Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Have been facing the first major problem on the bike. It jerks during rains. It is perfectly normal on a dry sunny day the moment it starts raining, the bike starts to jerk. After sometime these jerks reduce in frequency and intensity. Have not driven for more than 10 mins in rains hence cant tell what happens next.
The jerks are like an engine running out of fuel. It never stalls though.
I did some research myself and found some reasons to it - 1) Airfilter clogged and high water vapour air blocks it further 2) Something getting short due to water.
I have overfilled the engine with some 100 ml oil during the last fill. This also can be someway related to this.
Today checked the airfilter.. it looked normal except for the oil near the air intake. I have seen this happening on some other FZs on this very forum, so was not bothered as this tends to be the result of overfilling with oil.
I also doubt that some connection is getting short due to rain as the engine never stalls. Have seen the sparkplug, there was some oily deposits but everything else was fine.
The idle rpms hovers just above 1300 on semi-cold engine. Have increased that to 1500, lets see if this improves anything.
I was facing some air loss problems from the stock mrf 140/60 tyre. Was also having problems with the stand hitting speed brakers when the air is 25 or less in the tyre. Thought a puncture resistant tyre is the need of the hour, the revz were not puncture prone, but the loss of air from one amongst the three punctures bothered me every now and then. I narrowed down on two tyres - Ceat Vertigo Rage 120/80 or Ralson 120/80 Speed blaster. I was not interested in 130/80 or 140/70 profile tyres as I wanted minimum increase in height from the stock. Why these two were shortlisted - visit this page http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/universa...tyres-637.html
Both the tyres have very good reviews and I like their tread pattern a lot. I could not source the ralson and the nearby shop was selling the Rage. Took the plunge and brought it to a nearby mechanic who after a lot of effort failed to fix the tyre!! He told me that because the tyre was stacked one above another, the sidewall has got temporarily bend and you should put a tube for the time being and after the first puncture, remove that and revert to tubeless. So here I am, with a new tyre with a tube inside :-)
The tyre costed 2650 + 300 for tube and fitting.
Coming to the tyre review - It is good. Marginally better than the stock in terms of wet grip. Dry grip is more or less same. I am comparing it to a 18K old MRF revz which had good amount of tread remaining when I removed it from service. I am impressed with the rubber quality on the rage, you put an MRF revz and Ceat rage side by side and you would tell how good and hard the Ceat is. Its like a rock, yet the grip is very good.
Its raining heavily in Hyd, will post clean images some other time.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
Thanks Nadz11ns and sparkot for your suggestions
Btw manual says front fork oil should be replaced after 10k KMs. I had my bike serviced at 9900kms and mechanics didn't changed fork oil. He said its not required and i should replace fork oil only when ride becomes too bouncy. What should i do? Should i ask him to replace fork oil during my next service? Front shocks compression and damping is still good, didn't felt any change so far

Exhaust for FZ-S
Hello guys, I own a Yamaha Fz-S and I am interested in adding an aftermarket exhaust system. I have this one in mind
It's a yoshimura Tri-oval
Please help me with the model number/name and if it is available in India and if it is legal or not. If this exhaust is not available, Do please suggest some other exhaust which gives the same sound as this. I really like the sound this exhaust gives. I reside in Chennai and would like to know where it will be available. Please do help me guys, Thanks in advance !
PS: It would be nice if you can give an approximate price for the kit. Thank you !

muztariq.. Aren't you facing any handling issues with 120 profile tyre? Regarding jerking of ride, the spark plug cap is short and needs replacement.
Cheerz!!The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!
Headlight can be replaced, Head cannot be. Wear a helmet.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
For forks, change when they start leaking or when the forks become too tight (ie. Same as what the mech told). Also, changing the oil and seals isn't cheap. It would cost you ~1000rs for both the forks.Originally posted by hgps View PostThanks Nadz11ns and sparkot for your suggestions

This is different than changing the air filter which we just thrown and put a new one. Opening and re-fitting new seals is something which if not done correctly will fail pretty soon and hence is not recommended.

Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S
No, not really.. I can lean as much as I want. It depends on the rim width actually. As the rim width is same there is no issue.. even a 150/60 appear the same on these rims.
The same bike sells with 120/70 in other countries like indonesia. Plz note 120/70 or 140/60 has exactly the same height of 84 mm. I just increased it to 96 mm. 140/70 tyre would have increased it to 98 mm. People are not facing any issues with 140/70 either.
Let me run it longer on these then I would be in a better position to update you. The first impression is good. Spark plug cap if short would give this differences in wet vs dry conditions. My bike runs perfect when its not raining.
The other thing is that the fuel may be diluted with water either at the petrol pump or during the rain. When I use this fuel completely, I would again ride in the rain to see if it was only the fuel that was problematic.Last edited by muztariq; 08-29-2014, 06:59 PM.

I bought used fz and the previous owner had installed this one.
Havent got experience of the stock mrf but I feel like my fz doesnt handle well.It isnt nimble in city and confidence inspiring in curves.
Thinking of going for stock but if there isnt much difference in handling I will stay with this tyre.Grip is preety good with this vyde too.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

It's good that you are not facing any problem, but increasing the height of the tyre a good 12mm will definietly have some kind of effect on the rear suspension you have already reduced the the travel height of rear suspension, all of these parameters are designed very closely and playing with them is something not recommended, every mm makes effect.

Re: Exhaust for FZ-S
Thanks nadz11.ns, The thing is that I'm looking for an exhaust which gives the same sound in that video. I really fell in love with that roar. So please help me find out one !Originally posted by nadz11.ns View PostFor Fz-16 series, there is Darex Exhaust (daytona kit) from Yamaha svc itself. Will cost around 10k.
Then you have Leo Vince exhausts. Check for yourself on Bachoomotors website.
