  • I thought over for months about doing something to the performance as well as looks, of my FZ16 std, and since my patience was beginning to wither, i went to the nearest Proton performance parts store. The engineer there asked me of what i most need....well, i said i don't quite like the bike's TOP END performance ....so he fitted a free flow air filter, and jetted the carb with main jet from the Pulsar 200, the result was that not only my bike is quicker through the gears, it has better top end too.
But since i still wasnt satisfied by the way she looked, i took her to the body shop and gave her a paintjob,....a complete makeover, and now, my dream FZ is parked right in my room....damn,,, m so happy!

I gun the throttle, the motorbike wails, the forks heave up, the revs climb, my view blurs, air gushes in my lid, muscles tighten, street lights streak. Just another day at work...

Nice work there. Could you post a pic of the bike from the right? I want to see how the exhaust looks. Also, would like to know the change in performance.

Once there was a piece of polythene stuck to the underside of the exhaust - the part that starts from the engine and makes its way to the cat-con. That was getting heated and was getting burnt giving off a weird smell. The polythene had melted and I had a layer of that crap stuck to the exhaust. It finally burnt off entirely in a few days time and the smell was gone. You can just check if something similar is going on before going to work the problem.

The mid range and top end have increased significantly, and the bike has a higher rev limit now, plus she does a genuine 120Kph on the speedo (havnt tried more than that, ran out of road)....all i can say that the bike feels much faster through the gears than before, and she eats stock FZs for breakfast!

                    • Guys, i'm not sure whether this is the right place to post it... Or is there any thread where i can post this.

I've a new speedometer of Yamaha FZ (which i've used for a week and has an odo reading of 174kms on it) and i want to sell it.

                      The whole story is...
Recently i had met with a small accident on my bike and my speedometer assembly had come out.
The part (the plastic cover) which connects the console to the mounting surface was broken.
But after i gave it for servicing, they replaced my whole speedometer assembly saying that they cannot just get the cover of the console.
Whereas my speedometer unit was completely working fine. There was nothing wrong in the inside unit. I had done close to 14000 kms on that.
So i just took back the old unit from them and now fixed inside the new cover. Hence, i don't need the new speedometer.
The unit is new (used for a week) and just have 174 kms done on the odo of that. The original cost of that was Rs.2058/-

If anyone (fz owners) has any problem with your speedometer or it is damaged and planning to get it changed, i'm ready to sell it to you for a lesser price.
Please PM me or get in touch with me on +919886843041. I'm based in Bangalore. I can also courier it to you if you're from some other part of India.

Hey nand. Any hardware shop will be the place to go. If I remember correctly you also get your bike serviced at Pacer. So you must be quite close to Comm. St. Ismail Hardware shop at the end of the it, will be the place to find such stuff. If not ask the guys there they'll help you out.

                                Good to hear that brother.

It would be great if you could post some pics of the mods - specially the custom exhaust.

Could you also let us know the overall cost incurred (a part by part breakdown would be good).

How about the power at the lower levels? is it still the same or has dropped?

Also, have you replaced the stock spark plug too? What all parts were replaced?

Many thanks for patiently answering these queries.
