• Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S

Hello guys,
I own a FZ-S and it has clocked 13000 kms.

I have a problem with the bike now. The bike rides well at high speeds 100-105kmph, but when slowing down to 40-50 kmph, it chokes badly. Like when petrol is over, hiccups happen. I don't understand what the problem is. At high speeds, it is ok but slowing down gives it hicups and it gets switched off also.

Please help me out in figuring out the problem.

Also I live in Chennai. Can you suggest me a good mechanic for the FZ in Chennai?

Thanks a lot

Even i have the issue but couldn't figure it out. I thought it is related to slow speed adjustment. But i am not sure.

Clean the slow jet in the carb and wash the carb nicely with petrol to clean it.
In case fzs v2.0, take it to svc and get fuel pump and filter checked for obstructions.

• Weird problem with new Fazer urgent help needed

Hi Friends,

After some soul searching I have purchased Fazer recently. Love the bike and I have been facing a weird issue and need help from experienced Mods/Users in this forum.

The bike is nearly 30 days old and I have traversed 1200 km on this.

0-500 kms speed <50 kmph (<4500 rpm)
500- 1000kms speed <75 kmph (<6000 rpm)
1st service done at 1000 km.

I have been having this weird problem since 500 km on odometer. The engine feels rough as if it has not opened up!!! I mean like something is caught up either in the chain or the engine which is pulling it. I sense the harshness and this happens in any gear between 4000-5000 rpm.

Strangely enough I don't sense this roughness/harshness when I have a pillion.

can someone help me diagnose this problem and a potential solution if they have one. so far I have applied grease to the chain sprocket at the front, tightened nuts at that portion and lubricated the chain as well. No results.

I drive between 50-60 kmph hence I am unable to enjoy the ride on this bike.

please someone help me!!!

• Yamaha FZ16 (< 3 months old) instrument cluster coming up late

Dear all,
I bought the Yamaha FZ16 (ver. 1) in Agu'14. The engine trouble warning light was not coming up at all after first servicing. So I asked the SVC guys to replace it with a new one. Yesterday only I received the bike from SVC. But today morning when I started the bike, the instrument panel did not come up, although the engine trouble warning light came up and went off after few seconds as normal. The headlight and indicators and all other electronics seemed to work fine but there was no display on the instrument cluster, neither the Neutral, turn indicator light and the header light on the instrument cluster was not working.

Then after riding for 20 minutes or so, whole display came up suddenly and worked fine. I thought it's just a minor glitch, then I parked my bike and went for work. After i came back after a 10 hour shift, same problem.

Please help me to diagnose the problem. It seems like the battery level is low, but the starter is working fine. So can't pinpoint it. Please tell me a fairly precise cause of the problem, so that I can grill the SVC guys to work on the cause.

Any help is greatly appreciated....

Ride for some more kms and the smoothness will be there.

Even I face the issue of a particular vibe @ 4k RPM (2.5yr old bike), but that fades as the RPM increases. Nothing to worry about.

Do not apply grease to sprocket or chain, it will be a dirt magnet and life of chain will reduce. Clean the chain with kerosene or any chain cleaner and lube it with Gear Oil EP90 or chain lube.

Cheerz!!

Looks like loose wiring, get the wiring checked. If that is fine, get the display checked for any fault in it.

The bike is under warranty, bike electricals have 6 months warranty. If there is any issue with the display, get it changed under warranty.

How is the freeplay of front lever to be minimised? Even after adjusting the clutch wire, the lever isn't that great and has lot of play to it.

My bike jerks while acclerating. It happens offen at lor rpm and low gears but happen on high gears too.

When i change gear and acclerate ,it feels like bike becoming sluggish for a moment and then catching up power.

I am going to clean up the tank, clean the carburator, set the tappet and adjust the clutch.
Besides these are there any thing to look for?

Carb has some issues. Make sure you adjust the tappets when the engine is absolutely cold. Clean the fuel lines, clean the air filter or replace if necessary.

There will be a disk like nut on the yolk. Rotate that and loosen or tighten the hollow bolt it is on which the clutch wire runs through and that'll adjust clutch free play. Once done tighten the disc like nut(lock nut) and you're good to go.

Clean out air box and replace filter element if necessary. Check and clean the big jet in the carb. Problem solved.

Doing that since long, but it is back to square one after sometime.

You getting it wrong bro. By cold I mean is, the bike should have been idle for more than 5-6hrs. By washing it the engine cannot become dead cold.

Ah well in that case it might be time to replace the clutch cable. It might snap if the free play increases so frequently.
