yup.. the red light coming on should in all probability mean that. Same thing happened with the engine kill switch. I hav kept it on ever since (mine happened when the bike wasnt starting in rest position)Originally posted by kinshuk.arya View Posteven mine did a couple of days back was at speeds of around 70 at 2 am in the night nothing was working suddenly the red engine light came on went off again and the bike started..... dont know what caused it.... i am thinking the red engine turn off button might have some loose connection or there might be some dirt trapped in it....

No ON red light for me. Engine shuts off and comes on without even a slight jerk.Originally posted by s_and_m View Postyup.. the red light coming on should in all probability mean that. i think the problem should subside if you use the switch once in a while or may be wd40 or zorrik will do the trick..Originally posted by s_and_m View Postyup.. the red light coming on should in all probability mean that. the various options for rear disc brakes in fz are:Originally posted by Samarth_M View Post1) What disc is it?
2) How much did you pay for it?
3) What kind of difference in braking are you feeling?
1. R15
2. P220
3. Apache
all of them can be fitted but it will be better to go for the assembly of r15.
the whole assembly including the discs cost somewhere around 6-6.5k.
there are two problems which can arise wile installing the disc brakes.
1. the Yamaha SVC wont do it so you will have to find a trustworthy and capable mechanic.
2. the mechanic should be able to align it properly otherwise it will wobble while driving and that can be dangerous.
for finding out the difference i would suggest you to go to TVS centre and test drive the apache with and without the disc brakes...Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009

Hello people,
Quiet new to Yamaha & FZ family, got my bike last week. Loaded up 10L of Petrol and at 310KM it went to reserve today, judging from this I think I can expect another 50 max with the left over fuel. So 10 L giving 350 is like 35K/Litre, I have been maintaining the speed between 40-50 KM/HR and some time 60-65 which is rare, couple of times a day when the road is free. I have used the bike mostly within city limits and with heavy traffic. 35KM/L is something average or am I missing something here.
Its good to read tons and tons of replies going through this thread, but I'd appreciate if someone can link important discussions on bike maintenance, tips & suggestions if they have bookmarked it.
Cheers

congratulations for the special edition lord.....
35kmpl is a little low by my standards i am getting somewher around 40kmpl in city.... although since the engine is new it might need some run in.... things should ease out after the first service....Timon: Orange Yamaha FZ16 2009

My run-in avg was 46 which dropped to 38-ish when I started ripping it right after the 1st service (1000 kms).. And about the engine kill switch position, do let us know what worked out.Originally posted by kinshuk.arya View Posthi vinay,

Thanks Kin! I'm kinda proud to own the LE lord and have my unique number 0158/1000Originally posted by kinshuk.arya View Posthi vinay,

I was expecting 40-45 KMPL but 35ish is bit disappointment. Using the engine kill switch often could affect the bike's performance? Any other factor I should consider that will affect the bikes performance in mileage and is it ok to rev upto 4k RPM or 65+ KM/HR speed at times or does this affect before the 1st service. I have been advised to maintain below the speed 60KM/HR in first month and/or upto 1000KM.
What exactly are you asking about the engine kill switch position? Sorry, quiet didn't get it.Originally posted by s_and_m View PostMy run-in avg was 46 which dropped to 38-ish when I started ripping it right after the 1st service (1000 kms).. just keep your rpms in the recommended range and you will do fine also try to use a better method for calculating average....Originally posted by iVinay View PostThanks Kin! I'm kinda proud to own the LE lord and have my unique number 0158/1000

1. reserve to reserve method: fill a certain amount of fuel as soon as you hit reserve use it till it hits reserve again..
2. brink method : fill the fuel to the brink use the bike for a couple of days and again fill the bike to the brink and then calculate the average...
the engine switch question was for me.....
@s snd m : havent had that problem since a couple of weeks... right now i just flip the switch once in a while to keep it working and prevent from any accumultaion of dirt and dust...
