Recommended grade for FZ-16/FS-S is 20w50 per service manual. You may want to drain 10w30 & give to a friend who owns a Hero/Honda make.

I have a query. the seats have become very hard and extremely uncomfortable for my ..
Is there any option to replace the stock one with a more comfortable or cushioned seat? Any other option to make it more comfy as I m planning to use the bike for my daily commute which is around 40km one direction
Someone here already had put seat covers with cushion on his fz. Its not more than a single digit number of pages back.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Hi Guys,
I have completed 14k kms on my yamaha FZ-s. There is issue coming with the chain sprocket. I recently went for a long drive for about 200kms its then i noticed that when i press the clutch some noise is coming .When i visited the mechanic shop i found that its because the chain had been loose as the weel went little forward so adjusted the rear tyre and it was working fine till i reached home . But now the chain is having trouble in moving its giving jerks sometimes while moving. I am posting the pics below. Let me know if you want a video i will share that as well.

Change the chain-sprocket set. Recommended to change at 12k kms as per manual.Originally posted by msandeep27 View PostHi Guys,

And also looks like you don't lube the chain much. This decreases the chain-sprocket life to a great extent.
Ride safe and have fun.

In just 14000kms chain set is finished, chain looks awful, it seems you did not cared for the chain set, replacing is the only option.

Well, i just changed my chain sprocket set last week. Now that you change the set just ensure that the chain is lubed well. even just the usual oiling on the chain by roadside mechanic works. My chain-sprocket lasted me for 30k kms.Originally posted by msandeep27 View PostHi Guys,

Other option would be to get the chain cleaned and lubed thoroughly and set the rear wheel for appropriate chain tension. This may work but the mechanic should be trustworthy and a good one. If you are willing you may try this out and see the performance.
Be sure to check the pricing for it though. A new set will cost you around 2k at the SVC. So decide wisely.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Whenever i give my bike for servicing they spray chain spray on it. that is every 2k kms or 2 - 3 months which ever comes first. Is there a way to get it cleaned and set the chain tension. If you know any mechanic could you please suggest one i am from pune.Originally posted by raj0690 View PostWell, i just changed my chain sprocket set last week. Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
2k is way too much. No wonder the chain is in such a mess. In dry conditions, chain should be cleaned and lubed every 500-600kms and in rains, the routine should be 200-250kms.Originally posted by msandeep27 View PostWhenever i give my bike for servicing they spray chain spray on it. that is every 2k kms or 2 - 3 months which ever comes first. The easiest way is to clean the chain with diesel using a tooth brush and then lubing by EP-90 grade gear oil. If you want, you can by Motul chain cleaner and lube from the svc itself. Watch youtube videos on how to clean the chain if you aren't able to understand.
For chain slack, any road side mech will do it in 2-3 mins.
Ride safe and have fun.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Buy Motul Chain Cleaner for cleaning the chain and Motul Chain Lube or Gear Oil EP90 or Rolon Chain Lube for lubing the chain. Clean and lube the chain at every 450-500kms under normal conditions and at 200-300kms during rainy season. SVC guys are least bothered to do the cleaning and lubing properly and the way they do it, it is next to nothing. So, best will be to DIY.Originally posted by msandeep27 View PostWhenever i give my bike for servicing they spray chain spray on it. that is every 2k kms or 2 - 3 months which ever comes first. If i now clean the chain with a motul chain clearner and use motul chain lube at regular intervals will the existing chain work or is it better to get a new one.Originally posted by devils_friend View PostBuy Motul Chain Cleaner for cleaning the chain and Motul Chain Lube or Gear Oil EP90 or Rolon Chain Lube for lubing the chain. Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
I'm assuming it's a conventional chain (i.e. not O-Ring type)Originally posted by msandeep27 View PostHi Guys,

- Rear sprocket looks good
- can't tell if chain has reached its service limit
Please post a clear photo rear axle nut towards chain, to have a closer look at service limit markings. Check service-manual for service limit of chain.Edit : service manual page 133 (section 4-54) : Link length limit of 15 links : 191.5 mm
And everywhere there are references to O-Ring Chain, I'm not sure EP-90 or Grease are right for O-Ring chains
You can
- buy litre of kerosene @ ~65/- and find an old tooth brush.
- take some kerosene in a bowl & clean the chain
- buy EP90 API GL-4 gear oil & lube it.
PS: I've Motul Chain Clean & Lube, I don't use them on my GS150R's conventional chain.Last edited by SparKot; 06-30-2014, 02:34 PM.There is no honest path to prosperity - KoKa

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
If the chain is set at the last setting and the slackness is beyond prescribed limit, their is no other option but to change the whole set (both sprockets and chain). IMO, get a new chain set, costs about Rs. 1200.Originally posted by msandeep27 View PostIf i now clean the chain with a motul chain clearner and use motul chain lube at regular intervals will the existing chain work or is it better to get a new one.
