issue with Cold mornings start
All
I know that the recommended method to start an FZ with a cold engine on a cold morning is to use the choke. I live in bangalore.
Despite using the choke, I had to press the starter repeatedly to finally bring the motor to life. Even then it was very very sluggish on the move. After 5 KMs, it was still sluggish - i.e reluctant to run. The engine stalled while I was riding on a Highway with a truck behind me. I was doing 35-45 all along so as to not stress the engine.
Is this a problem common to Yamahas or something to do with the bike? The Honda I had earlier would run just fine 2 KMs after starting. I let the motor warm up for a minute always.
Your inputs are welcome.

"I'm not sure but are you running with the choke ON after starting it up ?"
Yes. That seems to be the standard practice. How old is your bike? Can this be addressed by increasing the idling speed?
Even when warm, I need to both press the starter and increase the throttle. Whereas in the Honda, I would only press the starter.

what he means is: turn off the choke after a minute or so of operation.... or in other words do not keep the choke turned on for more than 500m to 1km of operations...Originally posted by rapperswil View Post"I'm not sure but are you running with the choke ON after starting it up ?"

This is what I follow:Originally posted by rapperswil View Post"I'm not sure but are you running with the choke ON after starting it up ?"

Even when warm, I need to both press the starter and increase the throttle. Whereas in the Honda, I would only press the starter.- Start the bike in Neutral.
- Choke ON.
- Keep the Choke ON till I wear my Jacket, Helmet and Gloves (takes about 1 min).
- Choke OFF.
- Ride at low RPM (not above 4.5K) for atleast 500 meters.
- After 500 meters ride as usual.
But one thing.....without choke my bike starts fine but after 30 secs when I start wearing my gears RPM goes down and it shuts off
. This happens everytime.
So I need to start it with Choke ON everyday.

i guess this is becoming quite a common nuisance... ask the guys at the svc to tune your bike's carburetor properly assuming that you have taken care of the basic maintainence by the bookLast edited by shv18; 06-24-2011, 03:40 AM.A quote by a toilet, " use me well, keep me clean, i would never tell anybody whatever i have seen.." :P
