i placed the bike using the center stand. rotate the rear wheel clockwise then i hear something scratching, if i rotate the rear wheel counter clockwise there is no sound. i checked my chain and it looks ok.

any idea what it is? drum brake needs cleaning? how come if rotated the other way around there is no sound?

thanks in advance for your replies.

you mean there is no sound when you turn the wheel backwards?im not sure but maybe then the sound is from the chain?maybe requires cleaning frm all tht dirt in the rain?

        • Engine oil specs??

          Hey guys,

I went to the Yamaha factory shop today for servicing but as there was a lot of rush, I decided to buy engine oil n oil filter n get servicing done in Castrol Bike Zone. When I bought my regular Yamaha oil Semi-synthetic, I was surprised to see the specs as 15W-50! As earlier I read it in this thread itself that the rating is 15W-40, so I'm confused. Is this an appropriate grade oil for our FZ??

went to the service center. they found out that there is sand, soil and grit inside, just cleaned them and its working fine again.

I bought it from Hilton and its being serviced at Muthoot. Everybody saying Hilton is good, but I din like their service and setup though the tall guy over there was very understanding and all.

But many of us have used Semi-synth of Yamaha n faced no issues. Actually the bike has smoothen after its use. What say then??

when you change frm Mineral to Semi synth or Synth you will find it smoother even if its a wrong grade.
frm what ive understood W50 oil's are thicker than W40,when an engine is designed to run on W40 it isnt rcommended to use a thicker oil like W50.i guess W50 also take more energy for an engine to circulate it.
you might not find probs instantly..only in the long run but some ppl do argue tht they have used wrong grades for long time with no probs......even i had to use it once!
but what i say is when W40 grades are available, why risk using the wrong grade?

anyone with a better knowledge, pls do correct me if im wrong!
