I had put the Power 1 racing .....but drained it soon after using it for 800 km.....didnt like the heat dissipating from the engine....Originally posted by krates View PostAnyone using castrol with there fz? tell me what are difference that you have noticed ? or is there a better oil than castrol?
The bike would rev freely to some extent but it had the same harshness like the mineral yamalube.....
Then i switched to Petronas 4T 5000....i must say the oil feels better than the Power 1....bike revs freely and no harshness
......
what say Hydbiker anna????
.....i bet you can vouch a little for it......
Also it would help if you would get ur engine flushed......
the difference will be more noticeable ....
cheers.....

If you want to use mineral oils, better stick to YamaLube. It is very good.
The Petronas 5000 is very good. After using it in almost every engine around me (including my car
) for over an year, I can really vouch for it. No need to flush the engine. When you use the oil for second time it gives betterlife than the first time.

An update on the mushroom seal. The shop in Bangalore that Galaktus had mentioned some time back i.e., opp Indranagar RTO office, next to the Petrol bunk is the normal gooey strip-screw type (dont know the exact termOriginally posted by iamvik View PostGet a mushroom seal for the puncture. Since it's from the inside, it should seal the hole properly.
). I tried in vain explaining to him the mushroom cap seal (coz i didnt know myself what it looks like.)
I had to put in the gooey strip thing itself. culprit was a small nail and hence no problems in plugging that. Paid 120 Rs for that. Ok considering I paid 150 Rs to Yamaha in my first service.
Any other place in B'lore with the mushroom cap??Last edited by dude_phenom; 03-31-2010, 11:45 AM.Everyone falls down, doesn't matter...

Pardon me if I sound stupid, Is the Petronas 5000 a car engine oil or a bike oil?? Did you use that for your cars too??Originally posted by HydBiker View Post^^^ +1

Hi Folks,
From last two days i am facing a wierd issue with my 6000km old FZ.,
When i am stopping my bike suddenly near speedbrakers, the bike engine is shutting off.
This is happening 3 out of 5 times.
Anyone facing this kind of issue. I am taking the bike to SVC in a day or two. What could be the reason? My idle RPM is reduced to 1k by SVC guys last time when it was serviced. will this make any difference?

Yes, I was about to quote the same. The idle RPM setting might be too low for the engine to survive in case of sudden stoppage. My RPM was also set too low and I had a similar experience. I set the RPM to 1400-1600 n then it was okay.
Just give it a try, in case it happens its good, else you are taking it to SVC in a day or two.Stabl'ised by: BlackCat (FZ-16), BlackBird (ThunderBird)

Oh yes you can-look for the idle screw on the left side-it is exposed in most bikes.Originally posted by sudhakargurram View PostBy any chance can i change the idle rpm on my own?
Turning it anti-clockwise will increase the RPM&clockwise to decrease it.
One word of advice though: Set the idle RPM when the engine is warm, i.e. after riding for a few kms.
Check the manual for the recommended idle RPM.
Some mechanics set it about 100-200 RPM lower thinking it will increase mileage&reduce wear&tear.
Setting it slightly below the recommended RPM will also be ok (for eg.manual states 1500 RPM but bike is idling happily at 1200 RPM), but take care that its not so low that it stalls at signals etc.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

any specific place where i can get a mushroom fix done ? most places only have the normal puncture kit . this one might need two strips . i doubt the reliability of it ...Originally posted by iamvik View PostGet a mushroom seal for the puncture. Ah...its been a long time since i posted on this thread....the latest update is that i have changed frm mineral oil to semi-synthetic available at the svc and the difference is notable...i hadnt changed the oil since my last service 2.5k kms ago so the chnge was amazing...
The fz which usually feels strained from 55kmph to 65kmph is way smoother ...the engine doesnt feel strained...will definitely recommend it to anyone who has done above 5k kms....
more updates to follow...sigpicGirls are like roads, more the curves, more the dangerous they are.
To ride or not to ride?? is a....
very very stupid question....

Also, you could try engaging the clutch a few moments after you have applied the brake, this might not cause the bike to stall. But, it is a better idea to set the RPM to normal level.Originally posted by sudhakargurram View PostHi Folks,

is it the yamalube semi synth (15W50)? Please keep us posted about ur bikes performance. I too am using Motul 15W50 and this seems to be helping my bike in the summer.Originally posted by k2cool_87 View PostAh...its been a long time since i posted on this thread....the latest update is that i have changed frm mineral oil to semi-synthetic available at the svc and the difference is notable...i hadnt changed the oil since my last service 2.5k kms ago so the chnge was amazing...
