I own SZ R and I even never faced cold start issue, if I am starting my bike after 3-4 days then I use choke for first 30 seconds, then move it ha half and let it run for another 30 seconds, and then I let the engine to warm-up for another minute or 2, then I start riding. Trust me it takes a lot of patience particularly when you are in hurry.Originally posted by RAK View PostThis is what I follow:- Start the bike in Neutral.
- Choke ON.
- Keep the Choke ON till I wear my Jacket, Helmet and Gloves (takes about 1 min).
- Choke OFF.
- Ride at low RPM (not above 4.5K) for atleast 500 meters.
- After 500 meters ride as usual.
I am following this for the last 22K kms and never faced any issue. My bike always start on the first crank.
But one thing.....without choke my bike starts fine but after 30 secs when I start wearing my gears RPM goes down and it shuts off
. This happens everytime.
So I need to start it with Choke ON everyday.
For normal morning starts I dont use choke. Idle RPM cold 900 RPM, hot / warm ROM 1100 RPM.
I run my bike for less than 4.5K for atleast couple of Kms before taking it to high speed.
I am not spamming here, but just thought of to share my 2 cents as my bike shares same engine as FZs and Fazers.
I would also request some of the senior members here who owns FZ and Fazers to keep visiting SZ-X / SZ-R, your views can be very useful for us.
Cheers!

You are right, starting up an FZ/Fazer in the morning needs lot of patience. Even I start it in choke, let it run for about 30 sec, switch off the choke, and I let the bike idle for another 30-60 secs.Originally posted by lsp2310 View PostI own SZ R and I even never faced cold start issue, if I am starting my bike after 3-4 days then I use choke for first 30 seconds, then move it ha half and let it run for another 30 seconds, and then I let the engine to warm-up for another minute or 2, then I start riding. But off late I feel my Fazer's ride has become a little rough. Gear changes are also jerky. Thinking of getting advice from a local mechanic, SVC says everything is fine.

I'm finding this very very surprising ...never have had to use the choke to start except on a couple of times when the bike was idle for more than a couple of weeks ... I just start let it idle for about 10-15 seconds and run normally ... no problems yet **touchwood**Originally posted by jit_j_thomas View PostYou are right, starting up an FZ/Fazer in the morning needs lot of patience. Hi All,
Today I will going to install the HID kit in my FZS. Can anyone suggest me a proper place in the bike where I can put the ballest. I have already checked the hollow portion of the tank, but didnt found any strong holding points there. Those who are using FZ with HID kindly suggest where you put your ballest. Some picture of the same will be helpfull.

i would recommend you to look under the actual petrol tank under the cover. there is a bolt there which can be easily removed..... you can put it there and secure it properly.... i have done the same.....Originally posted by kauria View PostHi All,

It's not that the bike doesn't start without choke. The choke helps in warming up the engine a little quicker.Originally posted by nand15 View PostI'm finding this very very surprising ...never have had to use the choke to start except on a couple of times when the bike was idle for more than a couple of weeks ... Even I have not faced any starting issues in the last 1 year.

The function of the choke is to regulate the air/fuel mixture during engine startup. It produces a higher concentration of fuel (a "richer" fuel/air mixture) when the engine is cold, then gradually increases the concentration of air (making the fuel mixture "leaner") as the engine warms up. This is accomplished by a butterfly valve in the throat of the carburetor, at the very top. When this valve is closed the flow of air is very much reduced and the fuel/air mixture is "rich." When the valve is open (i.e., the butterfly is standing straight up), the flow of air is maximized and the fuel/air mixture is "lean."Originally posted by jit_j_thomas View PostIt's not that the bike doesn't start without choke. It is same for me too, daily use or 2/3 days after no need to use choke. Only after 1 week use choke for 30sec to 1 min and it is all fine.Originally posted by nand15 View PostI'm finding this very very surprising ...never have had to use the choke to start except on a couple of times when the bike was idle for more than a couple of weeks ... I would recommend Bosch ones as they are highly durable and trustworthy, might cost somewhat more than other but it's worth it.Originally posted by jacob View PostGuys!!!
