130/70 has some serious fishtailing issues, as suggested by my friend.

Any review about MRF Revz-M? Is stock one.

        Hey guys, long time..

Reason for this post is I'm in the process of prepping my White Horse (FZ 16 LE) for my Spiti & Leh excursion next month. Xbhp & this thread has already helped me a lot to prep my bike for my mumbai-leh-mumbai ride in june 2012 which was done flawlessly with bike giving no issues whatsoever.

My ride is nearly 4.5 yrs old with nearly 50k on ODO. I've taken decent care of her with basic service needs taken care of on timely basis.

First a list of critical replacements already made/about to be made:

        Chain-Sprocket set
        Brakes (front & rear)
        Con set
        Fork oil & seals
        Clutch/accelerator cables & levers
        spark plug
        butterfly valve (carb)
        ASI (Air induction system)
        Air filter
        New Lock & Key set
        Motul mineral oil & filter
        clutch/pressure plates

I need your help to identify any replacements/repairs/checking I'm missing considering the age & ODO of bike.

Apart from above, I need a suggestion on tyre. I'm presently using stock front tyre (replaced at around 35 K kms) & Dunlop TG (replaced at 21 K kms) at rear. Surprisingly, both the tyres dont even have a single puncture (Dunlop has been through of Leh ladakh terrain, rann of kutchh & numerous offroad excursions but it is sturdy as hell. Doesnt even loose much air either) But with age, the loss of grip is obvious & bike does fishtail/skid often even at slow speeds. Hence the need to replace.

I'm inclined to get back to MRF Revz-m purely because i want to feel that nimbleness in handling again. Please share your experience with revz-m. Is it medium compound, too prone to punctures etc. I'm gonna change rear tyre only. Some options I had when I made the last change in 2012 was MRF Revz, Dunlop TG, Pirelli SD, Conti-Go, Kings tyre etc. Any other tyre suggestions from present availability is welcome.

Also, I feel considerable lack in confidence at corners ( partially due to damaged con set, bumpy suspension & some mis allignment). The blokes at yamaha say I've to get the rear suspension changed which is screwed due to heavy Dunlop I'm using. What is your opinion. Have any of you carried out wheel allignment/balancing at SVC or anywhere else ?

        Thanks.

          Get ceat vertigo 120/80.

The problem in handling, suspension is due to use of wrong profile tyre.. change the tyre to 120/70 140/60 150/60 120/80 and the confidence would come back.

hey thanks for quick update.. Ceat Vertigo was indeed my shortlisted options back in 2012. How is the onroad feedback ? One other thing, I have a visible bend rim on corner edge but it has never given any problems since last 40 k kms or so. I fear that smaller profile will not gel well with the slightly bent in rim.

I agree when you say the handling problems can be related to wrong profile tyre. That is why stock tyre/profile is my initial choice.. I reckon other profiles viz 120/70, 150/60 will not come without any handling issues either. Just my opinion.

              @mitz

You can go for Kings tyre for the trip.

              Mentioned on this page

For more tyres do check AH helmets in Andheri. Hemant Bhai has off road tyres as well.Regarding the trip get all the servicing details from a service centre so that you don't face any problems during your journey.

Mainly know about the AFR tuning part.
The parts you have mentioned to be changed is perfect. Do carry spare accelerator cable and clutch cable as well.

              If needed carry tyre tube.

You can go for Kings tyre for the trip. - Stayed away from that 1 last time due to some negative feedback, will check again

For more tyres do check AH helmets in Andheri. Hemant Bhai has off road tyres as well. - don't wanna go full off road buddy, will like the tyre to be decent for highway run as well, as I may have to ride all the way. Can't risk highways with off road tyres

Regarding the trip get all the servicing details from a service centre so that you don't face any problems during your journey. - hopefully.. Genuine yamaha parts & genuine yamaha asc mechanic.. Not the svc per se though

Mainly know about the AFR tuning part. - I'm aware of those requirements from my last ride.. No issues there, copper wire jugaad n Afr adjustments will b sufficient.

The parts you have mentioned to be changed is perfect. Do carry spare accelerator cable and clutch cable as well. - carrying the present ones as spare.

If needed carry tyre tube. - its on the list, apart from puncture repair kit & tyre inflator

Thanks for the vote of confidence buddy.. Cheers

Hello, i am having to replace my rear tyre due to a puncture and its just 17500 on the odo. The plug inserted previous puncture came apart when i braked hard today. Been to a tyre repair shop where they said it can only be repaired from inside by "MUSHROOM REPAIR" PROCESS. Got it done for Rs 400/- and after riding for 30 odd kilometers, the tyre was flat again and air was leaking from the same repair. Took it back and that person said that there is no way to repair it again and i was asked to use a tube instead. The threads on tyre being in good condition and 4 other punctures apart from this, is it possible to use it so for few thousand kilometers more? Click image for larger version

What difference will the 140/70 R17 tyre have over the stock? Apart from the punctures, MRF Revz (Stock) was very good. Also, a CEAT dealer told me that CEAT tyre lasts over 25k-30k kilometers! Is it any better than the stock? Does using 140/70 cause any change in gear ratios? I will be grateful for any suggestions helping my cause.

                  Regards,
                  Sachin

Just wanted to know, why you chose mineral oil over synthetic? (just curious) ☺:-)

Racing = synthetic. Rpms above 8000 most of the time.

Normal ride = mineral. Rpms don't cross 8000 rpm.

If the vehicle came factory filled with synthetic - then only synthetic.

True :-) but still many if use fs on road bikes(non racing), including me, and gives better performance than mineral.. Then y not fs?

If the rider does only normal usage (ie with very less high revving) then he is more happy with mineral than FS due to the greens he saves.

                          Ride safe and have fun.

                            Yes, nadz11.ns is right.
We have performance upgrades in everything. . . Tyres, filters, alloys, cables, brakes etc etc.. every biker do not opt for them for just one reason - Money. If I get same comfort from 280 rs oil, why spend 1100. Finding the 280 rs oil that matches smoothness of an fs is a challenge.

It is the perfect time for SS to FS depending on your budget. Well , the best recommended i would be Motul 5100(SS), 7100(FS), 300V(FS).
You can decide according to the size of the hole it will burn in your pocket which you are comfortable with.
