well maybe it doesn't improve efficiency , but if have noticed the handling behaviour of the bike under a full tank of petrol ... it does differ ... correct me if i'm wrong . coz goin by ur calc , a full tank would be around 9kgs ...

not to mention i have removed my saree guard also , coz i lost the bolts for it ...

      • Guys I own an FZ16 too. It does about 30-33kms per litre. Is it normal? I ride a bit fast and RPMs are high too.

Too bad 2-strokes are almost extinct now. Nothing like the raw feeling of a screaming 2-stroke engine to stir up your loins.
Doesn't matter how much faster the new 4-strikes are, or better they handle, there is something unquantifiable about riding a 2-stroke.

I get it around the same range too. Of course during run-in i got 37 post which I get 30-33. I run it at decent rpms.. (upshift at 5k rpm), with more than occasional bursts of high revving

@rest on the saree guard topic. reduction in weight is a good thing. A buddy of mine with same driving conditions get 40 regularly. Assuming the bike conditions to be identical (no after market stuff in either bike), the only diff is the biker weight. Now I'm not exactly feather weight (he is unfortunately) that can be the only explanation for my low average

U could sit the bike up on its center stand, ask a buddy to rev the engine and u could watch out for somethings thats gone wrong something in the chain perhaps?? Take utmost care in this though...

                    • FZ-S gives a 59!!

For the past 8 odd months ago that I bough the FZ, it had mileage issues, which was fine until the government again increased the fuel prices
So at last fed up with the deteriorating milage rate I went to a local mechanic for a tune up.
did i mention the figures? well the bike started of with a 48 and the last heartache was a 32 kmpl !! a 220 gave more!!
But before tuneup Mechie wanted to confirm the average and did the standard test of 100ml.
my smug look vanished when the bike gave a 53 kmpl. traitor.
So with a smile that said " you insolent punk..."
but the actual words were " dude ride with love, and ofcourse in high gears whilst avoiding knocking" :s
the wise man had spoken and after leaving me lighter by 40 odd bucks I was (un)ceremoniously dismissed.

okay so now i had made a mental note of what he said and how he was driving!
next thing was to test this pearl of wisdom, which came sooner than expexted
A trip covering 300 kms to meet dad, back from kargil for a few days
though skeptical I did as told - " early high gears, but without knocks"

(I was still carring a liter of fuel spare, can never tell.)

                      and LO BEHOLD!!
while returning back a quick glance at the tripo and few mental math later I was letting out a warcry in the middle of the highway, GOT A 59kmpl!!
                      from 30 to almost 60!!!

                      Thank you O wise mech.

ps: I averaged at 55~60 kmph and after the reveletion of high avg even let it rip to 121kmph on a slope ... for a few minutes ofcourse

                          • Hello,
I met with an accident yesterday and my FZ got considerable damage. The handlebar is bent, got bad scratches on my silencer and a small scratch on my right side tank, the throttle holder and headlight. And the side mirror is broken.
I am planning to change my silencer cover (both plastic and the metal cover), take the bend in the handlebar, change my side mirror and the throttle holder.
What will be the approximate cost for doing this? And is there any way to hide the scratch on the tank?
My dealer is very costly and he doesn't give a proper bill for that too. Please suggest a good place for my bike to get serviced.
I am in chennai- Anna nagar..

Dude here in SL the silencer covers (both) nearly costs around 3000Rs. (2.5x In india i guess).. so its better u go for a paint job or give it a Chrome coating which will cost u around 750 IndRS...well thats my idea for the silencer.. no idea about the handle bar ..

For the tank try "supercut"if the scratches are not that deep. or cover it up with a custom sticker!!
