Doubts regarding Fazer
Hi guys, I am Dnyanesh from Mumbai. A newbie in the biking world.
I got my Fazer (Midnight Black) on 18th Jan 2011 and did my first service yesterday (15 Feb 2011). My ODO reads 390 km. I have few doubts:
1. The engine feels a bit harsh. It feels smooth till 10kmph on first gear. After that it feels a bit harsh so I've to shift up the gear to 2nd and then it feels smooth again. After 20kmph on 2nd gear it feels harsh again. So on and so forth. This happens until 40kmph and then I'm in the last gear and can't shift up. I tried my friend's FZ (1.5 years old) which feels smooth even on 2nd gear.
2. I've tried to keep the speed below 45 and 4K RPM. I reached 52kmph on highway but on noticing I slowed down to 45. Will this ruin my mileage?
3. I want both headlights to be on at the same time without ruining the battery. When I want both headlights to be on at the same time, I keep the switch in middle, but it's a bit tricky and I've been advised not to do so. I am aware that the electicals can be changed to get the desired effect. I have seen many Fazers with this mod. Does it ruin the battery?
4. I feel that my both brakes are not powerful. My rear drum brake is somewhat poor. I feel my disc brake is also not that powerful. I rode Avenger and it's disk brake is very much powerful.
5. I want to fit a rear disc brake with ABS. Is is advisable and how much will it cost?
6. What about K&N Filter and Iridium Spark Plug? What changes will they make to my biking experience?
7. What are other possible upgrades I can do without voiding my warranty?
And one last thing,
If you guys have got anything to suggest me then please enlighten me!
Thanks!Yamaha Fazer [2011]

Kindly go through the manual supplied along with your bike. Your bike has still not completed 1000 kms so the internals of the bike engine still needs to set in.. hence the harshness.. Be gentle with the bike until it finishes its run in. you will notice a major change in its smoothness after 1000kms.
If you keep the bike on "Splendor mode" i.e. keeping the rpm to 4.5 - 5k and the bike around 45-55kmph on 5th gear... your mileage will be around 45- 50+ kmpl.. although i am not sure why would you think about mileage on Fazer??... Yamaha bikes have always been about sheer pleasure of riding them on corners and performance.. not for mileage..
Regarding keeping both lights on.. if you go through couple of posts back.. you will find members talking about DIY mod in this thread.
K&N air filter & iridium spark plugs .. i am not too sure about any major gain on performance.. i guess others can throw a light on this one..
I believe the brakes are good enough on the bike just try practicing the braking techniques shared on this link: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/art-safe...0-braking.html
I am not aware of any good after market ABS brake manufacturer for indian bikes so really can't comment on it.. however on personal experience.. if you want to have stronger braking power then you can look into the petal discs provided by yamaha as a part of its performance upgrade kit for r15 and fazer/fz...
CheersA quote by a toilet, " use me well, keep me clean, i would never tell anybody whatever i have seen.." :P

it wont ruin the battery and both the lights can be kept on at the same time.
4. I feel that my both brakes are not powerful. My rear drum brake is somewhat poor. I feel my disc brake is also not that powerful. I rode Avenger and it's disk brake is very much powerful.
evrything in a bike needs setting in and has a breakin period including the brakes.... the brakes will feel more powerful once you have ridden for around 500km.... till then practices the correct art of braking.
5. I want to fit a rear disc brake with ABS. Is is advisable and how much will it cost?
rear disc can be fitted to the fz the various options you have are the rear discs of r15, apache or p220 but any of the rear disc setup costs somehwhere around 7k regarding ABS an electronic one is not possible but check out kaulson racing products for a mechanical one.
6. What about K&N Filter and Iridium Spark Plug? What changes will they make to my biking experience?
close to nothing.... K&N is good for sound but it is a lot of hassle with getting the proper jet sizes for the carb
7. What are other possible upgrades I can do without voiding my warranty?
any type of cosmetic mods...
And one last thing,
If you guys have got anything to suggest me then please enlighten me!

Problems with Speedometer
Hi Guys,
I have couple of queries.
First, I own a Yamaha FZ-S. From last week I am observing that the speedometer is behaving very weird, It shows that my speed is 0kmph sometimes when I am riding, has anybody else too faced this problem ?
also since my bike is in warranty, Can I get the Speedometer exchanged ?
Second, I get mileage of about 42km in bangalore, is this the usual mileage expected from FZ ?
Appreciate any reply.

Get the speedo checked and of course they'll replace under warranty. Maybe loose cable. 42 is decent mileage or better mileage comparing many FZ owners.Originally posted by sathishholla View PostHi Guys,

Like you said, will get it checked tomorrow.
Regarding the mileage, that makes me feel a little better.
Was assuming that the mileage was low.

Bro that happens to me everyday..I've noticed that it depends on the weather..yes the WEATHER!If it's cold I've noticed that the bike is silky smooth and during hot afternoons the bike is not as smooth..I know this sounds dumb but trust me..it's been confirmed by many of my friends who own Fzs too.I have no idea why it happens but it's freaking pissing offOriginally posted by cscsarkar331 View Posttoday in the morning during going to office I was doing 100+ for some 10 km straight with less traffic,at that time no vibration was felt. But while returning in the evening I was doing 90+ but my handlebar was vibrating ferociously, due to this my left hand become almost numb. Can anybody tell what could be the problem??also at that time my bike was running a little low on petrol while returning.Could be that anybody tempered in parking??
I guess it's due to the air cooling ?
No idea..
