Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Starter switch on the handlebar needs WD40 treatment. Do the same with starter relay as well and check its fuse.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostGot a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
The problem continues for me. Today morning rode for good 20kms and stopped to refuel, after switching off and switching on, there was nothing on console, tried several times. Later opened the fuse, refitted it and the console lit up.
Despite changing the fuse, there is some issue with it. Can the fuse switch be the culprit or there is some other issue? The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!
Headlight can be replaced, Head cannot be. Wear a helmet.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Sort circuit may be the culprit. Many times the wiring loses its insulating coating(the pvc plastic cover over the actual wire) and touch each other or any metal part of the bike causing the circuit to sort or blow up the fuse.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostThe problem continues for me. Get the whole wiring checked for faults and replace damaged ones if necessary.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Brother the switch looks good in the pic. The most you can do is clean it with WD40 to remove the slight rust and plug it back in.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostAttaching the pic of fuse switch.

If the issue still persists, get the wiring checked. A faulty wiring may lead you stranded in the night or worse the bike may shut off in the middle of traffic.
It used to happen in my old splendor, somewhere the wire was not insulated and the bike worked fine till the naked wire did not touch anything metal. But occasionally when the wire may touch the metal part, the bike would just shut off instantly. I had a lot of mid traffic stalls on it and it is not a good feeling. It is more dangerous if you ride in highways, cause of the speeds we can achieve on open roads.
I am not sure that your bike has the same problem as mine had, but it might be. Better to get it checked.Last edited by Ankey; 04-20-2016, 04:15 PM.I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Luckyly the bike hasn't stalled anywhere in the middle of the road. Yes, i travel by highway to office and that keeps me worried about what you said.Originally posted by Ankey View PostBrother the switch looks good in the pic. Will try WD40 and see how things work. Else, need to check the wiring.
WD40 can be used inside the electricals? Noob query. The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Yes, WD40 can be used inside the electricals. Just make sure that you wipe and clean them properly before plugging back in. Also WD40 is flammable, so take extra care to make sure the parts are clean and dry before plugging back in. Sorry, if am not able to provide solutions, its hard to guess what is causing the problem. Hope you figure it out soon.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostLuckyly the bike hasn't stalled anywhere in the middle of the road. Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Try kick start if the self doesn't respond, if the engine starts then relay below your back seat is gone, Rs 90/-, if the engine doesn't respond to, then might be battery terminal issues, try a multi meter and check the voltage everywhere.Originally posted by Mizt View PostGuys I have Strange problem with the self start. It only works when I push the self start button and turn the key to ON state simultaneously. If I put the key in and use self start nothing happens. What could be the problem mechanic cleaned the whole switch set and I also used rust removal spray too, but the self doesnt seem to work properly as it was before. Mechanic is suggesting its a Key Set problem and recommends changing the whole Key Set. Please advise.Regards

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Well nothing you can do about it. Displacement is one thing and tuning of the speed and torque curve is different thing. FZ has strong mid range but weak top end. Meanwhile Apache RTR160 and Xtreme have weak low end but good top end.Originally posted by ChristianRey View PostHow about the top speed? I also have FZ16 and my top speed is only 115kph. This is not a speed I was expecting for a 153cc bike.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
I've done a custom windshield job on my fz16. The fazer one does not fit or look decent.. Unless you buy the entire half fairing for it😃. I used a AS200 windshield as it surprisingly was a perfect fit and required the least amount of fiddling. Also, most importantly, it works! I can share photos if requiredOriginally posted by devils_friend View PostHas anybody fitted Fazer windshield on FZ? Any mods required or direct fit?
If not Fazer windshield, which other windshield is compatible??

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
I have fitted the windshield of fazer to my Fzs. I got it fitted after taking off the stock sculpted windshield. Remember i did it to Fzs, not Fz16. However, you can do this to Fz16 too if u can get the number plate mount bracket. You also have alternatives like windshield of Honda CBR 250r or the Pulsar AS series.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostHas anybody fitted Fazer windshield on FZ? All you need to do is making four holes in to the windshield by taking measurements as they are in the stock small windshield of Fzs and four rubber grommets. I do not have the pictures taken while fitting but i have pictures of bike after fitting fazer's windshield.

Only 115 kmph? Come on! It is too good for a 153cc bike to do that speed. I too owned an fz but the bike could do max of 113 kmph. Once i did 122 & that was on a highway slope. But yes, performance modifications do increase the top speeds. When i installed daytona dagrex exhaust, i did 133 kmph on a straight road. I admit i may have only installed daytona exhaust but not the other performance increasing components of yamaha's racing kit but the bike's pickup and speed increase was clearly noticeable. The bike used to touch the redline so quickly and revving was damaging my bike's valves, so i sold off the exhaust and went back to stock.Originally posted by ChristianRey View PostHow about the top speed?
