FZ has a recommended grade of 20W40,YAMALUBE has tht grade for Mineral but not for semi synthetic.
15W40 will perform better at cooler temps than 20W40 but 20W40 is more than enough,if you dont get tht grade then get 15W40 or 10W40Smoke rubber, not tobacco.

Its the viscocity factor... For more details read this... Engine Oils...Originally posted by s_and_m View PostYes but which one is preferable? Or should I just decide by the cost? what does the 1st number stand for? Any ideas?
I would recommend Yamalube semi syn. version which i am using for my FZ after 17K+ kms... its very good oil, cost is 415Rs/-
stick to any xW40 grade(good to avoid 5W40) than xW50...
FZ's reccomende mineral oil is 20W40... the semi.syn version is 15W40 not 15W50...Originally posted by ayushkant View PostHey buddy, the grade for FZ is 15W40. This I think is for mineral oil. The Yamaha recommended semi-synthetic oil has grade as 15W50.sigpic...Ride Long...Ride Safe...

I've been using it on my R15.
I don't think there is any other grade available here, please correct me if there is something specifically formulated for the FZ.
i am going to change it to Castrol semi.syn 15W40... anyone has used it? how is it?
Also for my bike the engine oil seems to come out(even though its very little) and sticks around the engine frills(i.e below the engine oil dipstick), is it the problem of the wrong grade oil(i am currently using the R15's 15W50)?Last edited by Binoy; 05-06-2010, 06:23 PM.sigpic...Ride Long...Ride Safe...

^^ insurance expires when the vehicle is more than a year old and the insurance has not been renewed. Your insurance premium for the bike will be slightly more since it will involve an inspection of the bike also. Also no claim bonus will not be given for your insurance.

Engine Oil
Hey guys,
I'm still confused about the Engine Oil for my FZ. I've been using 15W50 grade of semi-synth. Yamalube since 5k n now my bike is 22k old. I've never experienced any prob of engine overheating or jerking at odd times. Once I used Castrol recommended Active Xtra 20W50. That was also OK kinds. But later I reverted back to Yamalube.
Now I'm hearing a lot that FZ is meant for 15W40 grades only and engine stalls if using 15W50. But if this is so, then why does Yamaha owners provide this oil for FZ??
Please help throw some more light on this topic and clarify mine and others' doubt on which grade oil to use for our bike.Stabl'ised by: BlackCat (FZ-16), BlackBird (ThunderBird)

Using a slightly more viscous oil will not cause overheating, jerking or stalling. Because the oil is more viscous, it will absorb some noise and vibration making the engine smoother. The downside is slightly higher fuel consumption, slightly longer heat up time, slightly higher chance of engine damage if thrashed when cold and some loss in power.Originally posted by ayushkant View PostHey guys,

Guys need urgent help from you.
I am going to Leh on a FZ. Where can I get rear tyre with studs? I am not able to get tyre other than the standard one.
I don't want a radial tyre like the standard fitment since its off roading capacity is quite limited.
Thanks in advance.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

There are no equivalent sized studded tyres for the FZ. It has an odd sized rear tyre. The closest would be dual purpose tyre like the Michelin Sirac 120/80x17. This tyre is actually too narrow for the standard rim, so I suppose you'll have to take your chances or actually find a narrower rim and hub assembly that fits the FZ.Originally posted by trustvishwas View PostGuys need urgent help from you.
