.

Float pin is available as a spare part in the yamaha showroom spares or your local spare parts dealers who deals with original Yamaha spare parts.
Your mechanic is taking you for a ride. Either he is very greedy or don't know how to service a carburetor.
I am having a 2010 Fz. The some early batches of Fz with single throttle cable type carburetor had problems including mine. So changed the entire carburetor to double throttle cable type carburetor. The full carburetor assembly would cost about Rs. 3200 in 2015.
But your problem is just the float pin then may be would cost you about Rs. 300-Rs. 400. You can check with your spare parts dealers.

The mechanic tells that the carburettor has become weak and it's better to change and he also tells that carburettor complaint is there in fz and also it is familiar with the bikes which completed 30k kms
